Does anyone have any information on the Khmer Empire in what is now Cambodia ? I have tried searching for it but always get stuff about the tragic modern history which is not what I'm looking for.
 
I can tell you what I found out about the early khmer empire.
khmers oldest land Funan called that by the people of China.
the people of Funan spoke a dialect wery close to khmers.About 600 a.c. they was invided by a vasall from north chen-la and this people was rearly khmer.ca 800 a.c. founded the king Jayavarman II a stong kingdom and by now they cald the land cambodja ,and that King Jayavarman II founded also the city angkor,who become a stronghold for the khmer.

I think that the downfall of the Khmer started with Annamese expansion into southern Vietnam, forcing the Chams to flee into the neighbouring Khmer, in effect invading it. Beforehand, the Thai people were slowly moving south, and the Khmer vassalised their kingdom.
At the time of the Cham invasion, the Thais rose up, taking Angkor Thom, and speeling the end of the Khmer.
 
I do not know much about the khmers history.
I know they build large pools for irrigation and they had temples placed in the jungle to represent the stars. Or that is what some wierd french guy thought, but he also thought that the Aztecs knew the diameter of earth and built the tmples in tenochlilitan to represent it...
