Ok, I get crashes regularily (no matter what game I play - it isnt just Paradox) and the culprit is usually the exe file.

However only in CK do I get a crash which is caused by I3codex.ax

I assume this is a sound problem, so I updated all my sound drivers and the problem persists. However I can not find an I3codex.ax (or a l3codex.ax, just in case) anywhere on my computer

what is this file? I searched for it on yahoo and only four sites came up (all Ukrainian)

I have backed up the avi file (I do that automatically) so avi isnt a problem. Game speed is normal or above normal.

I have blasted VIA chipsets (which dont help)

Any ideas?

EDIT: erm oops, I think this should be in Technical Support - could some friendly patient Moderator please move it. :eek:o

PM local mod (like Gross) or an admin doing things in tech support for move, probably gets you swifter reaction for that part than waiting. :)

Did you install any "codec packs"? l3codex.ax is part of the (Fraunhover licensed) MP3 coded part of Windows Media Player, but some codec packs overwrite this with a hacked version which is stolen from the professional edition. This WILL cause problems.
Some of these codec packs are distributed with other software.

Windows MP eh. I dont think I installed any codex packs. What should I do, re-install Windows Media player or just uninstall it?

Thanks for the heads up.

If that does not work, You could try a repair install.

It wont go!!

There isnt an uninstall option for Windows Media and it wont let me delete the folder.

I cant update it as it say I have the latest version (10)! The thing just wont die.

So how do you do a repair install?

Insert your windows CD and select repair install.

I have upgraded to SP2 and stuff - wont it just get rid of everything :(

EDIT: well I put the CD in, the options were:

Restore (which restores to a restore point IIRC - so not doing that)
Repair Boot Sectors (so I chose that, dont know what that did)
Cancel

So, looks like I will just have to suffer Windows Media.

EDIT: Thats seems to have done the job (touch wood) Thanks.

- I have played a game as ENG upto 1084 and only two crashes, neither of which was l3codecx.ax so It seems to have worked :)
