Hi, it's me again :D.

Id' love to get some tips to pull off a Japan game, i have played much yet but i can tell fropm their terrible financial situation that it isn't going to be easy.

Also, are there any mayor events i should know about? I seem to recall a rather sizeable rebellion happened in Japan during the 1800's somewhere.

I used that ultra-cool guide for japan and got a mighty empire, but beware of expanding way too much. Getting korea got me into a 30+ years war with Rusia(it only ended because I left the campaing before finishing!), and they had gas and strurmtroopers like in 1880 or so! I needed 5:1 odds to win battles until I managed to catch up in military tech! which was like 20 years latter!:eek:o

Also expanding thru SE asia set me into another war at the same time with france. Both countries seemed to be comited to fight the glorious japanesse empire to the death and only france accepted peace after being completely defeated in the battlefield (thou I think they again DOW'ed me latter) the russians were fighting stalingrad like, no matter how many millions they could losse they wouldnt even hear about a peace settlement. France is particulary boring as they like to make landings in mainland japan(that no paradox game seems to be able to produce a warning of that so you can send garrisons to the province before the landing takes place) forcing you to constantly be distracted having to mop up.

However if you like the military aspect of vic (in vic I enjoy more the economic game and preffer short wars only to get the booty and civilize those poor barbaric hordes:D) you'll love that total Asian war that will develop.

I cant confirm but I remember reading somewere that what triggers the alarms in Russia and France is Japan anexing Korea, so I dont recomend it unless you have great millitary tech, a mighty huge army and low mil so you can deal with 100% war weariness.

i believe a successful Japan game is very dependent on your navy. i suggest you dont go for Korea unless you can secure your seas. not only you'll protect you homeland from those Great Powers, but it will also save you hell lot of manpower.

reminds me of this awesome game i had with Japan, controling the pacific coast with my mighty navy until i D-Dayed Caifornia.

I haven't been playing too long but i'm currently in a japan game. I have the aggresion set to max. I annexed korea not long after meiji, but i upped my relations with russia to nearly 200 (concentrated entirely on russia and britain) and after annexation i got no war, they even gaurenteed my independence not long afterwards. So i'd recommend relations with russia as an absolute must.

One of the advantages of japan is the ability to make any uncivilised territory in asia into a state from the pacific to the middle east. When i last played it was in the 1890's and the US just declared war, it'll be close. Any general tips for fighting the US?

For fighting the US a lot depends on your navy. If you can hold your own against them try a landing in Washington D.C. before they can mobilize. Secure that position with a couple of troops in the surrounding provinces and settle in there. Then you can try a landing in California. The mountains there make very good defensive positions. Between those two fronts you should be able to drain their economy.

If they outnumber your army go for a white peace and be ready for the inevitable rematch. Allying with the UK or France are also good options. If you actually want to take parts of the US for your own go for reparations and maybe one of those mountainous provinces on the west coast in the first war. It will take forever to grind the US down this late in the game, however.

It's a bit of a weird game and i have a land connection with the US in the north which i took off the metis confederacy. It's not worth much and they have alot of troops there so i'm going to let them take it. I only want a white peace because i can take the claims that they still own in western canada. Their fleet is a little larger then mine but i have a slight advantage in modern ships. Their army is a fair bit larger but i have yet to mobilize. My army and navy techs are better by about 2. My plan is to drop off some men in the claims and then to go straight for undefended sanfrancisco as DC is pretty heavily garrisoned and they have their whole navy there. It could work as long as they don't attack too many places in my pacific empire.

you could declare a colonial war with US and never sue for peace nor accept it that way, you wont face landings in japanesse mainland.
