As good as the game is, the modding tools seem bad, which makes the simple creation of a faction a pain in the butt. Maybe I'm the only one who experiences this, but I'm not able to select a form from the faction property giver. Probably because certain default properties are not set up properly, which I can tell from the error messages, e.g. :

02780 ERROR: Unit Property Cavalry Group invalid! This property needs a screen name to work properly!
02781 ERROR: Equipment item Horse Mount - Item - Tier I is invalid! Linked requisite Very Fast Move Setting Override - Prop is linked to an invalid property!
02782 ERROR: Faction Mount Horse Mount is invalid! Invalid mount linked
02783 ERROR: Faction Property Giver 'Tigran Form - Property Giver' does not have a valid mount assigned

The only way to add a new faction is to copy and edit an existing one from Lords.rpk, which limits me to the existing hero and race combinations. Not to mention the other inconveniences of using it, like figuring out which asset is which.

I don't want to be too harsh here, because I love the game, which makes the clumsy modding system even more unpleasant.

Couldn't you just export a faction created in the game as an .rpk?
Such a function would be wonderful.
Or have I missed something? Is there a workaround for the issue mentioned above?

thanks in advance

The only problem there is that you have not added a screen name. Screen name are mandatory or it will not work. It is not enough to simply have a string in the screen name, it must come from a .po file that you have linked.

The rest relies on items and the error is safe to ignore. The resource editor does not recognize the property, but the game does which means the rest which relies on the item property will work too.

There are a few modders already that are working on new cultures and they're doing it just fine, so.. I suspect that you don't have everything that's required (note: the PDF is.. lacking at best when it comes to making cultures).

Thanks for the reply.
As far as I understand it, it´s not me who hasn´t added screen names, but the devs.
All information needed to define the form (essence and skin) of both lord and faction are supposed to be part of the same category in FormTraits_World.rpk, which is added to content. For the heros essence it works fine. I can choose from several options here. Not so with skin. Although it is predefined in the base files, I cannot change it to something else. The problem seems to be further down in the files referenced by the rpk.
These are screenshot of the default Lords.rpk and when trying to change it.

I'm having a similar issue dealing with equipment.rpk. When I load the vanilla rpk in resource editor there are a ton of broken links, mostly around screen names. If I try to make a copy (from scratch) of the starter feudal sword, it breaks when I link it to base ability- melee strike, or any strike, even though it's referencing a vanilla ability and the associated .rpk is set as a dependency. Not sure what I could be doing wrong...
