I'd rather they left some lands to colonize in Vicky3...

I'd say split wasteland into uncolonized provinces, and then give those a very, very low chance for success with colonization. Probably a good deal below 0% at game start, so that one needs a high PE and probably ideas and advisors to even have a chance to colonize them. This would make it possible to march though it :D

I think we should be able to colour them, that's all. no taxes, no manpower, no stab cost just a pure claim for the future.Like if you own Arkhangelsk you would have province decision there to claim Komi for your nation.

Agree with you

Set a technology threshold to colonize any given province, depending on the terrain and location of the territory. At the threshold, chance should be 50%. The higher you are above the threshold, the better chance you have.

i will admit that i was always bummed i couldnt conquer the whole world. irl even if there werent settlements and people in the most desolate places on earth you can bet you ass that some monarch or president all warm and toasty 17000 miles away claimed it for himself and fought wars to protect that claim. so git rid of that wasteland! just make it worthless and unrealistic to hold.

These areas were never colonized by any civilization during the game's time frame, and, barring a freakishly early industrial revolution that the game can't model, could not have.

Of course, many were still claimed, so there should be some feature to paint them your color. Perhaps an event that grants them to whoever owns a majority of the neighboring non-wasteland provinces, or in some cases, just a specific province(s).

I agree that you should be to at least claim the area. Arabia, Africa, etc look so bad with those bald patches in my Ottoman game...

I like lemonhead's tech suggestion, especially since it would also allow more realistic colonization spread. Now half of the New World's provinces are colonized by 1550, even though mass colonization started in the 1600s/1700s (especially North America). Additionally it would allow mods that extend the timeframe (like EU3's Rising Nations).

Even if it has to be the lowest minimal taxes, population you can have, be nice to have some. Maybe tech related to colonize certain provinces.

I don't agree. Everything north of the Saguenay river in Québec or north of the Hudson bay in Canada should be non colonizable. This is still pretty much wasteland with very low population today. It certainly was even more true in those days.

I really hope they slow down colonization. Usually, in EU3, by 1600 everything there has to be colonized ingame, is colonized. Colonization should be very very slow, expensive and frustrating.

The North Coast and the James Bay were fairly significant in the fur trade, and a fairly important part (for James Bay) of the Hudson Bay Company trade empire.

Ungava and Nunavut, though, are not relevant provinces.

I think powers should be able to "claim" them. you claim them by having an actually province near them and then by claiming it first. But if you lose yoru colonized province next to them the ohter nation to claim them. This works for prestige purposes.

I don't want them to be colonizable, but I wish if you surrounded it on all sides with provinces then it would be filled in with your colour so the borders looked nicer.

That could be a good way to design the wastelands in northern Québec and northern Canada and Alaska.

I think we need to distinguish between non-colonisable, and blank spots on the map.

Colonies in EU3 should be a lot like colonies irl. It's all about painting the map in your colour, profits aren't so important.
