Not a bad idea... you may want to take it back a lil futhur to when the Shah was overthrown. Make it more difficult for the player. Also could add triggers that the ussr and US would come in at certain times if conditions are met to escalate the war.
Only thing I would have against it like any other one-theatre map is that the map itself would be kinda small.

Your casualty estimates are a bit big.

I've thought about making one for my Cold War battlescenario mod, but I just barely have time to work on the stuff I'm doing now. If you can come up with a good leader list (most important and difficult job for any sceneario I've done) and other general ideas I just might be able to try and create it. My Vietnam scenario just isn't going to well at the moment due to a lack of leaders for several sides so this might be a nice idea to work on for awhile assuming I get that info.
Sorry to interrupt, but in HOI2 terms, the war would be a singe battle with Iraqi troops attacking Abadan from Basrah, with frequent assault and counterattack events...
Maybe it's good idea to make possibility for Kurdistan and Arabestan (Iranian arab-inhabited province of Huzestan, province of Abadan in HoI2) to secede in some definite conditions?
I was thinking about doing the scenario, but Zuckergußgebäck (I had to Copy+Paste that) pointed out part of the problem. It would be waaaaay too easy for Iran to capture Baghdad, and the same for Iraq to capture Teheran (Albeit the first would be easier)

The Iran-Iraq war has plenty of juicy "what ifs"... US involvement... sorry, open and direct US involement on the Iraqi side, Saddam wins - Iraq suddenly flies up to grapple with Saudi for the top oil exporting spot, and the problems that brings... A massive win for Iran, throwing it deep into the Middle East and becoming an even more threatening entity to the Arab states... which again has its own jungle of possibities... and of course, if you can go back to the revolutionary era... you have the what ifs for Iran's future government... it wasn't preordained that Khomeini would take over and if hes not there then the purges wouldn't have happened (or at least not the way they did) and Iran might go into the war with the armed forces it actually had on paper... which would mean as the Shah once said " will be having tea in Baghdad".
Unfortuntatly though... the number of provinces the game offers for the region... well... think of it like a Korean war scenario... in The Operational Art of War the Korean war maps covered a huge number of tiles... while Iran and Iraq have precious few provinces to fight over really...
Still... I'd enjoy this one lol

Well if anyone wants to I'll help them out in creating this scenario, since I would really like to have it in my Cold War mod. Those sites above have great OOB's and actual leaders for Iran (which I thought could be a problem). I'd be willing to make the map and leader files, assunming someone wants to code the OOB for the various nations involved.
