I know it's already been posted, but I just want to re-iterate.

Whenever I click on anything in the single player map screen there is roughly a 60% chance the game crashes on me. I can't even load a game successfully, much less a scenario. To this day, probably 50 hours in to the game, I still have no idea what those scenarios look like.

Please, please get this fixed. It is excruciating.

I don't think this is a common Vista bug.

Have you tried running in administrator or compatibility mode?

Latest video / soundcard drivers?

Or do what I did, install the latest upgrade to Vista that cures all problems: Windows XP!

Please go through the entire CRASH sticky thread above, and let us know if anything helps.

Well I think I have the same problem. The game crashes when I have to pick a single player scenario. If I´m lucky I can play the first scenario without crashing. When first the game has begun there are no problems.

I´m also running Vista 64x and have an ASUS nvidia geforce 8800 GTS graphics card. I have the latest drivers and the 1.1 patch installed.

A friend of mine has the same system and the same problem. Whats wrong?

EDIT: when I don´t play in full screen mode I can play all the scenarios

Its a driver problem inside the nvidia driver in vista. So its a matter of being able to work around it.

btw, please don't post new threads on the problem (unless you get a workaround  ). We know about it and are trying to solve it, and going through new threads take time away from that.

I have an 8800 Ultra from EVGA and when updating my driver, EVGA's was more up to date than nVidia's so I used it. I crash in Vista 64 only when playing in 2560X1600. So when I first insalled/patched the game, I got the option screen, pushed graphics to the max and crashed every way I tried running. I uninstalled and reinstalled but pushed my resolution to 1920x1200 (same aspect ratio) and it works fine so far (knock on wood). There is another Vista supported game that does not support 2560x1600 even though it can be selected in options - but I can't recall what it is. Could that be the issue?

I should also mention that I crash when I tried running from a preset historical point (is that what is meant by scenario?) but I don't generally worry about that. As long as I can load my save game and change my starting countries (something I haven't tried yet) I'll be happy. :)

By the way I get messages from the install program about read-only files but the message box is too small to read the entire message and there are no scroll bars. I just click yes but I'm not sure what I'm clicking yes for.

yes, the high resolution issue is a completely different problem.

installer warning about read-only files is interresting though, is that the regular installer or the patch?

make sure you run the installer with administrator rights if possible to minimize problems.

Okay, 8600GTS, Vista x64 Ultimate SP1; suffering from the fabled bookmark crash.

Read the crash sticky - my drivers are up to date (Forceware 169.25, right?), I've installed the version of DirectX off the Rome CD and I keep getting crashes - randomly, but quickly - on the bookmark screen.

Tried running in XP SP2 mode, the only effect being it crashed even quicker than before.

Help. :(
