I am on my 5th or so IGC campaign and couldn't be happier with the game. I was reading the posts about the monarch historical event problem and am worried that I may be missing out on a lot of events since I play for only a couple hours at a time. I am not very familiar with the monarch events and I really don't know what I am missing or just how serious this bug is. So my question is:

Should I try the monarch editing fix before each game, or just forget about it until the patch comes out?

Thanks.

Devout,

Your choice, but I wouldn't bet on a patch for this problem. Johan's answer to requests for fix implied it was too difficult to conquer (maybe for EU2). I decided to put the events in manually for my country, after using EU Leader Editor. Trying to put *all* events in seems too daunting for mere flesh. I just couldn't live without the ToT, or great monarchs like ERI. Maybe you can. . . .

I think by ToT he meant Time of Troubles not Treaty of Tolerance, which actually was the Edict of Tolerance.

Assuming that I start/stop the game frequently. I would need to use the edit the monarch files if I wanted Russia to have the Time of Troubles? Does it matter if I am playing Russia or not?

I think people make too much a deal about the save files/monarch events thingie....

If you're playing Russia, say, and ToT happens--whether it's the limited events of the GC or the severe events of the IGC--they pretty much happen RIGHT AWAY in my experience. That is most of the events are temporary. If you get a monarch with very good or very bad traits (it normally gives you an idea of this when a new monarch comes to the throne on the pop up announcement.) just try to play on for a while longer and the positive or negative events will happen sooner or later. For example once the Russian ToT starts up and all your provinces are in rebel hands, you can go ahead and save because once you load up again, those provinces are still in rebel hands.

Very few monarch events are long term.--especially the serious things. Yes, if you save your game during the reign of an especially good king you might miss out on one of those "8,000 infantry have been placed in your capital" messages. But I wouldn't worry about it too much....

Thanks for the advice. I'm also a little bit concerned about the impact to computer controlled countries. Do you think it has a significant impact on how well the other countries do over the course of a game? I hate to think that the reason England is doing nothing in my current game is because I accidently wiped out all of the benefits Queen Elizabeth would have provided.

Perhaps some of the EU experts could create a short list (top ten?) of the monarchs to look out for? It would be a useful starting point for someone like myself who doesn't really know who are the important and influential monarchs.

Thanks again.

One way around this, if you have the list of cheats: note down from the text file just what events your upcoming monarch should have; as soon as he arrives, save the game, then when you next reload, pause the game, F12, and type them all in as event cheats. It means you get them all at once instead of dotted through the reign, but at least you get them.

This might cause problems with something like ToT for russia, since I gather it's supposed to come in two large waves, whereas doing it this way would give you one enormous one. (60% revolt risk, anybody? :D )

In the leader's file it is written when the event is supposed to come (x months after the monarch came to reign). Simply do the cheat when it's the right time.

That means having to count.... :(
