I have downloaded the July Beta to my computer, unzipped it into the same folder as my EU2 1.07, but I don't think it has actually installed into my game because when I run the game, in the little line in the upper left hand corner of the game menu screen where it says what version is running it still says "EU2 v.1.07", no indication of any update. How can I tell if the Beta update has "taken", and if it hasn't, how do I get it to work? Thanks. Ronb

The answer is yes you will see a notice of it being a beta version. This is displayed where the version number usually is found on the main screen.

Unofficial INSTRUCTIONS: - By Castellon
1) Fresh install of 1.07.
2) Download latest beta patch. (found in the last post in this thread.)
3) Beta files do not have an auto installer. Therfore you must unzip them into the EU2 folder.
4) You should select "overwrite All" option when unziping.
5) Also select "Maintain Directory structure" or "keep directory names" however it is worded on your program that unzips files. If using XPs built in unzipper, then this is automatic.
6) THat's it you are done, enjoy testing the new patch. :)

I'm sorry, but there is still something wrong here. I did a new download of 1.07 as was suggested, then downloaded the 23rd July patch and unzipped it to my EU2 folder. However, it is still just sitting there and has not applied itself to the game. I don't know how to fix this. I am running XP Pro, and when I do a search I find the 23rd July file both in the EU2 folder where it has supposedly been unzipped and sitting also in the Unzip folder where it indicates that all 1,000+ bytes are still sitting. Please help! I'm a better game player than computer person. Thanks. Ron

Highlight the Betapatch that you Dowloaded.
Right-click on it.
Select "Extract All"
When the Dialog box pops open put your EU2 directory into the path box.
Then select okay
When prompted select "overwrite all"

Thanks, but once again something is still wrong. When I highlight the downloaded file I do not get an option to "Extract All", just options to open, send to, etc. Am I highlighting the file in the wrong place on the computer? I am doing it in the search results window. And also, if I ever do come up with "Extract All", what is an HOI file? Like I said, I am really a novice at this computer stuff. Hell, I can remember when we didn't have TV! So you'll have to walk this idiot through, step by step, assuming that I know very little. Thanks again. Ron

Okay, First find what folder you installed EU2 into.
Make a note of that.
Second Download the Betapatch into your MyDocuments folder.
It should have the extention .zip
Now go to your mydocuments folder and find the beta patch you just put there. then right-click on it and you should get the option to "Extract All"

Okay, I'll try this, but what is HOI? I mean, what am I looking for? Do I run a search of all files and folders for "HOI", or something else? Sorry to be so stupid, but as must be evident to all, I am not the brightest bulb on the tree when it comes to computer savvy. Thanks. Ron

The beta file is named July23Beta.zip or some such.

The game files can be found in your EU2 folder/Directory
If you installed to your default directory it should be something like C:/Program Files/Paradox/EU2

Possibly Paradox would be substituted with the publisher of your version, such as Stategy First.

For "HOI" read "EU2" - Castellon is lost :)

Thanks. Figured out the confusion between HOI and EU2. However, still have the original problem, and can't correct it. Here's what I have done. I did a fresh download of the Beta Patch to the My Documents file as suggested. When I right click on it I DO NOT GET AN OPTION TO EXTRACT ALL FILES. I can Open, Print, Copy, Send To, Explore, and a couple of other inapplicable choices but no "Extract All Files". So I chose "Open", that brings up the WinZip wizard and asks me what I want to do. I went with Unzip or Install in my Strategy First\Program files\Eu2 where my game is. The Beta Patch is now sitting there as a subfolder of the main game, but it will not run, or if has patched the main game, it does not give an indicator on the game screen which still says EU2v1.07. I don't know what to do at this point. Any suggestions? I'm getting tired of computer issue crap and want to get back to playing the game, but I do want to activate this patch. Thanks. Ron

Oops!
That is what comes from supporting so many games at the same time.

I have edited the posts above accordingly.

Okay I assume that you must have installed a third party extractor, since XP has one built in.
When you installed the third party software it must have overwritten the command option when right-clicking.
I see that the third party software is winzip.

I have not used that program in a long time.
However, it sounds like you did not change the path correctly or did not select maintain/Keep directory/folder structure.
and overwrite files.

If I may venture an opinion? There shouldn't be a "beta patch" folder per-se in the Programme file. If you look inside the zipped file there are a number of folders which are all named the same as the normal EUII folders. As Castellon says, these should overwrite the original v1.07 folders/files of the same name. it sounds to me as though WinZip is not extracting the files properly. You could try extracting them to a different location such as "My Documents" or a temp folder and then manually copying the unzipped files over into the Programme file. Hope that is of some help & good luck!

That's what I meant about improper path, winzip will add a folder called betajuly23 by default, you must take that part of the path out.

Thanks to all for your patience and the advice, but I still can't get this patch to run. Here is the current status. Contained within my overall EU2 folder is a subfolder named eu2_107b_23rdjul_b. This subfolder contains a number of other subfolders, named, ai, config, db, gfx, and scenarios.
When I right click on any of these folders I get the following options only: Open, explore, browse, search, scan for viruses, sharing send to cut, copy, delete, remove, and properties. I simply cannot find a way to run this program so that it will overwrite the regular files, even though when I unzipped the download with winzip I did check the option to overrite the existing files.
Any further help will be greatly appreciated. Once again, I admit to lack of computer ability, so maybe I'm missing something really basic.
Ron

The problem is not with the files being overwritten properly.
Since they are being unziped into the wrong directory, there are no files to overwrite.

Where are you telling the zip file to unzip to?

Copy and paste the path name you are using to a post here and let me see it please.

If you copy/paste the individual folders/files from the "eu2_107b_23rdjul_b" folder into the main EUII folder you should:
a) notice that they have the same names as existing folders

and

b) be asked if you want to overwrite.

once youve copied these out of the "eu2_107b_23rdjul_b" folder you should find that it all runs ok. Once you've tested it you can delete the "eu2_107b_23rdjul_b" folder and its contents.

Hope that sorts it for you.

Lets not try that yet, as that has complications all it's own.

Okay, I'll try this copy/paste as you suggest but I guess I'll have to wait until I finish (or give up on) the game I've already started. Also, at that time will I have to do a new download of 1.07 or can I just simply delete all the saved games and the autosave and then proceed with the copy/paste?
