If my heir is drinking himself under the table, then as his father and friend, I should be able to try and get him to quit. Success could depend on relationships, traits, choices in events ("Do it for the realm" works better for Stewardship, "Do it for me" works better for friends/family, etc.), and stress levels. If your target continues to get stressed, they're more likely to fall off the wagon.

However, if you have your own coping trait(s), you could help swap one for the other... whether it's good or bad. There could be an event where they confess their struggles, and how their coping method makes it easier. If you're close with them or have the appropriate trait, you could offer to become their Confidante. If you're athletic or strong, you could suggest you go running or wrestling together. Or you could hand them a journal, and suggest they try writing their thoughts down.

We have events where characters have a chance of kicking a coping method, but like far too many things in the game, they're completely random. It ruins the roleplay when you can't at least try to get your son to stop beating himself.

Maybe this could be a scheme, rather than an event? If you’re stressed, a high opinion family member or friend could run a scheme to help overcome a specific coping method or you could run a scheme to help.
Going further, maybe even obese could be attempted to be removed by a scheme.

Edit: Really should’ve been part of friends and foes or a free update with that dlc.
