Hi. I was wondering if anyone could help me. A friend and I both have version 1.03c and we can't seem to connect to each other using our IP Address. It says that it cannot find that IP address. We both have DSL and have turned off our firewalls. Any help is greatly appreciated!!!!
Okay, thanks guys. I've looked through the ports thing, and I will admit, I'm a little lost. This is new to me, so I'm not exactly sure what I'm supposed to be looking for. Can anyone help a newbie out a little? Big thanks!!!! I'm dying to play this game against him!!!
Well, it took me a while to figure it out as well, and even though I did get it to work on my router, I still cant play the game wireless, so I may not be the best help, but well... If you answer the following questions it would be easier to help you out.
1. What types of routers do you both use?
2. Are you able to connect to Valkyrienet?
This varies from ISP to ISP (and I'm not too knowledgeable about all the varieties, having just done this for my particular ISP and modem-model), but to give you some starting points:
- Consult the documentation for your modem. Do you need to set up port forwarding (i.e. does the modem provide a local network for all the machines inside the modem)?
- What is the IP address of your machine? You can bring up a command prompt by running "cmd" from Start -> Run, then at the command prompt, enter "ipconfig". You'll need to know this if you need to set up port forwarding.
- Your probably not the first one doing this for your ISP. Do they provide a FAQ? Perhaps a user forum that contains info? Perhaps the modem's manufacturer has a FAQ and/or user forum?
My connection is done through a standard DSL line run by Verizon. My computer is hooked up directly through the line.
From what I know, he is connected through a router, though I don't know what it is first hand. I could call him to find out once he's home from work.
We tried connecting through Valkyrienet but we were unable to do that as well (although we COULD see each other on the screen, we could never actually connect to each other)
Yes, I can get an ipconfig through MS-DOS. I don't know where my own documentation is for my dsl modem, but I'm sure I could contact Verizon if I needed to.
my guess is it is in his router. you need to find out what kind it isand make sure he gets the correct ports forwarded. If his router has a DMZ feature, turning that on to his local IP is the easiest way to make sure he is wide open.
Another thing to try if possible would be for you to try to connect to someone that has played before, and knows that they are setup right. If you can connect to them, you know it is your friend. If not, it is probably both. Once thing is for certain, if he has a router and just disabled his firewall, there is almost positively a problem on his end.Whether or not YOU have one is another issue to look at.
