I got sol after the inhabitants of the third rock sent an inappropriate unsolicited pic to me. they destroyed themselves and it's a tomb world with roaches on it. i built an arc furnace on mercury. now i can't terraform sol III because of the roaches until i get the correct tech and colonize it, they are presapients. but i can terraform mercury. i need it as a fortress world as my naval cap is really eating my energy at the moment. but if i turn it into an ocean world, will that remove the arc furnace?

Arc Furnaces can only be built on molten worlds. Molten worlds aren't known to be terraforming candidates. So I do not understand the question.

Horizon signal might be only event able to terraform a molten world into a habitable one. No clue what happens to a possible arc furnace on top of that. Even if it stayed - most planetary bodies it could provide resources with would also have been turned habitable. Therefore making it pretty useless but possibly interesting to look at.

Are you running mods? Did you get some weird event that turned mercury into a terraforming candidate?
zero mods, but i am on the beta. i got no weird events, i found the sol coordinates event, and found pre-sapient roaches on an irradiated earth. i built an arc furnace on mercury. and as soon as i got the tech that allows me to terraform barren worlds, i checked sol and mars was not a terraforming candidate, but mercury was. can't terraform earth yet because i need ecological adaptation and a colony there, to make sure the roaches don't get murdered in the process.

i will report the bug later, but i just need to know if the game will destroy my arc furnace if i terraform mercury lol

Actually, I was wrong, I ended up building the Arc Furnace on Mars, not Mercury. Mercury was an option, that's why I got mixed up. Still, that seems a different bug, since mars is not a molten world. And it still leaves my question: if I make Mars an ocean world, do I lose the Arc Furnace?

Just save your game and test it lol. You shouldn't be able to do that so everyone here is going to be guessing. There is nothing that technically checks that but who knows it may get destroyed on load or something the game has a bunch of ways to fix itself that aren't always obvious.
