Carolus Rex hinted that it might be a good idea to, instead of just sitting here doing nothing, actually try and get some tech support for my problem. Most likely, this issue has been addressed several times before, but as I have no real need to plough through several months worth of posting, I will simply make a new thread.

I bought EU2 the week it was made available here in Sweden, and have so far not played it more than once (on an entirely different computer to make sure it was nothing wrong with the CD itself).

Why? Because my computer refuses to install it. Once the installshield wizard reached about 40%, the CD ceases to be read (I have a very noisy CD, so this is not altogether bad, as the whizzing can drive you crazy at times). Instead, I am rewarded with a small error message saying:

"An installation support file [insert location into which it is not installed]\setup.inx could not be installed. Data error (CRC-error, Cyclic Redundancy Check)"

Whereupon the entire process is terminated. I have, as said above, tested it on several other computers, but not even once has the CD failed to install. I have also tried to find some sort of upgrade or similar for the CD software itself, but this was instantly made increasingly difficult, as Toshiba (whose CD I have) does not acknowledge this particular model on their homepage.

Thus, my question is: what do I do? A moderator in the EU-forum tried to send me a link to something that would fix a known bug with the Pan Vision version, but not only was the link unfortunately broken, I also don't seem to have the Pan Vision version, as that name is not printed anywhere on the cover, nor in the places within the booklet where such things could reasonably be expected to be found.

The version I have, if it is any help, has the logotypes of Paradox, Vision park and Antik Games printed on it. Also, in case anyone asks, I fulfill the system requirements.

Grateful for any help I can get, as they tell me EU2 is much better than EU.

This is probably not your problem, but it fixed mine when I couldn't install some other game: check your national settings in the Control Panel. If it's Swedish then try setting it to English (International), then install the game. After that's done, you can change your national settings back...

p.s. You said you've tried it on another computer and it worked. So it's your computer, and not EU2 that's not working ;)

I tried this (and even got a small icon for my efforts in teh system tray! Hooray for icons! there must be about a bazillion of the little buggers down there now...), but sadly it did not work. The same thing happens again.

Oh, I know the CD or the program itself is not at fault here. My Cd-player is, or some such thing.

EDIT:
Never mind this, I got some very good advice from a moderator over at the EU-forums, and now it seems to work. Those of you who are able to may delete this thread, as it has no real value as such.

A quick look in the self help thread would have cleared this up for you. ;)

I'm having the same problem. But it seems to be a hardware problem. I cannot install from my cd-rom drive but I can install from my DVD-drive.

I hope this will help others with the same problem.

Copy protection has problems with some CD drive/Operating system combinations.
