Hi everyone,

I'm trying to get the Injured Swarm Queen event to fire during the Prethoryn Scourge Crisis and I think I hit a snag.

The trigger conditions say it needs an owned planet, which I understand is an infested world. In my game, the Scourge have infested 4-5 uninhabited planets but on the official "The Scourge of the Void" situation log with all the stats it says that they have infested 0 worlds.

I am confused, does this mean the injured queen won't spawn? I also understand that it has a mtth of 820 months, which means it should in theory spawn soon, though with the "0" infested worlds despite having 4-5 infested planets seems like a bug. I'm trying to get all the achievements and this is one of the last ones I'm getting on this achievement run.

Someone who has gotten this achievement, please tell me if this has happened to you or how you understand this event fires and how it works. Anything will be appreciated, thanks.

It looks to me like right now there's a bug where the Prethoryn will occupy a planet but won't actually purge any of the pops. If I understand the mechanic correctly, this means that they currently can't actually infest any worlds since they have to kill off all the pops first.

The Contingency suffers from this bug as well.

I see, so what does this mean for the Injured Swarm Queen event? Can it still fire despite this?

As for the bug, my guess would be because of the new collective fallen empire as the Last Thought system has an infested world at the center and maybe because an infested world is already present in the galaxy and you can't bombard it, must mean for some reason scourge infested worlds can't be bombarded either. At least that's my educated guess.

It's not fired for me in 4.0, nor have I seen any infested worlds. But I've usually gotten rid of the Prethoryn pretty quickly, so that probably doesn't tell you much.

Okay, I was looking through the wiki, and it's got some useful information about the queens (there are two possible):
There are two queens who can be captured. The first is the R prethoryn queen.png Prethoryn Brood-Queen Relic, which has a 1% chance to be obtained after winning a random space battle against a Star Brood fleet and can only be obtained by one empire. Obtaining either Queen will award the Queening.png Queening achievement.

The second is an incapacitated queen that can appear in a random system inside Prethoryn space, if the Prethoryn Scourge is not defeated within a number of decades. A special project will become available there to every empire to tame the queen, and the first empire that completes it will gain the domesticated queen as a fleet led by an unchangeable level 8 Fleet Consciousness Commander. Roughly every two months, the queen has a 33% chance to add a Warrior to the fleet and a 66% chance to add a Swarmling to the fleet, until the fleet has 30 ships. In addition, roughly 100 years later, if the queen is still alive and the founder species is Psionic Psionic, the queen will reveal that the galaxy the Prethoryn species came from has been extinguished or eclipsed by something and the empire will gain 1000-5000 monthly Physics research.png Physics research.
IIRC, they invade with 9 star-brood fleets, so you should have a 1-0.99^9 = 8.6% chance to get the queen when you're fighting their initial invasion fleets. They only get reinforcements if they have an infested world, and right now it looks like they generally can't get infested worlds. (They either need to purge an inhabited world, or land a colony ship on an uninhabited but habitable planet.)

The injured queen apparently just spawns in a random system in their space, and it doesn't look like it requires infested worlds. I'm not sure if the number of systems they control influences the chance to get this, but I'm guessing not. So for the injured queen, maybe you just have to wait longer.

Purging in general has been pretty screwy in 4.0. I think they've fixed a lot of the bugs, but apparently not all of them.

Fair enough, I'm looking to get the Queening achievement is all since I've never done it before. I've defeated the Prethoryn easily before like you have but never got the achievement related to them. I'll wait a total of 150 years from when the spawned and if I still don't get the injured queen event I'll just rush them and finish them. I'll let you know if the event fires for me so others can follow if they're trying to get the achievement too.

I was reading other forums and apparently the scourge have been one of the buggiest parts of Stellaris with no real fixes, or if it was fixed it was undone with a new patch. Who knows!

I posted too quickly and just added some (hopefully) helpful info in an edit!

And yes, the scourge seem a little janky; for one thing, it can be anywhere from 5 to 150 years after you get the initial "subspace echoes" event before they actually show up... I think Centana has more show-stopping issues, though; I have to use the console about a third of the time to get her questline to progress.

