The video is in English! All of the good people at Paradox do attempt a little Mandarin but there's English subtitles for that part too!

Basically, the video is just all of the different Paradox teams thanking their Chinese consumers for all of their support in 2024. The CK3 director made a specific comment on how excited he is to reveal to China what they're working on right now.

he speaks in english no need to translate

and it means nothing, he could have said that to anyone

you can't conclude anything by looking at this video apart :

- it's soon the new year in China
- Paradox will soon reveal the chapter 4
- most paradox team member have lost their last dignity with their plush

So things that we all already know

CK3 released in 2020 with the eastern edge of the map cut away - a clear hint that the devs planned to eventually expand east

Perhaps the devs will make that dream a reality to celebrate CK3’s 5 year anniversary? I could foresee a Nomad and China DLC being the focus of chapter 4.

There are so many other areas that desperately need improvement, in case this actually is a China expansion. Victoria 3 did the same thing with the India flavor pack and it did not get received well.

the problem with china expansion it that there is already so much actual things to fix before that
Think big. The highest grossing video game of all time is Dungeon Fighter Online. That game has over $22,000,000,000 (twenty-two billion) in revenues. It's also a game that was designed specifically for the Chinese, Korean, and Japanese markets. There's a LOT of money in these markets for video game publishers.

By expanding the map, what Paradox would be doing is expanding the consumer base. Possibly the biggest single expansion of the consumer base in the history of the CK series.

This is all speculation at the moment but if they are trying to bring in big East Asian cash, then this is surely the right move from the perspective of people who balance the books.

Personally, I think adding China now and not at the very tail end of the game's lifespan means that they'll be able to consider the new Eastern part of the map while adding new content and improve it over time instead of just adding at the very end of development, and if it's unsatisfactory then too bad, we're stuck with a lacklustre China.

It's a risky gamble from PDX, but I welcome it.

I did not have "let's turn CK3 into a waifu gacha game" on my bingo card for 2025, not gonna lie.

I don’t wish to insult the Chinese history fans here, because I understand their desire to see it depicted. And I’m perfectly happy if that eventually does happen.

But if they prioritize adding China over actually fixing the numerous broken features in the game, I’m probably done with this game. Devs will show themselves to be more interested in bloat than to make a cohesive quality experience.

This confirms my hunch (based on clues in the end of year dev diary among other sources) that we’ll be getting China and nomads this year - but I’m saddened that we’ll likely have to wait until 2027 to get a proper religion update (on the basis that it’ll likely be merchants/republics next year).

Also want to see laws and expanded succession mechanics as well as implementation of the cultural minorities feature that was tested in the Black Forge Jam - suspect I’m in for a long wait!

So yeah, if we do assume this means china will get in then I'm quite sure that it will merely be a map expansion, without any unique mechanical features for the region (save perhaps a slight alteration of the administrative government to better fit the chinese government setup).

The DLC will then I expect to focus entirely on the nomads and their gameplay as the main thing. Which one could say needs east asia to not have the main nomad draw, which would be mongolia, to be stuck in a corner of the map without varied expansion/conquest routes.

Exactly

People have no idea how massive the Chinese market is. Also look at how Paradox have been absolutely milking DLC for their investors in HOI4, Stellaris and CK3.

I think there are so many areas that I feel more urgently need care in CK3, and I mean urgently. If I were a Paradox Investor? Yeah, throw in that China DLC ASAP. But again, I am a gamer, I dont care about Paradoxes profits, and they dont care about me.

We´ll see what they add though!!

No offense on the devs or anyone involved in this game, I am not in the business of dealing with game & game studio costs and I certainly cannot imagine the difficulties of developing games, I have sympathy and admiration for all the people who get up in the morning and make these games happen. However, having said that, I don't think the money will actually be reinvested into development in such a way as to change much of anything on our end of the deal. We will still be paying for 4 packs a year with a development cycle that will probably reach into the 10th+ year since game release before we can get to CK2 Holy Fury-esque levels of content.

I am not saying the game is bad, I am actually starting to see things turn around for the better with Roads to Power, in terms of content and the ending of the standard PDX game "vanilla empty blandness" that plagued it for so long. Regardless, if the team that exists now gets bogged down into making and updating China (and maybe Indochina) without any significant expansions to it afterward, then the whole game will take quite a while to actually compete itself in any relevant way for the regions that already exist.

That being said, we are engaging with hypotheticals here, so who knows?

I think the Stellaris custodian team has done a really good job. They go back to even dlc exclusive content to update and improve their quality. I have absolutely no qualms with their milking of dlc because it comes with giant improvements, such as the recently announced 4.0.

If the Crusader kings team would just spend one patch to balance econ and military systems I wouldn’t have such a negative reaction. It does not inspire faith when they release dlc with broken content (such as royal courts and legends) and then never touch it again, letting it hanging there like a stunted appendage.
