So I don't really know anything about modern naval war tactics.
I play games like total war (but also hoi) - generally i like strategy games.
I couldn't tell you the difference between an AS-4 kitchen and a fully fitted kitchen from magnet (when I started, I can now, due to some cheeky LMGTFY post)
And I am really enjoying this game.
There are lots of cool things that I learned already
active radar sounds cool, but largely equals quick death
submarines are slooooow
Norwegians have a good sense of humour (reference the intra-mission briefings)
sono-buoys are not some sort of metro ravers
aircraft carriers are awesome! I need to get one.
What I really mean is that the game succeeds in being pretty accessible - and yet doesn't feel "arcade"
I hope that the fans of the genre feel that it works for them too.
Elements of the game could be better - the graphical production value is not great - but don't get me wrong, the user interface is smooth, and the graphics exist, which may be better than just a 2-d map. But for example missiles don't seem to hit targets, they get near, target explodes, but I don't feel that I truly hit the target.
Also, being able to save mid mission is a strange feature to be missing, it will prevent anyone developiong truly large scale missions in future - hope this can be patched in.
However, at half the price of some games, it seems fairly priced, and I am going to go back to it now, and try not to send my planes so far north this time (oops)
