This is just proof to all those who say the Japanese AI is stupid, or that the game is highly scrpited.

I have played many games as Germnay and played them many different ways. This time I decide to send a large force to N Africa to defed it, possibly secure it if I grab Gibralter and secure Med. Well anyways things roll as they normaly do but I did do something a bit different, instead of invading Russia in 41, I decide to build up massive fortifications through the entire Arrian-Russian border (forts to level 10 from the conquering of Poland 39, and finish in Oct 18 42). That way I would be able to hold a mediocer force there while invading from the south side, through Turkey (the actual name for this places escapes me....oh wait, the Caucusas<<<<I will invade through the Cacusas)

Anyways back to obj #1 holding N Africa. I invade Yugo shortly after the est of Vichny F, to establish a Med port regarldess of Gibraltors nationality and start to build type 9 (IX) Uterseebootens (UBoats) I also build up some Transports. When my transports are complete I drop 3 tank bridgaes with 3 division in Tubruk and push East. I defeated the Brits easily but something unexpected happened. They sea attacked me from behind. I had to divert one bridge backwards to re-secure the beach while simultaniously the massive Brit force in hiding attacks me on all front in the East. I nearly wind up losing those 3 Bs, but get lucky and keep them. I decided without a doubt I was going to take Gibraltor regardless of the cost.

I then began trying to win over N Spain, doesn't work so in early to mid 41, I declare war on them, and in 1 month they are in my control. I release them as a puppet and secure Gibraltor.

Well Ole' Churchill didn't like that to much. Whilst I though I had it made I was wrong. In 2 months, yes only 2 months the brits (who many complain only build garisons) made a massive invasion of Spain to the north and west of Gibraltor with an estimated 15-25 units. My jaw drops to the ground and I quickly redeply units to the Spanish front to resecure the lost territory. After about another month I have re-secured the Iberian Penesula and all is well. I have also cut down drasitacally on the Britsh and French presence in the Med, focusing mainly on the Carrier groups of the Brits.

It is now November of 41. I get a diplomatic deal, I click it and just as my eyes scan across it I decline (per usual I don't usually except that many deals since I'm doing rather well) Unfortuantly this was a deal from the U.S (Yes the bloddy Yanks) affering my at least 56 Oil for around 40 energy. I wept. Then figured that was just a figment of my imagination.

December 41 the most unexcpected of all unexpectation occures. No longer do we have a day of imfamy. Sometime in December the United States declares war on........................The Soviet Union.........<<<<<<<<<<<<< I like to shit a brick I was so surprised. Shortly afterwards they form an alliance with..........................The Japanese (Whos conquest of N China is almost complete) Japan, is an allie of mine (under the table so to speak) so the is also an allied of mine now, and I have done nothing to encourage it.........

A few months past now and in June 42 the Soviet Union declares war on me. I am not worried, as of yet (43) they have not attempted to attack me. It is now December of 42 and the united States has a presence in N China.....<<<<<<< I am bulding V1 rockets out tha wazoo to bombed the UK, and all seems to be going well for the axis.

Let this AAR stand as a testement that the AI in HOI2 does not suck, yes at times it is predictable, but at many times it isn't. The Japanese AI isn't stupid, the UK AI isn't stupid, and the US does occasionally get into the war early (without Human Intervention)

Game difficulty. Very Hard Furious. No other modifications. playing on 1.1

hehehe  . This is funny. Yes, the AI is pretty smart. Yet, they are idotioc at times. I was playing Rumania once, about the first time I ever played. And the Brits invaded Constanta with one division. Constanta... With 1 division.... And they hoped to get a beachhead. Silly, silly, Brits.

Ironically, the only beachhead I ever saw the AI make (a large scale beachhead with more than three divisions, and an actualy Normandy-like area conquered) was in the Great War mod for HoI.

In Vicky once, an interesting coalition of British and French troops landed in my nation and worked together when I played a rogue Abu Dhabi and was conquering Oman. I must say that was the most interesting game I ever lost. Not a real amphibious landing against defenders, but a decent use of force. :)

I saw the Italians landing in Alexandria quite a very times with about 3 divisions once my subs and surface fleet had cleared large parts of the Med from British ships and my fighters in Palermo had effectively grounded the RAF in Malta.

I am starting to think that it will depend on how secure the seas and skies are if the AI is willing to "risk" an amphibious assault, but on the other hand, maybe I was just "lucky" ;)
