I cant install HOI please help

I bought HOI yesterday but i cant get it to install, i get a I/O error? any help would be appreciated

ATI Radeon 7500 all in wonder 64mb DDR AGP

intel celeron 1.20ghz

512mb of RAM

60GB hard drive

direct x 8.1

windows XP home editon

What version do you have? SF, PanVision ...
Is it the original game or the patch that will not install?
Are you trying to install to the default directory?

Im not sure which version i have but yes its the game im trying to install and yes im trying to install to the default directory.

What are the names on the logos on the CD?

That means you have the SF version. Otherwise known as the North American version.

I would suggest changeing the DMA setting on your CD-rom drive.

how do I do that?

Control panel - Apearance & Maintenance - System - Device manager - Double click IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers - Doubl click on Primary or secondary depending on what drive your CD rom drive is, to bring up the properties. Drive 0 is the master and Drive 1 is the slave.

I don't know how familliar you are with those terms, but that is how you find the DMA controls, at least in win XP pro, I assume the home edition is the same.

I found the DMA controls but dont see the option where i can turn it off or on, but it does give me the option to use PIO i have no idea what that is maybe you could tell me? sorry about all the trouble

Just switch to it for your CD-rom drive only, try a reinstall and see if it works, if it still does not work, then switch it back.
