A kingdom for a stage, princes to act
And monarchs to behold the swelling scene!"

War:
- You have to accept peace if you are over -90% WS since 1 year. War should last more than 2 yrs to apply this rule. For war under 2 yrs, peace need to be mutually agreed.
- No burning of tradeposts of level 3 or higher
- COTs count as 2.
- Beginning to 1650:
- - 3 provs max per war (you can't lose more than 3 provinces).
-
- 1650 to 1700 :
- - 4 provs max per war
-
- 1700 to 1750 :
- - 5 provs max per war

- Players are not allowed to annex or take land from another players vassals until they've been at war with those vassals for at least a year
- Using pirates to stop a load or deny a retreat is forbidden
- EVERY attacking nation (this includes the ones joining the original DoWer through alliance) MUST cancel MA through attacked countries.
- If you want to dow a vassal nation always dow the overlord.
(If the Vassal is a player himself, this rule doesn't apply)
(If the Vassal declares war, a human defender need not declare war upon the overlord)

Ozzeh said:
Lets say the amount of provinces we can take is 5. This means, that ONE COUNTRY can LOSE a maximum of 5 provinces in ONE WAR.

Definitions:

ONE COUNTRY = What is says. One country. Not an alliance, formal nor informal. Just ONE COUNTRY, ONE PLAYER.

ONE WAR = A period of time in which the LOSING side is in war. This doesn't have to mean DoWs at the same time or by the same alliance, it means wars that either happen simultaneously or short after eachother. (WE > 2% or Dow < 6 months of last peace).

EXAMPLE 1:

Russia, Sweden and Austria are in one alliance.
Ottoman Empire and Prussia are in one alliance.
France, England and the Netherlands are in one alliance.

France DoWs Russia. On both sides, the allies follow.
We thus have: France/England/NL vs Russia/Sweden/Austria.

War proceeds for a year. Then OE DoWs Russia.
We thus have:
France/England/NL vs Russia/Sweden/Austria
OE/Prussia vs Russia/Sweden/Austria

Now, OE and Prussia secure a quick victory and take 2 provinces from Russia. None from Sweden and Austria.

War rages on and France/England/NL win also. They demand 2 CoTs from Russia and one province from Sweden. THIS IS ILLEGAL. Since 2 CoTs from Russia means 4 points, OE/Prussia took 2 so it totals 6. They could only take 5. So, they settle for 1 CoT and one province from Russia. They can however still take 1 province from Sweden. Hell, they could even take 5! This is because each country can lose a maximum of 5 provinces.

EXAMPLE 2:

France DoWs Austria. After a long 6 years war, France wins and takes 3 provinces from Austria. Austria's WE has gotten to 10 in this war. When it has dropped to 7, OE DoWs Austria. OE wins, and demands 3 provinces from Austria. THIS IS ILLEGAL. Because WE in Austria had not yet dropped to 0, OE's demands pile up on France's and therefore he can only take 2 provinces.

Alliances:
- 2,5 points per alliance
- Each alliance can hold 2,5 points
- France, England, Russia, Spain, Austria and Ottomans are worth 1 points. The rest, 0,5 points.
- When the need arise, we can up- or downgrade countries. For example, a powerful Venice could be 1 p, a week France 0,5 p. And so on.
- AI countries are 0 points
- Don´t forget that this is a roleplaying game!

Vassals :

Beginning to 1700 :
- Need to stay vassal for 20 yrs.

1700 to 1790 :
- Need to stay vassal for 15 yrs.

1790-1820 :
- Need to stay vassal for 5 yrs.

And don´t forget that this is a campain based on roleplaying!