Ah ok, I just read that now. I read that too on the wiki, and I got my infested world idea from the game files for the event triggers. This is what it says and it looks like a hidden flag is activated at some point then fires within 820 months

# Swarm Queen (HIDDEN)
country_event = {
id = crisis.100
hide_window = yes
fire_only_once = yes

trigger = {
has_global_flag = prethoryn_main_invasion
is_country_type = swarm
NOT = { has_country_flag = injured_swarm_queen }
any_system = {
exists = owner
owner = { is_country_type = swarm }
}
}

mean_time_to_happen = {
months = 820
}

immediate = {
set_country_flag = injured_swarm_queen
random_system = {
limit = {
any_system_planet = {
exists = owner
owner = { is_country_type = swarm }
}
}
save_event_target_as = queen_system
create_ambient_object = {
type = "injured_queen_object"
location = solar_system
}
last_created_ambient_object = { save_event_target_as = injured_queen }
create_ambient_object = {
type = "large_debris_object"
}
last_created_ambient_object = {
set_location = {
target = event_target:injured_queen
distance = 5
angle = random
}
set_ambient_object_flag = dead_prethoryn
}
create_ambient_object = {
type = "dead_swarm_small_object"
}
last_created_ambient_object = {
set_location = {
target = event_target:injured_queen
distance = 15
angle = random
}
set_ambient_object_flag = dead_prethoryn
}
create_ambient_object = {
type = "dead_swarm_small_object"
}
last_created_ambient_object = {
set_location = {
target = event_target:injured_queen
distance = 20
angle = random
}
set_ambient_object_flag = dead_prethoryn
}
create_ambient_object = {
type = "dead_swarm_small_object"
}
last_created_ambient_object = {
set_location = {
target = event_target:injured_queen
distance = 25
angle = random
}
set_ambient_object_flag = dead_prethoryn
}
create_ambient_object = {
type = "dead_swarm_large_object"
}
last_created_ambient_object = {
set_location = {
target = event_target:injured_queen
distance = 10
angle = random
}
set_ambient_object_flag = dead_prethoryn
}
create_ambient_object = {
type = "dead_swarm_large_object"
}
last_created_ambient_object = {
set_location = {
target = event_target:injured_queen
distance = 15
angle = random
}
set_ambient_object_flag = dead_prethoryn
}
create_ambient_object = {
type = "dead_swarm_large_object"

last_created_ambient_object = {
set_location = {
target = event_target:injured_queen
distance = 20
angle = random
}
set_ambient_object_flag = dead_prethoryn
}
}
every_country = {
limit = { is_country_type = default }
country_event = { id = crisis.101 }
}
}
}

Then it spawns with the next trigger

# Swarm Queen
country_event = {
id = crisis.101
title = "crisis.101.name"
desc = "crisis.101.desc"
picture = GFX_evt_small_space_battle
show_sound = event_radio_chatter
trackable = yes

is_triggered_only = yes

option = {
name = crisis.101.a
event_target:injured_queen = {
enable_special_project = {
name = "CAPTURE_QUEEN"
location = this
owner = ROOT
}
}
}
}

I should also add that I gave up on them reinforcing their fleets, and even though I appreciate your math, luck is usually not in my favor in Paradox games (though I did win the Galatron) and I'd be pleasantly surprised if I actually did get the Prethoryn Queen relic from their fleets. I'm just gonna wait it out. Wish me luck, friend!

Okay, this is interesting. Looks like it should happen eventually, if you wait long enough. (Likewise, eventually you get lucky and capture the relic, but that's over multiple playthroughs so it's more of a gamble.)

Good hunting!

Thank you very much, you've been helpful! I saw on Reddit someone waited 134 years for the event to fire, and that seemed to be on the longer end of things, hence why I'm opting to wait 150 years. I hope it fires soon! I'm gonna try out the Behemoth Fury Crisis in my next playthrough and try to fight the scourge again there, so we shall see!

Yeah, noticed this as well, the purging process was *increasing* the population every month instead of reducing it.

They managed to infest one world in my save, but the world wasn't bombable or invadeable, so it ruined my game.
