I don't have the game yet as I wait for the english release.

My question is : is it possible to create completely new nations to the game (eg. adding new one) or do can it at least be done by changing one of the existing nations to new one completely and giving it new provinces, capital, leader etc.?

I'm Finnish and as soon as I have the game adn have played it couple of times I will naturally try to create independent Finland if at all possible.

And can I make a scenario where Finland will rebel against Sweden and become an independent nation (like Holland)?

i don´t think you can make finland, but you can make a country like norway to controll all finnish province then you play as finland but your name is norway

If you had really a lot of time on your hands, you could do it.

You would have to edit the name of the nation in the text.csv, as well as change all the graphics by hand for the flags. But making so many unusual changes would increase the chance of corruption of files.

tonhur,

It is possible to use an existing nation and give it the Finnish provinces, even rename it Finland (or Suomi) and adjust the diplomatic relations as you see fit. It does, however, as driedcow says, take a fair amount of time. I created a game with an independent Wales (I used the existing nation of Thüringia, switching it with Brandenburg and creating a larger Prussia). It took most of a full weekend to do that, and then a few times playing after that where I would go back & adjust some things.

P.S. I spent a summer in Finland & loved it enough to make another trip back. Someday I plan to make a third, a fourth ... :)

Yes tonhur you can :) and here's how to:

(I just deleted my previous 2 posts to make this a bit more understandable.)

In the text.csv file there is a list of all nations in the game. There are at least 3 which is never used in the game and could be used to create new countries.
Just replace the country name for the name of your choice i.e. Union of Kalmar (KAL) is replaced by Finland, if you want to play Finland. Then just edit the 1492 file and the Grand Campaign file as described in other posts using the abrevation KAL. You'll end up with a stunning Scanian flag (yellow with a red cross)

KAL (Union of Kalmar) seems to work fine in every aspect in my Finland scenario.
MIN (undefined minor) - I couldn't buy troops or ships but everything else worked.
ITA (Italy) - there is a lot of graphics missing for Italy so you have to copy and rename shields and flags otherwise the game crashes. After that your stuck with the same problem as for MIN - you can't buy troops or ships, but otherwise it seems OK.

Question to Paradox: Are there more countries that the game doesn't use ? Is there any way to fix ITA and MIN so they can be used to create fully functioning countries?

Thanks in advance

Don't use MIN. Its an internal code used for various stuff and will produce misc bugs.

ITA is a country tag for italian names that the italian minors use.

They can't and shouldn't really be used.

Thanks for everyone. At least I now know its possible to create free Finland. I don't mind editing files as I do it almost everywhere I can.

Now I'm stuck with the waiting of the english release :). I really hope it comes out soon (yes I know the dates allready).
I really hope someone makes AAR as a Finland.
'When the Finland ruled the earth' :) (or tried to).

I'm also eagerly waiting the release of 1.06 patch and to hear how well it works.