Various:
- Map trading with AI is stricly forbidden
- NAP is based on trust only. (i.e. you can break it and face the diplomatic consequences (should be only diplomatic consequence on the actual monarch). Max is 15 yrs (can’t be renewed, unless another war between the country).
- Map trading between humans is forbidden until 1625
- Fake wars with sacking of a captial to get around the map trading rule will be harshly dealt with
- Declaring war with the purpose of raising another countries stab is stricly forbidden
- If you force enemy COTs open via war, Cots must stay open for 20 years
- No taking of Persian, Han, Cantonese or Japanese culture provinces untill 1650 (exeption: Portugal event that gives them a chinese province)
- No switching between Counter Reformed Catholic and Catholic for the morale bonus while not suffering as much from techcosts increase (i.e, you need to stay CRC for at least 20 yrs (or death of the monarch)).
- No military access from the vassals of other humans

Each player has created 4 Kings. For the first session, you can choose which one you want to begin with. When the King return for another rule, he shall be named with a number beside him. Example, Ambrosia become Ambrosia II when she return as a Queen of the French!

Dynasties:

After the 1st session :
30% chances that this monarchs will die (until he returns later)

after 2 session with same monarch :
50% chances that this monarchs will die

after 3 sessions :
80% chances

after 4 sessions :
He die from old age.

So, when the monarch dies, we roll to see which one will be his successor (equal chances for all 3 remaining monarchs).

Actions

ACTIONS (all actions request should be sent to borghor@yahoo.ca)

"If you prick us do we not bleed? If you tickle us do we not laugh? If you poison us do we not die? And if you wrong us, shall we not revenge?"
Merchant of Venice

A The purpose of this actions is too encourage role-playing and allowing you to do things that you normally can’t do in-game. For example: In-game you can help another country to raise it stab by sending them money – but you can’t lower their stab.

B You earn “actionducats” (ADs) by
- 5 AD per session
- X AD for special bonuses, like completing a quest (you get them from Balinus)
- 3 AD per AAR, (if you post your AAR before Saturday GMT 17:00, you can use your ADs next session, AARs posted later will give ADs to use the session after that)
You can store your ADs for coming session up to a maximum of 20. You can’t sell or give away ADs.

C These actions are, of course, not hammered into stone. As the discussion and game goes on, they will be tweaked or even left out. Ideas for new actions are welcomed. However, lets keep the focus on the existing once. And another thing: Sure, many of the actions can be made even more detailed, adding more things to that matters for the chance of success. But that would in the end make Balinus work the calculating too hard. So lets try and keep the actions as simple as possible! I think Balinus mentioned something about 20 actions before. Well, during the development, by adding, removing and merging, these are left.

D Each action has one or many “normal” cost/s. That is because Balinus, when he feels there is a need for it, should be able to adjust the cost depending on the action taken. For example: Russia using “It belongs to me!” on a far away province in South America might cost more than the usual cost (and less chance too).

E The factors to influence the chance of success are written out. The chance is always based on the monarchs skills the session before the action takes place, otherwise it will be too hard to handle the system (in which order shall the actions be calculated?, and so on). However, please note that in all chances of success or failure can be adjusted by Balinus, whenever he fells it justified due to the circumstances in each chase. An example: Good role-playing and some AARs with some good reasons in them might give you a better chance in getting that core you want. And who knows, if you tried to cause turmoil to the same country two times without success, maybe you have “build up” a political moment in that country making it a little bit easier to succeed the third time?

F If some countries working together, stored up ADs and then using all their ADs at the same time on one single country, they could destroy that country. Try not to do that, since it can spoils the fun.

Have fun using these actions! :)

1. It belongs to me!
With the help of a fabricated line of succession, a false testament, a lawyer and some ducats, almost any ruler could get "evidence" to support his claim to a province. Claims that sometimes where recognized by other, but sometimes just ignored. However, a successful one often gave bad relations to other nations.
Chance of success: It depends on your monarchs DIP skill, the provinces culture and religion
Effect: You get a core on the province in question and 1 BB-point
Failure: Risk of that everybody gets more suspicious against you…. (0,3 BB-point added!)
Normal cost: 2 AD
Times per session: Unlimited

2. CAUSE TURMOIL*
By funding political and/or religious dissidents in another country, a ruler could cause turmoil in that country. A intolerant and narrowminded country was easier to effect than others. However, if the funding was revealed, it was almost like a declaration of war.
Chance of success: It depends mostly on your monarchs DIP skill and target countries religious sliders (if more than one religion), total of provinces with non-state religion, and dp-settings.
Effect: Stab lower by – 1 to – 3, 30 % chance that target country gets a 5 year CB on you
Failure: 50 % chance that target country gets a 5 year CB on you
Normal cost: 5 AD
Times per session: Once per target country

