(Not sure if this is the right place or not) Last night a friend and I were trying to play a multiplayer game of Stellaris. I am the one who hosts as I have a large majority of the dlc's where my friend has none so far. However, while trying to set up the game the ServerID is not their and instead it says "Waiting For Matchmaking Server." However, mid of 2024 I had been hosted several Multiplayer games with no issue.

When I got on today to see if to see if it had solved it self I found that it is still a problem for me. How do I fix this??

By default this game uses Steam MP services, if you both have the Steam edition. If so, have both players choose the "Cross store MP" option you see when you hit PLAY in your Steam library, which uses a different MP service called Nakama.

Does that work better for you?

When I try Cross-Store Multiplayer it refuses to allow me to log into my Paradox account and states "Unexpected Error"

We have three possible workarounds that may solve it:

Disable IPv6
- Close CK3
- Go to Control Panel > View Network status and tasks > Change adapter settings (left side)
- Find your Hamachi Connection and Disable it
- Find your Internet connection adapter (for me, it was WiFi)
- Right click your internet adapter and select properties
- Scroll down to find "Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6) and uncheck the box
- Select Ok
- Start up CK3 and should work.

Disable all other network adapters
  1. Go to Windows Control panel.
  2. Click on Network & Internet.
  3. Click on View Network Status.
Quick Tip: You can also quickly access these settings by right-clicking the network icon in the taskbar and selecting the Network & Internet settings option.
  4. Click on Change adapter options.
  5. Right-click all network adapters that are not connected to the internet and select the Disable option.

Use a VPN
- Obtain a VPN
- Set the country to the US (why this works is also an enigma ><)
- Start the game
- Sign in and see if it "sticks
"

Good luck!

Disabling Ipv6 hasn't worked and I only have 1 network adapter as I am ethernet cabled into the PC and then am way to broke to afford a VPN to try that.

I had spoken to a member of my house hold regarding network as they control most of it and after going through different ports and router set ups nothing has fixed the problem.

I did go a test a few other Paradox games I have however only Stellaris is affected by this inability to host servers. At this point I cant be bothered trying to fix it as nothing I have looked at has changed anything. Unless having upgraded from Windows 10 to Windows 11 could have caused this I am out of options.

Thanks for your help in this but I'll just play solo and wait until my friends start to get DLC's for the game so we can continue to have our fun. Thanks again.

Okay so I fixed it!!!!! However, the fix is confusing.

I changed the locations of the files from my 2TB NVME SSD (Specifically Western Digital WD_Black SN850X 2TB M.2-2280 PCIE 4.0 X4 NVME SSD) to my 500GB SSD (Specifically Western Digital Blue 500 GB 2.5" SSD) and it worked. So, deciding to test it I changed it back and the multiplayer stopped working. I don't know if it is a game thing, server thing or even steam thing but Stellaris just doesn't allow multiplayer to work on a NVME SSD.

Not sure if their is a fix for the NVME SSD so just going to have to move it to the SSD to play multiplayer.

I cannot see the connection between where the game is installed and being able to use MP at all. Why that happens on this computer is beyond me! I am sure it is not a general problem.
