I am deeply humbled by this game, its creators, and the people who post here. Considering myself a historian (with the pieces of paper to prove it), I have seldom seen so much knowlledge displayed on the Net. Congrats, people, on an amazing game and a perfect framework for an even better community:D

Now for the tech problem...
I'm running a Toshiba Celeron 700 Mhz laptop with 64 MB RAM and 'ample' (8 MB?) video. Speed is not normally a problem.
However, on EU the game goes so slowly (as in, pauses every time an action is attempted or map view is shifted), that the game play becomes incredibly tedious. Each action can result in 2-3 second pause (or even longer) while it re-calibrates. Indeed, after downloading IGC and update the entire thing just got even slower, verging on the glacial, actually.\

CAN SOMETHING BE DONE? I am desperate to really get to grips with the game but, although my interst might be historical, my attention does not run in eons.

Thanks!

Difficult to say. Maybe not enough memory is your problem. There was also the story of someone, who had also a problem with speed. But he could solve it by turning off his viruschecker. I am also told that you don't need much video for the game. So I don't think 8 Mb is not enough.

See the sticky thread "running Problems" in this forum.
Make sure that you have nothing running in the background.

64MB is the reccommended minimum. I find that 128 mb is ideal - it makes the game go along a lot faster as the game then runs from memory and not the HDD. The game generates a lot of data!

Memory is pretty cheap at the moment and a lot of games coming out will run better in 128MB - I suggest you get a bit more.

Your video ram of 8MB is ample - EU isnt graphic intesnive - just data intensive.

Yup, I should of read the post more clearly. Slowed it down a good 2/3 or so. Thanx, ugly.

Also, try starting it with the No Music icon, until you can increase your RAM.
