Now , the footpath with tram tracks is too inflexible to use. You can't build the footpath into some overcrowding area (Such as city center. And there is a flaw that CIM'S in CIM2 will only walk along road side, unlike CIM1 that they will go anywhere like the lawn or little plaza Surrounded by building). The area of tram track is wasted if no tram/trolly bus are running through. In addition, there is lack of footbridge system and let CIM'S need to walk a long distance for Zebra crossing. In order to solve the above problem, I would like to suggest to introduce new type footpath , I will call it "portable footpath".

Nature of "portable footpath":

- portable footpath will be half or 1/4 width of normal footpath and no vehicle will be allowed to run. Only pedestrian can use.
- Similar to bus stop or teleporter, the portable footpath will only attach to the roadside without making any junction or broke.
- The portable footpath allow smaller turning arc and shorter section then normal footpath.
- The portable footpath will use staircase to change level instead of using slope.
- By using Staircase , player can make their own footbridge design with varies shape.
- Staircase of portable footpath can attach to tram stop located on avenue, passanger can use the them to access to the tram stop.

I know this suggestion will be challenging to modify the game engine, but I think it will be a great invention in future game play.

Yes, this would be very useful. Just yesterday I wanted to create a bridge for pedestrians so they can reach the other side of the road to get to a different stop without walking down the road to the next crossing. It didn't work well because it created an intersection with stop lights and a crosswalk. Instead of using the bridge, they use now the new crosswalk and it slows down traffic.

Stairs would be a nice addition but I think it's not necessary. However, that it doesn't create an intersection and only connects to the sidewalk is crucial.

YES!
We need this too! I hate the way-too wide pedestrian roads. They are useful, but they aren't useable for everything!

+1 for the footbridges alone. Would make the life of my cims a lot easier so they don’t have to make a detour to the nearest zebra crossing. I’ve also seen cims miss their connection because they were stuck waiting to cross the street and their bus zipped by before they could cross. Plus, in my city there is one particular intersection that is used as a major transit hub and there are hundreds of cims trying to cross the street at any one time. The sheer amount of cims crossing seems to slow down traffic along with my buses and trolleys. Making them use a footbridge could reduce congestion.

Here's what I've posted in another thread.

Just to make my point clearer about pedestrian passageways, they could be used to build pedestrian subways and bridges, expressway's overpass, to connect any network underground to the above road, to connect transfer lines... and I necessarily forget some!

I've thought again about it and it's really possible to make them easy to build thanks to the new layout system based on nods and vectors. I've made a little sketch explaining how it could deal with slopes simply in being divided in a flat corridor section and a stairs section.

Connexions with road could be automatic, simply making the last section parallel to the sidewalk. If a turn is need, just do a sharp angle, there's no need for curve.

As for people who wouldn't want to use them, it shouldn't be mandatory. However, if we could have those to connect metro platforms to roads, then it would be great to be able to delete teleporters.

Sounds like a great idea! I always thought the "pedestrian roads" were a bit weird. Another thing I'd like to see though is to be able to manually place pedestrian crossings (e.g. near stops) without creating a junction with a pedestrian road to nowhere.

I would also like the see this. The drawings are clear and wonderful.

Currently I have an intersection with four intersecting tram lines and 2 ferry lines. Hundreds of CiMs walk through it every hour. I would love to get them off the road, as they have the lovely habit of surrounding a vehicle and not letting it move forward. They dance around it in a wild circle. I've been experimenting with all kinds of rerouting, but pedestrian overpasses/underpasses would fix things nicely.

+1 for all suggestions here :)

AND: No buildings being build along pedestrian streets (or at least as an option). Even the pedestrian street without the sidewalks build buildings. Bug?

+2 from me (one from the wife too!)

I also tried the Tram stop link from central reservation on an avenue to either side of the road. I hope this comes along. As I've said before, this I would pay for as DLC, I certainly don't expect it as standard, given the work involved. :)

CIM 1 didn't have these footpaths, but they did have alleys (that, unfortunately, didn't go elevated or underground), where no public transport could run. This would be useful for suburban roads and it would surely minimize costs.
