Installation and patching problems

Installation problem:

Operating System: German Windows 98SE

I bought the Hearts of Iron Anthology.

When I start the Installer by simply clicking on the DVD icon the installer starts and offers me the games that it can install (HoI, HoI 2, DD, Armaggeddon).

If I click ANY of those options the installer crashes with this error:

This is no major problem, because I can install all games when I go to their subdirectory on the DVD and run the SETUP.EXE of HoI 2 or DD or Arma from there. Then the installation runs fine.

Patching problem:

After installing all games I looked what version came right from the DVD:
HoI 2 1.00, DD and Arma 1.2

So I downloaded the patch for HoI 2: hoi2_v1.3a.exe
However when I started that file it began to copy it´s contents not into the HoI 2 subdirectory, but into the Armageddon subdirectory. HoI 2 stayed unpatched.

The installer of the patch did not even ask me into which directory it should install the patch so I couldn´t change the path.

Did you install the games into seperate directories/folders ? Sometimes it's better to use custom paths rather than the default ones.

The Armageddon installation contains everything from HOI2 & Doomsday - it only needs the 1.3 beta 2 patch - maybe try that one first ?

As long as there is a way around using the seperate setup.exe files for each game the faulty installer is no major problem.

Did you install the games into seperate directories/folders ? Sometimes it's better to use custom paths rather than the default ones.

I installed all 3 games (HoI 2, DD, Armag.) to different subdirectories of F:\Paradox Entertainment\
because that folder already existed from my installation of HoI Platinum.

The Armageddon installation contains everything from HOI2 & Doomsday - it only needs the 1.3 beta 2 patch - maybe try that one first ?

But how do I get the standard HoI 2 installation patched from version 1.0 to 1.3 when the installer of the HoI 2 patch updated Armageddon?

The only way I currently can think of is to de-install all 3 games, then re-install HoI 2 alone, then update it with it´s 1.3a patch and only then reinstall DD and Armag.

However it´s beyond my understanding why the HoI 2 update should move it´s files to the Armag. subdirectory.

Doomsday is an expansion pack for HOI2. Armageddon is a booster pack for Doomsday.

The games in Anthology are self contained so you basically get all three (HOI2/DD/ARMA) by just installing Armageddon.

I installed all 3 games (HoI 2, DD, Armag.) to different subdirectories of F:\Paradox Entertainment\

Since the basic games are identical it may be that each successive install is overwriting information in the registry, and the patch is pointed to whatever game was installed last.

If you want all three games then you may have to install and patch them one at a time.