3. Weapons of war
Specialists in siegeing and siege-machines where often for hire!
Chance of success: It depends mostly on your monarchs MIL and your countries dp-settings (offensive/defensive).
Effect: You get a leader with 1-1-1-X, where X is between 2 – 4, lifespan 10 years + one 10 sided dice
Failure: Nothing special
Normal cost: 4 AD
Times per session: Twice

Modifiers :
Defensive slider 4 or less: +10%
Offensive slider 8 or above : -10%

4. A new company!
An investment in a trading companies could turnout really good or almost ruin a country. How good is your monarch and his/hers advisors when it comes to invest money? Let the dice roll! [Yes, this actions is mostly for fun]
Chance of success: It depends on your monarchs ADM and your countries dp-settings (aristocracy/plutocracy).
Effect: If you are lucky, a lot of ducats!
Failure: None.
Normal cost: 3, 5 or 7 AD (level I – III), the more, the bigger chance of getting more ducats
Special: If you get a lot of ducats, there is a chance you that you also get some inflation from all that new gold coming into your treasury!
Times per session: Once

Modifiers :
Plutocracy, < 2 : - 5 %
Plutocracy, > 8 : + 5 %

5. Encourage emigration
Rulers sometimes encouraged or even paid people to move from a province to a colony you own. However, emigration was a hard thing to administrate
Chance of success: It depends mostly on your monarchs ADM and your countries dp-settings (free subjects or not). If you target another country than your own, which is harder, that monarchs ADM is also taken into account. .
Effect: Some people move from target province to your colony. If you target another country, 30 % chance that target country gets a 5 year CB on you.
Failure: If you target another country, 50 % chance that target country gets a 5 year CB on you.
Normal cost: 3, 5 or 7 AD (level I – III), the more, the bigger chance of getting more people to move
Times per session: Twice
Special: You must know target province. Target province most also have at least 21000 in population (to support fortress and stop “draining” of provinces). And you must give the province id-number to Balinus!

Modifiers :
Province owners free subjects: 8 or above: - 5 %
Province owner’s narrowmindness 8 or above: + 5 %

6. We are not that bad!
You send out a lot of diplomats to the other countries with gifts, hopefully making your overall diplomatic status much better
Chance of success: Random
Effect: Some BB-reduction, depending on your monarchs DIP
Failure: No one believes in your promises, making them more suspicious against you…. (BB-point added!)
Normal cost: 2
Times per session: Once

7. MURDER!*
Evil rulers could use an assassin to kill important advisors to another ruler. If successful, a country could be severely damaged. However, it is a risky business. It is hard to get a skill full assassin that could get close to the victim and avoid the secret service in target country.
Chance of success: It depends on your monarchs DIP and MIL skills and your countries dp-settings (aristocracy/plutocracy). Also, targeted monarch's ADM skill is relevent.

If the assasins have a chance to kill the monarch, should he take it? Yes/No.

Effect: Decrease target monarch’s skills, MIL, DIP and ADM with:
1 with actions made before 1600
2 with actions made 1601 - 1700
3 with actions made 1701 –
Failure: 50 % chance that target country gets a 5 year CB on you AND that you get 3 BB-points
Normal cost: 6 AD
Times per session: Once
Special: Even if successful, there is a 25 % chance that you are revealed, giving target country a 5 year CB on you AND you 3 BB-points
[Hint: This action also effects target monarchs ability to make actions for next session, hence the cost]

8. ARSON!*
Evil rulers can hire a pyromaniac to destroy a improvement (not manufactory) for an enemy. Just like Murder!, this is not an action that you should get caught doing….
Chance of success: It depends on your what you want to be destroyed, presence of secret service, your DIP and MIL skill and target countries monarchs MIL skill. The more valuable improvement, the less chance.
Effect: Improvement destroyed! You can destroy forts, tax collectors, governors, chief judges, shipyards and conscription centres.
Failure: 50 % chance that target country gets a 5 year CB on you AND that you get 2 BB-points
Normal cost: 6 AD
Times per session: Once
Special: You can’t destroy and improvement that target country can’t build with their current tech-levels. You must know target province. Also, you must give the province id-number to Balinus! Even if successful, there is a 25 % chance that you are revealed, giving target country a 5 year CB on you AND you 2 BB-points.

