So as Temujin I swore Blood Brotherhood with Jamukha to keep with the historical continuity and it was nice to get a little modifier bonus for being Blood Brothers. Kind of reminded me of the Best Friend system.

So everything was going swimmingly and then one day I received a Diplomatic request from Jamukha asking for an Arrange Betrothal between him and my sister. I declined because I already had an alliance with him since he is my Blood Brother and I'm saving my sister for a better alliance later down the road.

A few months later, while I was out raiding my neighbours, I suddenly get a notification saying my sister was forced into a betrothal with Jamukha. When I went over to my sister to try and break the betrothal the tooltip said I couldn't break a betrothal that was made with a hook. So I put 2 and 2 together and realised Jamukha used his Strong Hook from being Blood Brothers to force me to agree to the betrothal! This is the same crap pulled by people with hooks who want a seat as Steward/Spymaster on my Council in previous playthroughs. But what for the life of me I don't understand is, what's the use of marrying Temujin's sister when you're already Blood Brothers?? Is it the large prestige gain?

I got so angry at Jamukha, I quit the game without saving my progress.

You just threw out of the window a good plot and a great emergent narrative...

Absolutely agree. However, I think the OP has a real complain here. I think OP is not mad that it happened, but that it made no sense to the OP why it happened. The AI already had an alliance, why was it so hell bent on getting the marriage too?

Well, you see OP, CK3 has a really big problem communicating to the player why the AI is doing anything. So the player is left completely to wonder as to why this seemingly illogical action took place. If only there was this thing, let's call it Memory, where we could go see a history of the AI decision-making... But alas.

As @Torredebelem noted, the best way to cope with this issue in CK3 is to use these "opportunities" to create backstory and little narratives. Maybe Jamukha was secretly in love with Temujin's sister, or something. I actually do this player-driven roleplay stuff during my playthroughs, but you will often have to completely rewrite/retcon these little narratives because you are just guessing at why the AI did anything and the AI will do things later on that likely contradict your assumptions.

Honestly, I don’t like how the hooks work. I mean, it is fun to use them sometimes, but at least in some cases (e.g. when someone revelant tries to blackmail me over a secret) I would like to have an opt out case ‘no, I’d rather have the fact I killed my brother for inheritance secret, but not enough to marry my favourite daughter to a Sadistic, Torturer pagan; just expose it’; and the same for AI, tbh.

(I feel the same about Obedience and things it makes vassals / tributaries do without flinching an eyelid.)

Have you heard of second order effects before?

I mean, it is blackmail, and not ‘I got your password to RealmAdministrationBoard.com now!’; I don’t mind it escalating organically (like e.g. starting with Weak Hook, and then the shit I have done because of this hook giving opportunity for a Strong Hook, and then…), but I think it’s cheap that there is no middle ground between ‘I don’t care at all, go tell everyone’, and ‘I will instantly yield to most outlandish demands’ :p

(and I think it would be more interesting if pushing someone just a little too far with demands weren't that secure, and could effect in a very desperate and nasty pushback.)
Edit: also there should be more uses for the Hooks that are to people that are not your Liege / Vassals. Currently, I am almost always rejecting hooks from my vassals [esp. powerful], but I use ‘Offer Hook on yourself’ as a cheaper alternative to Gold / Prestige / Piety when inviting unlanded courtiers of my enemy to Hostile Schemes. Mostly, because it’s not like they ever used Hook on me. I frankly don’t think Hooks being either ‘never give one to them’, or ‘basically free currency’ is WAI.

Exchange mutual strong hooks with a vassal, or rather a ruler in general, only hurts you the player. The vassal having a strong hook on you is always more damaging than you having one on them, and being AI, they can shamelessly use their strong hook on you. The correct way of playing the game is never do ritualized friendship or blood brotherhood with someone who has a slightest chance of becoming a ruler, that's probably everybody.

In one of my attempts playing Genghis he eloped with my wife, making him my rival bloodbrother

BTW: i did 5 starts as Temujin and never ever gotten the 'To rule the world event' ... isn't this supposed to be scripted?

Just an update: I boot up the game from my save file, and this time I let time pass and sure enough - Jamukha Force Betrothed my sister. This time I let it happen, because not going to lie they look kind of cute as a couple. Although I'll probably have to turn against Jamukha in future.
