Does anyone know of any sources of information, whether they be websites, books or whatever, concerning any of the countries chiefs of intelligence during and just after the war?

I've not managed to find much information in this field and unfortunately find myself putting 'Blue Shadow' instead of something meaningful when creating minister lists.

I believe my book on the 1916 IRB revolt has the name of the German Intelligence cheif, i'll look tonight.

I don't know if this has been mentioned elsewhere, but in Guns of August pg 424 there is a reference to a British Chief of Intelligence Colonel Macdonogh. I'm sure someone has this book and they can check it out.

If you can't find anything for UK, maybe you could do an homage to John Buchan and name two of the Intelligence chiefs Sir Walter Bullivant and Macgillivray :)

I would have if I hadn't managed to get any but fortunately intelligence chiefs in the British list are plentiful, and consist of:

Sir Mansfield Smith-Cumming - MI6 (Dismal Enigma - apparently, he used to write in green ink, have a wooden leg and ride around on a child's scooter)

Vernon Kell - MI5 (Logistics Specialist)

Henry Oliver - Director of Naval Intelligence (Naval Intelligence Specialist)

Sir William Hall - Director of Naval Intelligence (Naval Intelligence Specialist)

Sir James Alfred Ewing - 'Room 40' (Naval Intelligence Specialist)

Sir George MacDonogh - Director of Military Intelligence (Logistics Specialist)

John Charteris - Haig's Intelligence Chief (Dismal Enigma)

If we could do that, then we'd be able to do an individualised description for every minister. It could be more interesting than something saying 'no one knows how he gets his information' which would usually appear for a Dismal Enigma.
