I conquered a barbarian country and choose to imprison their nobles. After I got an event that one of mine is imprisoned in a foreign country(even tho he was in my prison). So looking at the character page i saw that there are actually 2 of them and i sold on of them as a slave. Then the other one appeared in Raetia and i cant ransom him.

Steps to reproduce the issue.

Update:
Now there is something wrong with the character page? only shows that stupid idiot when I want to see my characters. Im very disappointed started playing again since release because this update was supposed to be "it" but again I have to stop playing because of damn bugs

Edit: can anyone tell me is there any point in continuing this ironman save or not?

There are two known issues with PoWs:

1. You "inherit" prisoners of annexed countries sitting in prisons of your allies (and the game "wants" you to ransom them out). Workaround: Pay the ransom.

2. If you have taken PoWs of a country yourself you annex then, picking imprisoning elites causes weird behaviour (characters getting mirrored, permanent stability hit). Workaround´: Release any PoWs from battles immediately or at least before annexing (AI does not ransom them out anyway)

---

The situation you describe in your follow up bost should clear if you click on the flag in the right upper corner (which brings back your own character view)

I cant ransom him. Now that he been dead for some time I still have the notification. I guess my Ironman save is broken. I haven't been able to finish a single game since the release.....:(:(

The button doesn't do anything. I have to restart the game to be able to see my characters again.

I thought maybe there is something I can do via console but of course its disabled....

I've so far mostly picked the second option and it doesn't prevent the issue - I often inherit some random character imprisoned in one of my allies for no logical reason.
Since my allies are usually vassals, I tend to integrate them rather than ransoming and things eventually work out - ransom is ofc quicker but I'm annoyed at paying lots of cash for this nonsense. But going forward will pick the first option on conquest, thanks for the tip.

Np.

I've had a few double character cloners show up in my present campaign & always went with option #1 just to be safe. Have had zero issues.
