The "Coronations" event pack has only been teased and not much about it has been revealed aside from the "grand coronation" activity being an opportunity to impress other nobles but also being impactful over the character's entire realm stability (that is what the Steam page description hints at). I would like to make a major suggestion to that event pack before the devs even announce a release date and start talking about it in their dev diaries, so there may be time for them to implement this idea.
Previous event packs have introduced additional interesting ways to complement our strategic gameplay, and there is a couple of things I am looking forward to with this event pack: the acquisition of a Kingdom title claim over a Kingdom-tier realm not yet entirely conquered and, along with it, the ability to create a not-yet-created/previously-destroyed title.
To justify my suggestion... Medieval History (focusing on Europe here) is full of examples of rulers that were cerimonially crowned kings of realms beyond their actual control: Holy Roman Emperors (e.g. Frederick Barbarossa) crowned kings of Italy but never truly having a grasp over anything beyond the Alps, usually having to (unsuccesfully) fight their way into the Italian peninsula; Anglo-Saxon petty kings being crowned 'king of the Anglo-Saxons" (Alfred the Great) or "king of the English" (Æthelstan) before actually ruling over the entirety of Anglo-Saxon/English lands (and, therefore, still having to fight for territory against celtic and norse rulers); English kings having themselves crowned as kings of France during the Hundred Years' War (Henry VI) while still only controlling a portion of the realm; or worse yet, European rulers who were crowned as kings of Jerusalem but never even set foot in the land, only ever claiming it.
Gameplay-wise, though, we should have something that is powerful but not broken. Grand coronations, as an activity, should have an option to attempt to claim and possibly even form a Kingdom-tier title in the region you are and/or your dynasty has previously held, therefore taking an oath (just like the Steam page suggests) to conquer all that land while you rule, with a high cost to your heirs and/or dynasty in case one fails. If partially successful, the ruler would get a claim over the desired Kingdom and then would have to fight wars until fully holding the territory necessary to create the title, and then creating it (a higher prestige cost with each Claim CB); but if highly successful, the ruler would perhaps be able to reduce the needed amount of de jure controlled counties necessary to creating the title and end up founding the desired kingdom, then waging war over the de jure lands of the acquired kingdom (a lower prestige cost with each De Jure CB); but success would not be guaranteed... this should be a high stakes attempt, with a possibility to have your mission fail, and failing either the coronation attempt itself or the future conquest of the desired kingdom should both come at high costs (e.g. you come out of your attempt humiliated and this leads to raising the needed controlled de jure counties amount to create the desired title for yourself or for your dynasty for a certain amount of time; or e.g. you insult a neighboring ruler with your failed efforts and this leads to immediate war with them).
I really hope this reach the devs, I believe it could make a fine addition in the Coronation events pack, making it a lot more interesting, appealing, and promising.
Please, share your thoughts on this suggestion and ideas for making this a viable mechanic if you think there is potential in it!
