Hi.

I did earlier a Japan 1933 AAR where I managed to take out USA, but I was not playing optimally, and I did not puppet states like China and India, which I think is critical for a world conquest to get enough units. Japan in it self also have lots of manpower, and are probably one of few countries where a total world conquest is realistic together with at also Germany/Sovietunion, because my goal to also take and conquer Germany. I am not good at the nuke game, and I want to have a full on conventional war between Japan and Germany in mid 1940 if possible (at earliest). My main enemy countries to take down first will be USA/Canada, and also Soviet Union when they fall. I have played the game a few times just to test some strategies in the early-mid game, and it looks like Germany usually beats Soviet Union in operation Barbarossa, and I think me invading USA probably helps out Germany with less US planes from UK. My hope is that Germany struggles in Barbarossa, but eventually beats Soviet Union in like 1943, this will give me more time to build up my own force to have a two-front war in both USA and against Soviet Union. I will declare war against Soviet Union it will when they start breaking, or if Soviet Union is pushing into Eastern Europe, because I can't let Soviet Union beat Germany, then I would get a worse enemy than Germany.

To come to the point that I can attack USA in Pearl Harbor (late 1941/early 1942), and also have forces on Soviet borders in already late 1941 if Germany has the luckiest war. My goal is also to take all Soviet oil in the Kaukasus, and to do this I will invade Persia and Turkey to really be close to Kaukasus and grab it in front of the Germans. I will also secure Suez Canal, and from Middle-East all the way to Australia/New Zealand, included ofcourse China, British Raj, and all the smaller countries around that I have time to grab. My goal is to have a first slow war with China from January 1937, and win the war in time for Danzig event, when Germany and Allies enters war, and I can then use the war to attack Allies in Asia, doing lots of amphibious landings to both reach islands, but also to make the invasions faster by taking the victory points. I will probably before Soviet Union not invade into Africa (but only hold Suez and a few provinces), to not overstrech too much and have troops ready for war with Soviet Union. Then goal is to conquer USA somewhere at latest 1944, but hopefully like late 1943, I have not yet invaded USA that many times in game, but I am quite confident, and I will try to land a smaller force on East Coast as fast as possible after landing on the West Coast. If I then beat both USA and Soviet Union then I can so take on Germany, but I will try to plan for the war with Germany in mind also when it comes to doing my builds.

Rules I have is mostly to not use auto-upgrade to other units at all, because it is kind of broken that you can upgrade units into more costly units for free, and it is broken (it is still active in game, because I think the AI uses it). Also not loading, except in the start of the game (pre 1937), this just because forgetting sometimes to do an action like change what I am using my industry on (and speed on extremely fast because not so much to do). I already know all the events that give less dissent in the early years, so I will exploit this to my benefit.

I have already played a few years with a quite decent amount of screenshots, I will update this first post more (I will add links etc). But I start the AAR in next post, I just wanted to get it up and going.

Start of the game.

Here is the settings I am using, son only normal difficulty with normal AI aggressiveness at normal. No IC/tech-team take over.

Japan start screen:
0002.png

First I find my airforce, and I decide to disband all the squadrons, because I am not going to use airpower until after USA (1943 at earliest to start building aircraft), and I have not done the mathematics but I think the saved supplies by not having them in storage for 10 + years can be quite good.
0003.png

Disbanding airforce:
0004.png

I then put all my ships to rebase to Hiroshima, so I can assess the ships, and get rid of the ones I don't want anymore, to save supplies.
0005.png

I then abandon Light Infantry doctrine, because I am afraid it will not scale well into late 1940s.
0006.png

The new doctrine I am choosing is Mobility Focus, because of the high GDE really, which should save manpower I think. Even though I am not going to build armor divisions early on (pre-1943), but I will be building some Motorised divisions because of excellent speed, and I will also build a lot of Cavalry because the 1936 Cavalry is quite cheap, and they are a lot faster than Infantry, so it goes quicker to capture land and easier to encircle enemy divisions. My plan is to beef up the Cavalry divisions with Arm-attachments for USA campaign (although the production will still not be done by early 1942), and I will both get more Marines with up to 18 at some point in 1945, and to have at least 24-30 Mountain Infantry in 1943/1944.
0007.png

Here is the first technologies I am researching. Focusing mostly on Industrial technologies, and I will also focus to catch up on old technologies in the start. I will research technologies which I am not even sure if I will be using, but mostly to just catch up in the start where there is not so many 1933/1934 technologies to research. I will generally research broad because most technologies I need in the end, but also research some technologies up to 1-2 years before date if I find in attractive to do.
0008.png