9. A special wedding!
With your encouragement, a powerful noble in your country gets married into the ruling class of another country.
Chance of success: It depends on your monarchs DIP and countries involved differences in religion
Effect: A royal marriage, despite diffrences in religion (yes, Poland can have a marrige with China)
Failure: Nothing special
Normal cost: 1 for AI countries, 1 for each human country.
Times per session: Unlimited
Special: This can also be used between humans! Both countries must pay 2 AD each; success rate is 90 % (Runaway bride!)

10. Bribe!
Money – something every ruler wants to have more off. So much that it was sometimes very easy to bride another country to break a deal with your enemies
Chance of success: It depends on your monarchs DIP, relations between countries involved (between you and the AI, and between the AI and your enemy) and what kind of action you want the AI country to do.
Options: Break military alliance, break military access, break royal marriage, break vassalship and embargo a country or allow trade to a country
Effect: An AI country embargo or breaks an agreement with another human player
Failure: Nothing special
Normal cost: 5
Times per session: Once per AI country per session
Special: Only targets AI countries, the country the AI “targets” must be another human player. To embargo, the AI country must have high enough tech-skill to do it.

11. National movement
National independence movements often araised. With a little help from another country, those could be rather successful.
Chance of success: It depends on your monarchs DIP and target countries monarchs ADM skill. Harder if target country is decentralized, more easy centralized. When it comes to a province not in Europe, target lands naval/land slider also effects. If the province is a core, the success rate is less.
Effect: Nationalism in target province
Failure: 50 % chance that target country gets a 5 year CB on you
Normal cost: 5
Times per session: Three times
Special: Can’t target a capital. You must know target province. And you must give the province id-number to Balinus! Even if successful, there is a 25 % chance that you are revealed, giving target country a 5 year CB. Europe, see http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/showpost.php?p=3085619&postcount=4
Note: Nationalism last for 30 years, and can affect tax and ability to raise troops, hence the cost. About cores, don’t forget that you can use It belongs to me! on provinces you already own!

Modifiers :
For colony: Province owner naval 8 or above: - 10 %
For colony: Province owner naval 2 or less: + 10 %
Province owner centra 8 or above: - 10 %
Province owner centra 2 or less: + 10 %

12. Damn, I am cute!
By sending out envoys and diplomats with gifts, your monarch gets + 1 in DIP for each level, until next session
Chance of success: Random!
Effect: See above
Failure: If you are really unlucky, people gets more suspicious of your actions (- 1 in DIP, maximum)
Normal cost: 3, 5 or 7 AD (level I – III)
Times per session: Once
Note: Remember that this also gives your monarch a bonus when it comes to next sessions actions.

13. War!
You prepare your state for war by educating officers, mobilize, and putting all other duties aside. Time for some action on the battlefield (or batttlesea)!
Chance of success: Only random when it comes to leaders
Effect: Your monarch concentrates on war, getting + 3 in MIL, - 2 in DIP and – 2 in ADM for next session.
A chance, with bonus if you have high MIL skill before this action, to get between 1 to 5 extra leaders (at least 1, very hard to get 5!) of your choice. Leaders will be generated with the same system used for making leaders for each session
You also lose 1 stab
Failure: Less leaders are the only effect of a bad dice-roll
Normal cost: 7 AD

Times per session: Once
Special: You must go to “real” war within 10 years from the sessions start vs. a human played nation (or be in a war from the start of the session).
Note: This action is put under the “watch list”. We will see how it turns out!

