What I want to know, is if in this game I can vary ideologically from what my country did in history? For example, can I, as the USA, back Vietnam's independence and communism?

I wouldn't want too much flexibility. Maybe both sides could go as far left/right as Social Democracy, but I think anything more than that would be unrealistic. Even that's a push.

I think that level of flexibility would be very interesting, but I think you should have the option to play it historically accurate or have that level of flexibility. If you could choose between the two, I think that would be a really good aspect of the game.

In the main campaigns perhaps, but I still think there is little reason to make things too limited in sandbox mode. Its called "sandbox" for a reason after all.

I think ideaology flexibility is must have in game (/to certaing degree) - very nice example is Yugoslavia - it was comunist regime under tito in cold war era, but internal and internationatinal politicks in nationan was ery far away from comunist apochach of that time, it was closest to today china which is comunist only by name and one-party policy.