I am disbanding these ships from production. The BB because it has extra armor which makes it to be slower (21 speed instead of 24). The CVE also because it is slow, the SS and H-SS are 0% finished so the I just disband.
0009.png

I am focusing my industry on Supplies.
0010.png

New minister gives me 1 dissent. Focusing on more IC.
0011.png

New minister gives me 1 dissent. Less consumer good need.
0012.png

New minister gives me 1 dissent.. Less supply consumption.
0013.png

One of my first goals is to get 500 money for the Economiv Recovery Policy event.
0014.png

Earthquake event hits giving me 3 dissent, and 3 provinces lose 10 infrastructure.
0016.png

I do the Kirin Province Subjugation event because I can do it.
0017.png

I use my first policy slider change to go more towards Hawk Lobby because it is probably the strongest one, giving good bonuses to production.
0018.png

I put auto-trade to stockpile oil and money.
0019.png

In the The Five Ministers Conference event I choose Expand Southwards!

I have gotten all my ships to Hiroshima, and these are the ones I am going to disband or turn in to transport escortes this is to save supplies in the longterm, and I will build quite many new ships also. The reason I am getting rid of the ships are:

BB: It has extra armor making it slower (21) than my 4 other BBs (24 speed).
BC: These ones having bad range at 5500, so they have not great future in my opinion.
CVE: Too slow.
Old CA/CL/DD: Bad range, easy to replace with better, and I think also speed on the some of them if I remember correctlyl
H-SS and SS: I am not going to use submarines. When it comes to taking out UK transportshipping I am not so interested because I want to keep UK bombing Germany to keep them from getting to strong.
TP: I am going to get new and better transport ships before 1939. I still need some, so I keep 6 and get rid of 3.
0022.png

Before getting rid of all the ships above my troops need 37,07 supplies each day.
0023.png

After getting rid of all the ships by troops only need 29,18 supplies each day, saving almost 8 supplies each day.
0025.png

I get "The Tanggu truce" event, lowering my dissent with 1, and ceding two provinces to East Hebei Autonomous Council,
0024.png

This is the navy I am keeping. Here mostly all ships except the 4 BBs (and TPs), and maybe the DDs are all speed 30 or more. Because of how the speed is so important in naval battles, I am only going to have one fleet with below 30 in speed, which will be my shore bombardment fleet with my 4 BBs with a speed of 24. I have also 2 CVs with speed 30, and 12 CAs and 10 CLs is quite a lot of cruisers, but lacking in destroyers with only 4, but they are quick to build. What I need most is more CV, because CVs are the best, and my plan is to have 6 new CV ready until summer of 1939, and 6-9 more CV for fall of 1941. I will also build quite many destroyers for 1941, but not so any new cruisers (except the 2 in production currently) will be probably be started to be built before 1940.
0026.png

I Strategic Redeploy my troops on the Japanese home island to Nagasaki, so they can be transported to Korea.
0027.png

I start transporting my troops from Japanese home island to Busan.
0028.png

I am doing a diplomatic deal with Italy to get some money, they were like the only country I could find who had any over 100 in money to trade. I still need a bit over 100 money for the Economic Recovery Policy decision.
0029.png

I am shifting my Industry from Supplies to Consumer Goods, to make more money, and there is no one to trade Supplies for Money either. And also I get more dissent reduction each day.
0030.png

I have enough money to do the Economic Recovery Policy decision which gives a massive Peacetime IC modifer on +20%, 2 less dissent, and policy slider changes towards Central Planning and Hawk Lobby. Hawk Lobby I am really happy to get, but also Central Planning because of the exrtra IC I get, that I again can use to make more IC in the start of the game. I will not use so much IC on upgrades anyways because of auto-upgrade thing, and I can't go even close to full free market either because of government type I have. I have read someone says the worst is to be in the middle, but I will see a bit what I decide to do later on, but for now I want to go full Central Planning with decisions.
0031.png

I am moving all my land troops into 1 province to sort them out.
0032.png

As my dissent hits almost 0%, I decide to Prolong Terms of Service to 3 year conscription.
0033.png

+3 dissent from prolonging conscription, and the mobilization slider is moving 1 towards Moblization and I get more manpower avaliable. My reason for doing it is because I wanted the shorter production times (but costs more) from more Mobilization. And I also need more manpower at some point. My strategy is to go quick for Partial Moblization, before I start building any IC.

