I am currently working on a mod that will feature the Russian Civil War and the military interventions against the reds and I wanted to hear some ideas and see if there is some interest.
It starts roughly in March 1917 in the dual power situation between the Soviets and the provisional government. The popularity of the Bolsheviks is steadily rising among the war-weary populace.
The main playable faction will be the Soviets. It might also be interesting to play one of the intervening countries and try to prevent the revolution but that will not be my main focus. This is my first mod so I think I should try to keep the focus as narrow as possible. (It think an alternative history scenario with a successful socialist revolution in Germany in 1918/19 would be fun as well but Germany and Soviet Union combined would be pretty much unstoppable)
My first milestone will be the 1917-1922 period.
Then I want to do the interwar period and link it to the 1933 scenario of Darkest Hour if possible so that you could play from 1917 to 1963. Even a cold war extension might be possible.
I will keep it pretty close the actual history (with tweaks for gameplay) but allow for many decisions to be made. Some decisions will have hefty consequences though. For example, you will be able to play with Trotzky as leader of the Soviet Union instead of Stalin, but his "permanent revolution" doctrine will mean that you will be in a constant war against the capitalist nations. Good luck surviving!
So the focus will be mostly on historical events and giving the player the freedom to decide how he faces them. So not so much new eye candy. Also instead of trying to conquer the world it will be more trying to survive in spite of the many internal and external treats though the player is free to try conquering the world as well.
Here the new Bolschewik fraction when the Kornilov affair happens. Obviously the ministers are WIP. Also needs its own flag.
The policies will be changed. The Democratic - Authoritarian slider is pretty meaningless for a socialist country. (For a communist every socialist country is democratic, for an anti-communist every socialist country is authoritarian)
Instead you gain a Federalism - Centralism slider, which already feels more precise but I am open to other suggestion. At least these terms are a bit more neutral.
Leninist and Stalinist are renamed to Marxist and Marxist-Leninist.
"Stalinist" is an anti-communist term that does not work if you want to roleplay the Soviet Union and it is obviously no existent in 1917.
I am not happy about "Marxist" but I guess it gets the point across of being a light version. Could be for countries like Yugoslavia that were socialist but not in the Comintern and more market socialist oriented.
I still don't know how I should rename "National Socialism".
Nazism is a specific German form of fascism. This does not work at all. Especially note for a 1917 scenario when that stuff was literally not a thing yet. Any alternative ideas?
How should I handle the Kronstadt rebellion? It is a bit annoying not having a Kronstadt province but on the other hand, adding one to the map would mean you would have a tiny, tiny province.
So what are your ideas and suggestions? Would you want to play this mod?
