I've been *trying* to get into EU3 (complete + HTTT), but think I still prefer FTG (I mostly play AGCEEP on the normal map), I know its simpler and in many areas (except events) probably less realistic, but as a *game* it seems more fun and playable and with AGCEEP, I'm still learning all the time about history I didn't know about before, when I play new countries.

Does anyone else feel the same? Is EU3/HTTT worth persisting with? I can't see giving up EU2/FTG completely, though...

Well if you want more historical game you everybody should always choose EU2/FTG, personally I love EU2, i like EU3 but not as much, I don't know why, but as you I learnt much more 'history' from AGCEEP than from my dull history classes :)

Indeed. Mind you, I'm currently pondering playing a FTG-AGCEEP game as Norway, with a view to taking over Denmark, but ruling from Norway, then building a colonial empire (without map trading, which I find gamey) - should be interesting, if I can figure out how to do it successfully! :)

I am disappointed that we have no mymap-agceep till now

I tried that map yesterday (though I'm not sure how recent that version was) and I thought it looked pretty awful, to be frank.

To respond to the OP, I play both games interchangeably and enjoy them for different reasons. I admit to much preferring a 2D map and the relatively simple yet slick interface in For the Glory, but of course it currently has many diplomatic shortcomings which Europa Universalis III seems to address; personal unions, war goals/CB types, a superior dynastic system, etc.

Overall, I suspect that Europa Universalis III is probably the better game, but I have played For the Glory at least every two or three days since I bought it, and I find it a very refreshing and crisp, clear game. In comparison, I think Europa Universalis III is far too overcrowded with information, however useful it may be.

I think in future patches the game needs a complete diplomatic overhaul, and perhaps tying claims to thrones with personal unions and succession wars would be a good idea - though how this can be done, I do not know.

I like both games very much, and do not feel one must be played at the complete expense of the other.

Austen.

I tend to agree with you. Don't have FtG but get more excited in playing its demo rather than EU3. Simply, with EU3 (+MMP2) I feel that every game is always the same game. Getting your cores, some provincial improvements but ... historical/country-specific flavour doesn't fly.

Not that EU3 is a bad game: it's a decent one, but less interesting than its predecessor which was simply revolutionary and unique.

I have pretty much the same experience. I like HttT -- I really do -- but after playing three games, it felt like I was playing the same game over and over.

For some reason I got a bit bored of FTG so I bought HTTT and brought eu3 up to date... guess what?
FTG is better. EU3 really doesn't do it for me anymore. Don't know why.... thats just how it is!

As a die-hard EU2 addict for many years, I was over the moon when I heard that EU3 would be released. Purchased it right away, but I played it only for a few days before giving it up. I really wanted to like it, but like you I can't put my finger on where the issue is. Perhaps I am just set in my ways, and can only take my EU in one flavour any more. While I wish there were improvements made in terms of the AI, I still play FTG more than any other game.

my reasonings are the same as samarov

something big is missing in EU3 , and i think its the sameness of each nation, while playing FTG ( a mod ) a choice of nation to play gives you a big difference in the way you handle that specific nation

I would echo what people are saying playing one country is much the same as another in EU3. EU2 was unique but the essence that made it successful was not build upon or improved. Rather than nailing that essence, EU3 went the generic route. There was so much scope to improve the mechanic's of EU2 and its relationship with history and give it the depth required to survive a 300 year campaign but alas no.

Ftg has given EU2 some new legs but EU definitely deserves a completely fresh build.

magna mundi is being done by a portuguese commy!

What Magna Mundi got is a shitload of wronged propaganda. I still remember the poll paradox created to see if people played more EU3 vanilla, or some other mod. I wont even bother discussing it.

magna mundi is being done by a portuguese commy!

Thus the propaganda. What would be of the communists without it?

I've got mixed feelings on freer, blander dynamism of EU3 versus straightjacket, flavored historicism of EU2/AGCEEP. On the other hand, something like AGCEEP + some of the stuff introduced in EU3 like national ideas, rebels with a cause, advisors and cultural tradition, etc. would be very nice, even though I know that isn't going to happen

That has been the opinion of many players but yes, you are asking for something that wont happen.