0034.png

Technology ASW 1918 is finished researching. Next up is research Convoy Navigation, a 1916 technology.
0036.png

52 Japanese divisions and 24 divisons from Manchuria (puppet) + 2 Garrison divisions I sent to Taipei.
0037.png

I re-organize my Japanese divisions into corps of 2 divisions each (with 3 when one extra division). And my puppets Manchuria divisions I am organizing into corps of 3 divisions, because they are probably weaker than mine. The HQs I will not attach to any corps for now.

In total I have 35 INF, 5 MIL, 5 MAR, 5 CAV and 2 HQ division (and 1 GAR). And Manchuria has 22 INF, 1 CAV and 2 GAR divisions.
0038.png

Theoretical Breakthrough, secret technology "Rocket Test and Research Facility" can now be researched.
0039.png

My dissent is at 0,02% so I switch IC from Consumer Goods to Supplies. My goal now is to make lots of Supplies, and trade for money, and then stockpile many thousand money.

Technology "Mechanized Agriculture" is finished researching. Next up I choose to research "Rocket Test and Research Facility" technology, which is a one that takes a lot of time to research, and I have no tech teams that have more than 2/5 of specializations either so it will take time. The "Tokyo Imperial University" tech team is needed for all the computing/encryption/decryption techs, but still they are from year 1937 technologies.
0041.png

I have hit almost max stockpile limit for supplies, so I start trading with USA as they always have lot of money. Getting quite good price, and I am going usually safer on the big transactions, and I go for 100% safe quite often. I think if I get rejected and I try again, I will get a worse deal next time. Or do anyone know?
0042.png

I did some more trade deals, usually trading supplies for money, but I sell some blueprints to countries I don't fell is a threat (so not Allies/Comitern and a few others). 5 blueprints is not worth so much usually, only like 100 money, but it is free I guess and doing it 10+ times adds up.
0043.png

New technology "Convoy Navigation" is finished researching. I continue to research old Naval Doctrine techs, with "Anti-Submarine Patrols" (1916) next.
0044.png

New technology "Mobility Focus Doctrine" is finished researching. I next choose to research "Early Hospital System" (1924). I did not want to research the hospital technology before I was finished with researching new doctrine, because I know there is some kind of bug here (but I think it is when you want to disband doctrine while researching hospital tech).
0045.png

Doing more trade deals when my supply stockpile almost hit its high limit. Traded into more money, now having a quite good amount of 13 000 money.
0046.png

New technology "Process Re-Engineering" is finished researching. I continue to research Naval Doctrine techs, with "Convoy Trains" (1930) next.
0047.png

Doing a few more trade deals with supplies for money. There is not so much money more on the market. I sit now on 15 054 money which is nice.
0048.png

I then go Partial Mobilization. Which gives me a huge +12% dissent, but good thing is that my units get +50 strength to land units, so less to reinforce. And I also get the faster production times which should help out when building IC, I also get more manpower, so I can build up quite a lot of divisions with.

0049.png
0050.png

I then do "Invest in National Research" decision to get down dissent, it is cheaper than "Create Public Work".
0051.png

I then also do "Invest in National Infrastructure" decision get dissent down even more. The TC bonus is probably quite nice to have, but I am also hoping to get infrastructure in some 30% infra provinces, so they will be able to build IC (with 40% infra). Anyways the dissent reduction is most important, and I have to wait 30 days more for Nation Research decision.
0052.png

Dissent is down to 8%, I also shift my IC into Consumer Goods to get down the dissent with 0,09% each day. After partial mobilization I also only have reinforcement need of 5,9 IC instead of the 33,49% before. Since the divisions auto-upgrade is based on the strength of the division, I wanted to get my divisions fully reinforced, but I also did not want to use IC on reinforcements if I could get reinforcements for free from partial mobilization. I will get the rest reinforced after I have cleared my dissent.
0053.png

My policy slider is now fully to Central Planning, with the extra IC I will be able to build more IC which I again can use to build more IC etc. My IC efficacy is also good at 122 IC for 86 base IC, so it will take less time for each new IC produced to pay itself off than lets say 5 years (if IC production needs 5 IC over 1 year, the exact IC production time I am not sure about).
0054.png

New technology "Basic Oil Refining" is finished researching. Next I research "Air Superiority" (1933).
0055.png

New technology "Anti-Submarine Patrols" is finished researching. Next I research "Capital Ships as Raiders" (1930).
0056.png

