Now, playing as Germany using the latest patch, I had a level 3 steamer factory in Pommerania and I was feeling pretty pleased with myself. However, a "Capitalist build a factroy" message came up, telling me that a steamer shipyard was being built in land-locked Baden.

Naturally, I groaned, and thought this bug had been fixed in the previous patch. However, I then noticed that capitalists were actually building the factory. A thought then struck me; the state borders the large, inland lake known as the Bodensee.

So, my question. I sit really feasible for steamer shipyeards to be built there? And was it intended that ship factories could be built on the shores of largeish inland lakes, despite being far from the open sea?

I think that's WAD. After all the Rhine flows through the Bodensee, so you'd probably be able to actually build ships there. Although the residents would probably a little pissed ;)

Techincally speaking, I was under the impression that all factories do is produce "resources" from other resources. Steamers are treated as a resource, and so are simply added directly to your countries pool like coal and grain. Realisticly, that would not be the case, but game function-wise, that is how the system models it.

Think of it as being the essential parts of steamers being made there, followed by assembly at a port.

Edit: Ok, maybe this is new with Vic:Rev, that shipyards require a coast to actually exist (another post lower indicates steamer factory being built in non-coast area not showing up). If true, It would seem the AI needs a check for when Factories are built by capitalists, that coastal factories check for a coast in the State.

Maybe there could be a solution for this: simply (or maybe not so simply) the AI and the capis and anyone else could build steamer/wooden ship factories only in provinces that have a see connection to some fixed coastal province (like New orelans, Belfast, gothab or whatever). Not sure how to do it right thou...

This isn't new to Revolutions. It has been impossible to build shipyards in landlocked states since as far back as I can remember.
