While looking over the MWO forums, a user by the name of TheArisen had linked to an article from Gamerant.com that talks about some rumors and leaks from the Microsoft E3 conference for 2019. One of the items on the list was a new MechAssault game. The game's announcement was described as "High chance of happening".

So, what does everyone think? Ready for a new MechAssault game? I wonder if it will be on the PC at all or if it will be an Xbox exclusive? Will it continue on from the last games or will it take a cue from BT and MW5 and restart back in the 3025 era? Either way, I'll be interested to see how this plays out.

I do hope it comes out on PC. I do think I'd like to play it.

The thought of a new MechAssault, new Dino Crisis, and/or RE3 remake potentially being console exclusives makes me so sad.

Yeah, I agree :/

I hope that MechAssault isn't console exclusive, but I can sort of seeing it being that way too. It traditionally has been a console game. I am trying to stay positive and hold out hope we will see a PC release.

Microsoft considers their platform to be Windows 10 (i.e. both Xbox and PC), so if this is real it's virtually certain it'll be PC as well. Even the next Halo game is on PC.

That's very promising. :)

I wonder what time period it is going to take place in? I have a feeling that a lot of existing MechAssault fans probably want a true sequel to 2, even though it would take place in a time period that traditionally isn't very popular in the community as a whole. Then again, I know MechAssault has it's critics as well.

Overall though, I would play it regardless of the setting. I know it is an arcade-y game, however I like those too :).

Although MechAssault's relation to BT lore can be spotty at times, they were still very good action games, and wreaking havoc in a mech is always a good time.

I think it will be more widely accepted too given that we already have a good tactical game in HBS's BattleTech and a very promising looking MechWarrior Mercs game from PGI coming later this year.

If this rumor is true, there will be a wide selection of BT games ranging from tactical to all out arcade action. Not since the early 2000's has there been this much variety in the franchise. Good stuff.

Do you really have to ask? I'm 85/15 sure that it will be some iteration of "Clans".

Although they could surprise us and go full Derp and do something Dark Ageish. . .

Still think it will be Clans though . . .

The TT game is currently leaving the Dark Age. Might well be something in the new era. From what I recall, MA has always been set in whatever the most recent era was.

Huh. That I did not know. If that's the case then it very well could be.

Thank Pack.

The reason I am pondering this is because all the other iterations of the BattleTech franchise in the video/PC gaming space have adopted a reboot approach. HBS's BattleTech and then MechWarrior 5 have decided to go pre-clan, so it wouldn't be a stretch per se for MechAssault to do similar. After all It has been many years since MechAssault 2 was released, would it still be a good idea to go forward with that story line after all this time has passed? If so, then it would be something in the Dark Ages I think. I do believe that MechAssault 2 was at the tail end of the Jihad era if I recall right.

I could see it going Clan era I suppose, possibly Clan Invasion timeline. I suppose it is just one of those things we hopefully will find out during E3 if it is truly announced there.

That's Interesting.

I don't know anything about the new TT story line, then again, I don't know much about the Jihad or Dark Ages either. Most of what I know tends to taper off during the FedCom Civil War era.

The really short answers are really bad things happened in the Jihad and a lot of fave groups were wiped out, The Republic of the Sphere (winners of the Jihad) withdrew to a smaller zone of control in the Dark Ages after an HPG blackout, and coming up an IlClan is to be crowned post DA because some clan group takes Terra (but we don't know who yet).

never considered MechAssault a proper battletech game since it has never been listed on Sarna (that i know of....)

lol! :)

Now, I never considered MechWarrior: Living Legends a BattleTech game since it was an unofficial fan created Crysis mod, however I know there are people who would disagree with me on that one.

besides....MA is an abomination.....
the devs really didnt have a clue about BT.

i mean comon....they used the clan name and the IS name for a single chassis each with own loadout.
and the madcat/timberwofl was listed as a frickking 100 tonner.

as a mecha shooter..ya its ok.
but as battletech...it fails miserably.

well while it aint lore perfect it fits the lore far better then MA ever did.

Uhh...careful about bandying about how devs didn't have clue, what with Mitch having worked on Mech Assault 1/2 after working on MechCommander.

Dislike the game for how it was done, sure, but to say the devs didn't know anything about BT? Nope, not true.
