It lags a wholeeeee lot. When a new day passes it lags for about 5 seconds. This is getting real boring and tedious. Which patch should I use? This is nothing like HOI or EU. What can I do about the lag? I tried renaming the tiles.bmp but that did not help. My comp specs are 800 megahurz and 400 memory. I know my comp isn't anything special but HOI and EU doesn't lag like Victoria does and I badly want to play this game without the lag. I waited since the day Vicky came out to play it and now I got it but the lag. Please help me!

Disable the music, turn the resoltion down to the smallest possibly 800x600

Yeah, turn off all the other crap running in the background, turn off music+sound and delete tiles.bmp in the game, and it might help. Still, your system isn't really top-notch anymore :/

Is it running smoothly outside of Vicky? There's tons of stuff you can do to make your system run better in itself.

I have been able to play SP with my ancient 600 MHz / 192 RAM, so you should be able to play with yours too. I didn't even remove SFX, music or tiles.bmp...

Yea, it runs HOI and EU 1 and 2 fine. I'll delete the tiles.bmp and I will play it on 800x600 resolution and see how it does. Yea, I know my comp is an antique.

Well, that didn't help. It still doesn't run very smoothly. Everytime a new day passes it lags for about 2 or 3 seconds. It does this all the time. Does everybody's do this or just mine?

The reason it does it is that there is a set number of calculations that must be performed each day. If you can't perfom them in time the next day is delayed.

Stop running programs in the background, this includes stuff in the system tray on the right of the start bar.

Virus checkers, MSN, etc. all take up processor time that could be used for vicky.

Play the game at a slower speed eg 'Below Normal' the days take longer and there is more time for the calculations to complete. The game won't run any faster but the lag will be shorter.

What speed are you running at?

Just yours. :(

Good luck fixing it.

Your computer is fine. I play on a 400 mhz 128 MB RAM and 32 video card on my oldest computer and runs fairly good. Run HoI or EU see if its an issue with your comp like spyware etc. The run on slowest speed and 800x 600., Delete Victoria totally of you comp then reinstall if you can't find an answer. If you have a computer like yours there is no reason that it should run slow.

You need to optimize your comp. I gave my Girlfriend an old Sony laptop that has a 750 PIII with 392 Mgs of ram. It lagged like yours when i first installed Vicky on it. I defragged+scandisk. Optimized the programs running in the back round as well as the windows boot hiearchy. It ran smooth after that. Not as fast as it does on my gaming machines but it doesnt stall during daily computations even on the faster settings.

Set the graphic style of windows to the minimum to save some ram to. No drop shadows or fading icons. Flashy crap like that is Memory intensive.

You should be able to play the game with those specs. Worst case sceanrio is get some more ram. A 512k stick should cost you about 60-70 bucks since its older tech. 256k stick would be more then half that cost. You would notice a large improvement in performance.

Hope you get it all worked out.

Note that Victoria will not run at 800x600, only 1024x768 or 1280x1024. I run at 1024x768 on a laptop with 500MHz and 576MB RAM and it's pretty smooth at low speeds even without removing tiles.bmp (probably because of the large amount of RAM). The autosaves are very slow because of the laptop hard drive though.

Yes I would like to know how you set the game to run in 800x600?

You cant. I thought i read Johan stating that somewhere, but i could be wrong.
Umm, That's kind of why I am asking him how he managed it. ;)

Ahh, i see said the blind man as he spoke with his deaf friend.

A sarcasm emoticon would have been in order.

You should discipline yourself in some manner as a form a repentence, maybe fire up a GC with Serbia. Yeah that would definatley make things right! ;)

I used the proper smillie. ;)

It is the one I use when I point out masters of the obvious. :D

LOL! Masters of the obvious! Cheeky and witty description for a common behaviourism found on all kinds of internet forums. :)
