I HATE RANDOM EVENTS! I tried to kill them completely by commenting out the file in events.txt, but the game wouldnt load. So I deleted them all and left the file empty, but the game wouldnt load. So I deleted them all except the "pirates" one, but the game kept locking up after a year or so (total freeze, not CTD).

HOW DO I KILL THEM!!

Well, sometimes you can be really unlucky, and go from +3 to -3 stability in a couple of years, and that really hurts if you are a large nation, after some war-mongering for example. Sometimes you get lots and lots of great events..so..hmm...I think they are ok, just maybe the stab hit events should be toned down a bit. (I hate these damn nobles demanding all rights every decade..)

Umm, isn't there an option to turn off random events when you start a new game?

Crook, why assume everyone wants to play the way you do? I would love to have optins for random events, historic events, etc.

I dont like the randomness factor. I think I began to really hate events when I got 4 "Nobles Ally with Foriegn Power" in a 2 year time span. A lot of them are really extreme.

They can be especially DEVASTATING for minor powers. Like the "End of Great Feud" where you have to pay 50 ducats, no choice. If you have a 10 ducat annual income, odds are real good you cant pay. So you have to take out a loan. Which leads to bankruptcy. Which leads to inflation. Which leads to more bankruptcy.

I figured out a solution. I took out all the commands and left only one option for every event. They happen, but auto-close instantly because there is only one option with no effect. So every once in a while, I see a message box flash on the screen.

HAHAHA. I showed you, evil events.

I hardly think it's cheating if he takes out the good events too. Like, say, "Foreign Drill Instructor," or the random conquistadores and explorers.

It has the POTENTIAL to make the game more fun, I will concede that. It also has the POTENTIAL to make a game decidedly UNFUN. Like my 4 nobles ally with foriegn power sequence. And the chance for each is equal. Why should I have the same chance of having a free explorer and having my nobles decide to support the Duchy of Athens?

Maybe if events were keyed with DP sliders, I could see your point. But if I am at max Aristocracy, my nobles should shut the hell up. If I am a Serfdom = 0, my peasants should shut the hell up. The clergy should protest high innovative governments more than low innovative governments. Artisans should be happy if I have plutocracy and free trade. Monopoly companies shouldnt form under free trade governments.

I could go on ad-nauseum. But I wont. I hope you get my point.

The point about all events being keyed by DP sliders is well-taken.

So, ryoken69, when are we going to see your rewritten random events files? You've stated the problem; let's see your solution.

Well, considering I just added 50+ more events to my French events, I am kind of busy right now. but your point is well taken. Perhaps we shall see what I cook up tommorow or later this week.

After all, I am the Speedy Gonzalez of event coding.

Crook, again, in YOUR oppinion, random events are the core of the game. I would hardly lose any sleep if I could turn them off, like in EU1. And I usually get more positive than negative random events anyway, so it humours me to see someone say removing random events is called cheating.

It is imo worth keeping, those sudden religious conversions, inflation drops, explorers and conquistadors are SWEET!

I do however think some "negative" events need to be fixed, ie "end of great feud, where you have to pay 50-75 ducats, and if you are a minor, you then have to take an automatic loan that ruins your economy.

Help is near ryoken69

Go get Danneysmurf's Eventeditor. It will help you to remove the randomevents without crashing/not starting your game.

Also, do a search on the matter and you will find a few treads that will help you.

Btw. I dont like randomevents either, and have therefor removed them.

Eu2 Event Tool

And Crook: I dont like either the good or the bad randomevents... ;)

I used to like random events. Then I played a EEP GC as Byzantium and got the worst string of random events ever. Seriously, at one point, for over 100 years, I spent money on nothing but stability and I was still at -3 most of that time. I would get "peasant uprising" which causes +6 for 3 years or something stupid. Then I would get "nobility allies with foreign power". Then some other retarded event that causes a +4 for 5 years.

Really now, some of the EEP random events have screwed up consequences. Raising a new tax causes +4 or +6 revolt risk for three years. WTF? The Peasant Uprising or whatever is the worst, causing random revolts, stab hit, revolt risk for years. Some of them need to be toned down a bit.

Also, if you're going to have such horrible consequences for some of the choices, the rewards should be better. For example, the raise new tax event gives you +1 tax value in a random province. That's not hardly worth the effort it would take to raise the tax in the first place. And the choices in the "end of great feud" event...send a gift for -50 and +1 stab or ignore the opportunity for -1 stab...that's screwed up also...if you "ignore the opportunity", nothing should happen; it's not like the families would say "ooh, the king ignored us, let's start fighting again".
