What important personalities do you think make it into the game?

I believe the Baldwins (the kings, not the actors) and Nuradin along with Saladin are in.

I'd also think that Godfrey de Bouillon will be in, and several other Grand Masters of the knightly orders.

Oh, well, I'm missing some obvious ones here, but...

Hughes de Paynes and Geoffroi de Saint-Omer

and Jacques de Molay...

Most of the folks mentioned above will not be in the game - unless there are to be scenarios - which we have been told there will not be with the original release.

CK has a dynamic dynasty system and anyone who is not in the game in 1066 has a good chance of not showing up at all - at least not in their historical context.

So, while it is fun to dream of how Henry V of England might conquer all of France it won't happen. That is of course unless there happens through dynastic marriages/births/deaths a king named Henry (quite likely) is the fifth Henry to be king of England (somewhat less likely) and has the proper CBs and army and leadership (even less likely) to attack France and complete the conquest (the least likely of all) in the same time frame that Henry V actually fought in France (miniscule lieklihood). The farther from the beginning of the game, the less likely things will be close to history.

So get your editors ready to create your own scenarios if you want any more history than what you start with.:)

But does that apply to the merchant republics and the knight orders as well?

The heretics need to be in, e.g. Joachim of Flora, William of Ockham, Waldo and so on. They lead to a lot of trouble for the popes and the secular rulers. When did the Coumans arrive to cause trouble for the Hungarians?

And also the likes of Peter de Bruys and Arnold of Brescia

Late 12th century? Didn't they cooperate with the Bulgars when they broke away from the Empire?

So as soon as the dice is rolled (the game is started) we only see the historical guys that were actually born? Does in the making (pregnant) count?:D

Do you have anyone particular in mind?

And my guess would be no...

Well not as such. The question just came to my head. But there is a few interesting things that have been put on hold through a women being pregnant at the time. Using the mechanic that the children just pop up makes this one a no-go.;)

The Guiscard!

Well, the Guiscard will be there at least in 1066. Probably one of the best (if you are playing Apulia) or scariest (if not) pieces on the board at the start...

Also his kid brother Roger... Not a bad man to have on your side either :)

Does this mean that unlike EU2, which had certain events occur if vague factors were met, in CK it'll be up to you to make historical acquistions occur?

For example - will there be no "event" to have the Hohenstaufens acquire Naples? Or will it just be an event without the names perhaps? I think I'd prefer the latter.

A game this open ended doesn't need events that may conflict with whats actually going on to try to bind it to what happened historically.

On the other hand, it may ruin the experience for some people if certain things do not occur, such as the development of turkish states in X area, or without being able to attempt to frustrate the Normans, etc etc etc :)

I don't know where I quite stand though i do lean towards events not dealing with claims and acquisitions.

Well as to events it´s not really that hard. In EU2 the only thing that could really throw a spanner in the works was a couple of nasty events. Otherwise it was pretty much a smoth line to supremacy. In EU1 that wasn´t possible so it always was a smooth path all the time. If however more bad things tend to happen in CK the predestined events can be done away with IMO. Of course I´d like to see some random deaths and things like that. In a game that deals much with dynastic functions I would think that a well timed disease would change a few plans regarding to your plans of aquisition.

Well... If you were Willian II you'd be pretty pissed if a bunch of Germans came along ~1190 with an event claiming "I am zorry mein herr, but ziz kingdom iz ourz now" if you still had legitimate heirs left :p

It will, I guess, lead to more games "derailing" from history. I am curious to how much and how it will feel for the player...
