I might even keep that name, but currently it's just an absurdly funny working title.
Anyway, I intend to make a new mod from scratch using the as yet unreleased WATK 4.0. I've been tinkering with the new engine on the vanilla map (Neapolitan, the fruits of my labour thus far) and have considered something on a new map for quite a while.
Kasperus, that man-mountain of sexual cartography... well, there's a phrase if ever there was one, but I digress... Kasperus has kindly presented us with snippets of his beautiful new map, WATK 4.0, so I have grasped the gauntlet of inspiration with both my tiny, albino hands and have decided on:
1389 - 1789 time line (exact scenario dates TBA)
Comprehensive (and undoubtedly biased) cultural and religious setup
All monarch and leader files re-written from scratch using my own (and friends'
) research
Reworked/tweaked vanilla events, as well as plenty of my own
No doubt plenty of Birger-produced GFX, and I'm talking religious icons to make Michelangelo weep with frustration at his comparatively half-arsed, graffiti-like efforts in St. Peter's and the Sistine Chapel
Some sort of nifty loading screen picture to rival Garbon's
Horrendous, tear-inducing, fist-pounding, equally Garbonian release delays
A fully re-mastered Guns N' Roses soundtrack, legal permission pending
But seriously, I'm going to give it a good go, and anyone who wishes to help in any way is most welcome. I have a feeling that WATK 4.0 will be hands down the best map yet, and I know there are a lot of more 'niché' (time period wise) mods being developed - particularly for various Old World maps - but I wanted to try my hand at something both original and more in the vain of the vanilla game.
Why 1389, then?
Well, it was the year the Kalmar Union began, the Ottoman Empire had established itself as a major power in Eastern Europe with the battle of Kosovo (June 28th), and the second phase of the Hundred Years' War had ended, resulting in relative peace between England and France that would last until 1415.
I chose this date because I wanted something similar to a 1399 start but wasn't sure exactly when. After reading through various years over about twenty years either side of 1399, 1389 struck me as being quite interesting.
Obviously I intend to start with 1389 and work forward - slowly, but surely.
1789 was a bit easier... I wanted to end before or on the French Revolution (you have to draw a line somewhere, right?) and it's a solid 400 years so it seemed sensible.
