Hi all !

I need a help.

Yesterday I instaled again CK, and then updated it with 1.05 patch. Then, suddenly, after 2 hours, I could not start the game at all, by cklicking on the icon.

So, I deinstaled the game, and tried to instal it again. I instaled the 1.0 version. But, then, when I tried to update to 1.05, I simply could not. I gotthe message that iKernel.exe could not be instaled, because of the wrong name. I checked the content of 1.05 patch and noticed that iKernel.exe is actually called iKernel.ex_ (with a lower dash _istead of the last e).

But, how could I first instal 1.05 successfully, and then after just 2 hours not to be able to do that again.

Do I have some gremlins in my computer ????

Help !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I deleted CK completelly:

- all the files from Paradox Folder
- all the files from Instal Shield Folder
- all the files fromInstalShieldInstalationInformation folder
- I emptied Temporary files
- I deleted addresses with RegEdit
- I did find-search for all other CK files, and deleted ALL of them

Then, I instaled original CK 1.0 without any problem

When I tried to update to either 1.04 or 1.05 I got the message:

Support file can not be installed

C\ArchivosDePrograma\ArchivosComunes\InstallShield\engine\6\Intel32\iKernel.exe

name of the archive or directory is not correct

I note once again that iKernel in new patches is called: iKernel.ex_ with a lower dash

Why it does not work ? How could I update yesterday, but can not today ???

Now, I deleted engine folder and downloaded iKernel from this site again

I have no problem when upgrading EU2 to 1.09.

But, I always get error message trying to upgrade to CK 1.05.

Problems started last night, when I was NOT logged in the net (so, I did not get any "vyrus")

HELP !!!

iKernel

I finnally realized that the problem is not with the 1.05 path, but with iKernel tool.

I noticed that a lot of other people trying to instal whatever other games have the same problem. My computer is in Spanish, but translated into English the problem is:

"An Installation support file could not be installed. The filename, directory or volume label syntax is incorrect"

I tried several times to delete

Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield

or to delete

Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\Engine

to reinstal iKernel again, and then to try again with installing 1.05 path, but does not help. Installation of 1.05 path always stops at about 20%, and I get the same error message.

The problem appeared yesterday. Before that I was able to instal 1.04 or 1.05 path without problems. Now, 1.04 can not be instaled too.

On the other hand, I have no problems with 1.07 patch of EU2.

First a word about your sig, rules say max 10 lines including blanks, yours is 15. Please fix that up.

Now your problem.
Make sure you have fixed your IKernal back to normal by installing a new copy.
Then change your language settings to the opposite of whatever they are, if Spanish set them to English, if English set them to Spanish.
Then do a complete reinstall, and then apply the patch.

I went to "Edit signiture" but I could not see the option for changing the name. Where should I cklick ?

What "Name" are you talking about?

Two seperate issues.
You sig is too long fix it.

The rest is to do with sorting out your problem with the game.

It is the language settings of your operating system I am talking aboutm, they should not change on their own.

I went to Panel de Control ->
Configuracion regional y de idioma
-> Opciones regionales (language changed to Ingles (Estados Unidos))
-> Opciones avanzadas (language changed to Ingles (Estados Unidos))

After that, I had to restart the computer.

Is that what you were suggesting ?

Then, I installed spanish Crusader Kings, version 1.02, without any problem (I have no problem instaling from CD). This time, the installation wizard was not in Spanish, but it was in English.

Then, I tried to upgrade to 1.05, or to 1.04, or to 1.04-spanish, ... nothing worked. I always got the message:

An installation support file 'C:\Archivos de programa\Archivos comunes\InstallShield\engine\6\Intel32\iKernel.exe'
could not be instaled.

El nombre de archivo, directorio o etiqueta del volumen no es valido.

I have no problem with upgrading EU2 to 1.09.

I have no problem with any other program.

The only problem is with CK patches.

And, the problem started 2 days ago, when my game was blocked in the middle of playing, and I had to do a hard-reset. After reseting the computer, I tried to start the game, but it did not react. Then, I deinstalled it. After installing 1.02, my problems started with upgrading to 1.05 and with iKernel.

And did you then follow the instructions here:

Also have you riun a virus checker and a Adware/Spyware checker?

Oh, yes ! I did reinstal of iKernel each time before dealing with CK.

If it is a virus, than it is a slow-acting one, because problems started when I was NOT connected to the Web.

OK, I will switch back to EU2.

Viruses don't need you to be connected to the Internet. If they once get through your defense, they can do their mailcious jobs at any time they are scheduled on. Not necessarily the time they break through.
