OK, I read about this a couple of months ago, and now it happened to me ! Just when I FINALLY got my sixth settler into Senegal as Portugal and could start looking forward to some cash flow to help my broke ass, the colony turns into a city, but catches fire somehow!

This really really really really sucks, because I need this cash and this is just a crappy bug, now my question is: how do I fix this ?

And NO, I wasn't at war with anybody, nor was there a non-Portugese unit in the nearest 3000 miles.

Help me Forum-wan Kenobi, you're my only hope.

It's some sort of je-ne-sais-quoi bug but it doesn't really hurt u very bad (don't see why u get so worked up about it) as seeing it's a city alrdeay, u can't go below 700 inhabitants anyway. So build a fort and voilà.

Burning Colony?

Marcus,

Don't panic. I had an example of the bug in India (GC, 1.08). I ignored it since all the economic info I could find showed it had no effect. The burning went away soon. Just to be sure, move any troops you have there out *after* building a fort. Don't want you sore at me in case you get attacked.

As far as I can tell the cause, or at least one of the causes, of the looted for no reason colony is when you start an upgrade, like building a city wall, and then send a settler too. The game seems to get confused as to what is going on.

BTW, this DOES hurt you. The pop growth rate of the city really takes a nose dive, and since the province is marked as looted in the save game file I am guessing you don't get any income from it.

The best way to fix it is to save the game, quit EU, make a copy of the save game, go into the original and search for the name of the city (not always the same as the name of the province), get the location ID #, search on the that id # and you will find a listing of provinces at the start of the game file, change looted = yes to looted = no, now reload.

Thanks for the help people, the burning went away after 1.5 years, but still this is wrong. Anyway, kicking a lot of ass now, so back to the game !! His Most Catholic Majesty Manuel Needs my sage advice!
