Now: I have installed the game (US version with 1.08 patch) normally. I can run the game normally too...but only until I select a game (Grand campaign, Fantasia, etc)..then the game simply crash to desktop . It works in a different computer with similar stats. Why doesn't work here?

Ok. Lets try some standard things first.

1) Set your desktop to the same resolution as you plan to play the game in. You can select between 3 settings with EU2_settings. Pick one (like 800x600) and set your desktop to the same.

2) Set the color depth of the Windows desktop to 16 bit (high color)

3) Disable the intro movie, by renaming the AVI folder to AVI_BACK

Does this happen only with the fantasia scenario or also with the other scenarios?
Have you previously installed EU2?
If yes, did you do a compete unistall as detailed in one of the stickies?

1) Rename the AVI folder to AVI_back
2) Set the color depth to 16BIT
3) Turn off everything in the background like E-mail/ICQ/Messenger, Virus protection and everything in the system tray beside the clock.
4) Update your Windows, update your Video card drivers and audio card drivers. Then repeat steps 1-3.

just got EU2 and try playing the game. won't even start. read throught this thread and rename my avi folder to avi_back as you suggest. Voila ! it works. Just want to know what is the cause for this problem. I don't suppose all players go through this ordeal !!!

Renaming the AVI folder stops the Bink player from running. Depending on your configuration, the Bink player can cause a conflict or not unload itself from memory properly, which causes all kinds of trouble.

The only effect of disabling it is that the intro movies do not play, which in turn gets you into the game faster. So good thing all round.
