Is there any way I can mod 1.04a to make the Mongols suffer attrition? (I know the latest beta does this, but I find it also makes the game CTD so often that I prefer to play 1.04a). At the moment my armies are destroyed by the Mongols at the end of the month even after winning a battle simply because of the attrition factor, while they lose no troops at all, and the AI simply can't cope with them.

I tried looking in the game files, but can't find anything that relates to attrition (or even to the Mongols). If anyone knows how to fix this, I'd be really grateful if they could let me know exactly how. Many thanks.

Most likely, it's a part of the exe file, which means that the beta is the only option. Not much to do about that...
 
But the beta might not work with save files from 1.04a. When I tried to use the beta with my save from 1.04a it crashed after 1 game-day.

The other option is editing the save file and removing horse archers from their armies. Or even their entire armies, if you grow really tired of them :) Edit with Notepad (terrible with large files, mine at 1278 was 40 Megs), or even with Word or Open Office Writer :) Look for GOLD and ILKH tags...

The game editor posted somewhere on this forum doesn't work, for it does not support editing horse archers.

Ah, and you can comment ('#' it out) the Mongol invasion events file from events.txt or what is the name of the file with the event files to be loaded.

It occurred to me that the easiest way of dealing with them might be to use a "God" cheat which gives you control of all units, and just disband a few of their units after ten years or so, but apparently the "God" cheat doesn't work. Worth a try, though.
