I have the known problem of re-installing EUII. I run Windoms 2000 Professional on my Pentium III 930 MHz comp with lots of free discspace.

I have tried the actions suggested by MrT and ugly; I´ve cleaned the key in the registry, killed the setup.ini file and deleted all paradox/eu2 files i could find. I've tried several times. At one try the setup gave me the opportunity to choose install and not just repair and uninstall. But when I chose that nothing happened. It just flipped over to finish in half a sec and then did nothing. Could anyone lease help me? Does anyone else have the same problem?

Did you uninstall from the uninstall utility w/ EU2 or using Win2k's uninstall?

At this point I would suggest trying to use Win2k's uninstall, then delete all lingering folders and make sure the registry key is removed again. Then reinstall from the CD and then patch. Make sure you do this while logged in under your administrator loggin (if you have more than one).

Win2k uninstall doesn't work

I've tried the win2k uninstall several times but EU2 doesn't go away. It sticks like chewing gum under the shoe. It says that EU2 is a 1,42 Mb large program and it is still shown in the list of applications that one can choose to remove. Perhaps I should re-phrase my problem to I can't un-install EU2.

And exactly what happens when you try to do so?

Also, which country version of EU2 do you have? (SF, UBI...)

I have the Scandinavian version. When I run the uninstall the Install shield wizard starts and gives me the question "Do you want to completely remove the a+pplication and all of its components?" I press OK and the screen "maintenance complete" pops up. I press finish and is back to square one.

Could I try to delete the entire folder {CA5DD6E1-B508-4922-815D-479E3228B17A} under C:\Program files\InstallShield Installation Information? I have only deleted the setup.ini there but when i try the setup.exe which lies there it points to EU2. Could this be the file that the setup.exe on the CD picks up?

Okay...the version I have is a little different from yours so if I give you a path name that doesn't appear, let me know and I'll see if I can scare up the correct version.

Let's do this....

1. Start-->My Computer...open your C drive and navigate to "Program Files". If you have a folder there called Paradox Entertainment, delete it. If you get a pop-up window asking you if you really wnat to do that, answer "yes to all".

2. Next, remove the register key if it's still there (as you've already done once...let's just make double sure it's gone).

In theory this should result in you no longer having the option to uninstall any more. If that's the case, empty your temp folders, empty your recycle bin, and defrag your drive. From there you should be able to reinstall completely,

If that isn't the case, see if you can locate where it thinks the "mystery files" are and let me know. If you can't find them, let know that too and we'll go from there.

I should warn you that I only have XP at home so I'm going from memory (they're very similar though). If something isn't quite the same as I suggest and you're confused, let me know and remind me where things became different...that should help jog my memory. :)

Sorry...was typing my reply when you posted this so I missed it.

Yes...definitely delete this folder.

Edit: incidentally...I have to run out for about 10 minutes so it may be a few minutes before I respond to your next post.

1. Had none left.

2. Had none left

3. Done the empty recycle bin, temp and run the defrag of C:. Done the delete of the Install shield installation information and emptied the recyclebin once more.

I cant find the mystery files as the add/remove gives no hint. However, I found some 1.05 patch files under C:\winnt\ which I accidently installed earlier during my feeble attempts to get rid of the EU2. I try to locate as many as possible of them and remove the manually.

By the way: is there a file where the "add/remove programs" program stores which programs there is to remove? There is only a fraction of all installed programs that shows in that list so i suppose that there has to be a list somewhere.

It should be gone already.

Is there still a shortcut on your desktop or in your sart menu tree? If so delete it....

No desctop icon.

Now I look in the registry file HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall to find Europa universalis in that file.

Found it and now EU2 doesn't exist in the add/remove programs program anymore.

And finally the installation runs properly. Thanks for the help!
:)

One final question: why is there not a browsing opportunity while installing. I would prefer to use my D drive for EU2 instead of the C-drive. Or has I just missed something?

Doh....cross typing again. :D

Glad to hear you're running again. There should have been an option early in the original install to select something other than the default path.

Thanks for your time,
now I have downloaded the 1.05 Scandinavia patch. Should I run the fix aswell? I guess not cause the installation of the patch ran nice.
Wunderbaum the curious
Probably not....but if you run into problems then try that the second time. It might have been fixed on the Scandinavian d/l without them telling us...:)

MrT the not-quite-sure. :D