Result from investments in national infrastructure, unfortunately I don't get +10% infra in any provinces that has lower than 40% infra.
0057.png

On the bright side I get the blueprint for "Rocket Test and Research Facility" which is huge since it is such a huge technology to research. I also gain the blueprint for "Basic Armored Car".
0058.png

I do some more trade deals to get more than 8000 money so I can do both "Invest in National Infrastructure" and "Invest in National Research" decisions once more.
0059.png

0060.png

When my dissent got down to 0, I but into construction IC in every province I could build IC in; Japan main island, an island outside China, and Korea. I am making a serial of 3 in all of them. Plan is to start building more units to be ready for war with Nationalist China when IC is finished in early 1936.
0061.png

Gained blueprints for "Battlefield Destruction Doctrine" and "Early Hospital System" technologies.
0062.png

Again only provinces with over 40% infra got a bonus of +10% extra, so I bit disappointed with that, as I was hoping for more provinces where I can build IC.
0063.png

29th of October 1933 - 16th of November 1934

New technology "Convoy Trains" is finished researching. Next up I research "ASW Hunter-Killers Group" (1918).

0064.png

New technology "Sulpha Group Antibiotics" is finished researching. Next up I research "Improved Submarine" (1933). Not that I am planning to build any submarines, but who knows what I find out. But I don't want to research technologies ahead of time because of penalty.
0065.png

New technology "Early Hospital System" is finished researching. Next up I research "Basic Interwar Field Artillery" (1930). I had not seen this technology yet, but I would have researched it before submarines.
0066.png

New technology "Air Superiority Doctrine" is finished researching. Next up I research "Improved Seaplane" (1932).
0067.png

New technology "Capital Ships as Raiders" is finished researching. Next up I research "Fleet Carrier" (1934). Now all 1933 and pre-1933 technologies should be researched.
0068.png

Decision avaliable:
0069.png

New technology "Basic Interwar Field Artillery" is finished researching. Next up I research "Post-War Tank IV" (1934).
0070.png

New technology "ASW Hunter-Killers Group" is finished researching. Next up I research "Production Standardization" which is a 1935 technology, but I will research it a bit ahead of time because of the IC bonus it givves.
0071.png

New technology "Improved Submarine" is finished researching. Next up I research "Improved Naval Invasion" (1934).
0072.png

New technology "Improved Seaplane" is finished researching. Next up I research "ASW-1934".
0073.png

Economy Screen. Production is going good.
0074.png

New technology "Fleet Carrier" is finished researching. Next up I research "Semi-Modern Heavy Cruiser" (1934).
0075.png

17 IC have finished construction!
0076.png

I had my auto-slider still on Consumer Goods, but fortunately I checked, so I switched it to Supplies, I will use my excess IC to produce supplies that I will trade for money. My plan is to have a lot of money on the book for when I start war with the Allies in 1939, so I can pay of dissent when releasing Nationalist China and India.
0077.png

Start to get some excess IC into Supplies now. And 1 more IC finished construction.
0078.png

New technology "Rocket Test and Research Facility" is finished researching. Next up I research "Close Air Support" (1934).
0079.png

I hit 100 in base IC, so I get one more technology researching spot. I use the extra tech team to research "Air Transport Plane 1934".
0080.png

New technology "ASW 1934" is finished researching. Next up I research "Semi-Modern Light Cruiser" (1935).
0081.png

New technology "Post-War Tank IV" is finished researching. Next up I do a little bit of a tech rush for researching "1936 Cavalry Division", more than 1 year ahead of time. This is because I want to have the "1936 Cavalry Division" researched when IC serials have finished construction in early 1936. For my army that I will attack Nationalist China in 1937 my plan is to only strengthen it with CAV divisions.
0082.png

New technology "Semi-Modern Heavy Cruiser" is finished researching. Next up I research "1935 Static Anti-Air Artillery".
0083.png

Glad I got the AAR started, been thinking about making it for somewhile, but I had a bit of problems to take screenshots in Darkest Hour (but now fixed). I have already played up until 1st of January 1937, so I just need to get the pictures and text posted here. I will post it as fast as possible but I might not be able to do it entirely before next week. I will anyways not play further before I have posted everything here. I just wanted to get a quick start to it all, as at least up until Nationalist China war, not so interesting gameplay you could say.

Love to see new AAR.

Nuke game against AI is easy, they nuke mostly ic big cities, while i use my first one usualy on their reactor and then nuke some huge stack of units. Strat bombing in late game is best done by stacks upon stacks of rockets.
