Hi everyone,

I've been trying to import a heightmap of a real-world location into the Cities: Skylines 2 map editor. In the past, I've successfully used heightmap.skydark.pl and terrain.party for Cities: Skylines 1, but I'm running into issues with Cities: Skylines 2.

My main problems are:
  1. Converting the downloaded heightmap to a greyscale image.
  2. Resizing the image to the required 4098x4098 resolution.
I'm not proficient with Photoshop or programming, so I'm looking for a straightforward method or tool to achieve this.

I've also tried using terraining.ateliernonta.com, but it requires a token from a mapbox account, which in turn requires me to provide credit card information. While I understand I won't be charged for this process, I prefer not to share my credit card details unless I'm making a purchase.

Does anyone know of another way to achieve this or can offer guidance on how to convert and resize the heightmaps?

Thanks in advance for any help!

I use Gimp to rescale and change the color and bit rate, you want gray scale 16bit 4096x4096, export it from gimp to that and then you should be able to import inside the editor, if you want an idea of the exact file, copy a default map to the Maps folder where your saved games folder is, then open the map in editor and export a height map, that way you have something to compare with when exporting from Gimp. The key is to export the map, not just "save as".
