My copy of HOI2 (including DD:A) has always run fine. It's run as it should for the past several years, but recently (as in yesterday), it began 'jerking' every time i tried to play. I'm not sure if i've contracted some sort of virus or not, but it runs as slowly as an intoxicated snail on new years day - and that's slow.

Any ideas?
Reinstalling may be a problem as i've already thought of it and the only HOI cd i can find is HOI:1, so there seems to be a bit of a slight inconvenience in that area..

Any help would be kinldy thanked.

Extra: Just to note, it runs just as badly in the main menu, not just in the game. The strange thing is, if i'm in a game and i push the mouse up against the screen (so the map goes around and around), it runs fine.

Even more extra: No other game runs like HOI2 is wanting to run at the moment.

1. Does this happen when starting new game or just when loading a saved game?

2. What has changed on your PC system since the last time HOI2 did work? Has it only been a day or two since you could last play it ok? Perhaps something you recently installed or downloaded has changed your system. Check your display settings.

3. Run a virus scan on your system. If you don't have a scanner there are free ones like AVG. Make sure you do not have a virus.

4. Cut (edit: I meant Copy) and paste your doomsday folder and all sub directories to a flash drive or dvd-R; move it to another PC and see if you can play it. Don't do this if you did not virus scan your PC. If the game works on another PC then you know that the problem is with your PC and not your installation of the game.

5. Try renaming avi folder to aviold.

It happens during the main menu. When i load up the game - right after the intro' , that is.

Yep, only one or two days. I could try uninstalling something i installed a few days ago, and see if that works...

I'll see if that works.

Will inform you of what happens.

I've come to the conclusion that my problem is 'mouse lag'. I am suffering it in some games alot more than others. In, say, Battlefield 2 it will go slower than normal but just as fast when actually in a game. Whereas in games like Hearts Of Iron and Grand Prix World, it will go painfully slower than usual - although in GPW it seems to speed up after a bit.

Any ideas how to fix this?

I've found a way to fix my problem if anybody else ever suffers it.

Problem : The mouse goes exceedingly slowly during playing every game, games like the Battlefield series don't seem to be as effected in-game but others such as Hearts Of Iron or rFactor do suffer at any point when you move your mouse. You come to the conclusion that your problem is known as 'mouse lag' but there are no guides on the internet which tell you how to fix it with the games that YOU play.
t
Solution: To fix these 'mouse lag' problems go into Start > run > (type) msconfig > in the 'general' tab click on the 'selective startup' option. > put a tick in the boxes only with the names 'Load System Services' and 'Load Startup Items' (the latter should be already filled in). Also select 'use orignal BOOT.INI' > restart your computer and everything should run correctly.

If you don't select 'Load System Services', when you turn your computer back on you will be lacking the internet and a task bar. If you accidently do this, click on where the task bar should be (the small line at the bottom of the screen), click properties and select all the ticks in the box. I can't remember which one you were supposed to click but selecting all will bring it back. Then go back into msconfig and correct your error.

With these settings, if you use a program such as Xfire, it may not load up automatically when you start up windows, but i believe you can tick it in another msconfig tab to correct this problem.