14. THEFT!*
Maps where, and are, a national secret. For countries unable to explorer on their on, it was tempting to try to steal some maps from some other country….
Chance of success: Depending on if target country has a secret service, your DIP skill and target countries monarchs ADM skill.
Effect: Some 6 – 20 random maps
Failure: 50 % chance that target country gets a 5 year CB on you AND that you get 1 BB-points
Normal cost: 5 AD
Times per session: Once per country, twice per session
Special: Even if successful, there is a 25 % chance that you are revealed, giving target country a 5 year CB on you AND you 1 BB-points.
Note: You may get maps that you already have! It will be too much work for Balinus trying to compare those you got (random roll) with those you don’t have. This action is put under the “watch list”, it might give too much work. We will see how it turns out!

15. Tax-control!
To run a country you need money, money and some more money. From time to time, every ruler tried to catch some tax-avoiders
Chance of success: Mostly random, but a bonus if your monarch is good in ADM and you have a high centralization. If target province has a different religion than your state religion, the chance is less.
Effect: + 1 in base tax value in a province you control
Failure: A chance that some taxpayers hides their money, giving you less tax income (- 1 in tax value)
Normal cost: 3
Times per session: Three, once per province
Special: You must give the province id-number to Balinus!

Modifiers :
Province owner centra 8 or above: -10 %
Province owner centra 2 or less: + 10 %

16. Bureaucrats are good!
Time to concentrate on domestic affairs!
Chance of success: Random!
Effect: Your monarch gets + 1 in ADM per level for next session
Failure: If you are really unlucky, you just mess up your administration (- 1 in ADM, maximum)
Normal cost: 3, 5 or 7 AD (level I – III)
Times per session: Once
Note: Remember that this also gives your monarch a bonus when it comes to next sessions actions.

17. Turncoats!
Many merchants loyalty could always be bought….
Chance of success: Depending on if target countries monarchs DIP skill and your monarchs ADM skill.
Effect: A few random merchants, maximum 5, in one COT, defects to your country
Failure: 50 % chance that target country gets a 5 year CB on you
Normal cost: 5 AD
Times per session: Once per country, twice per session
Special: Even if successful, there is a 25 % chance that you are revealed, giving target country a 5 year CB
Note: Can only target one country and one COT. If that country only has 3 merchants in that COT, you can only get 3.

This mad King is my Nemesis!
Gain core on enemy's capital for the duration of the monarch. The core is removed when the King die.
100 % change of success, but 1 BB. Also, if you are unlucky, your enemy gets a core on your capital (~20%)
Cost : 2 AD
Times per session: Unlimited

19. Secret service
[- - - Classified- - - ;) ]
Chance of success: 100 %
Effect: Gives you a protection against Cause Turmoil, Murder, Arson and Theft (capital letters and marked with an *). The higher level, the more security you get!
Failure: -
Normal cost: 3, 5 or 7 AD (level I – III)
Times per session: Once

IMPORTANT

How do you make an action? Simple, write a nice email to Balinus, not later than GMT 17:00 on saturday, like this:

- - -

Country: Brandenburg/Prussia
Monarch: Fredrich (8/8/9) [As of previous session, with bonus and reductions included! Balinus will need this to calculte the chance for success]
AD saved: 3

QUESTS

QUESTS ARE BEING DISTRUBUTED DURING THE DAY TO THOSE WHO SENT ME AN EMAIL

Before I forget it, thanks to Bob and all you others who came up with good ideas!

First the idea was to have two kinds of quests, public ones for all and secret just for each country. That didn’t work out! So, now there is only secret ones, but some countries have the same or similar quests. So, be a little bit careful with telling your allies what quests your are up to. They might have the same quest going on themselves…

To get your quests or sign up for one, just send a PM to me, as my email does not work all the time (so that I have it all in one place and can work on it while at work). Do not use ICQ or PM. You have been warned!

I will not tell anyone, not even Balinus, which quest who are taken and by who with the obvious exception that I will tell him which ones I take on myself.

When you have accepted a quest, its up to the player to keep track on the progress. I will, on and off, check it. When you have made or failed the quest, report it to me. I will then report to Balinus for a possible reward (see more below).

The quests

Some are based on events in game, some pure fantasy. The main goal of a quest is basically to have more fun.

Every quest is basically against another human player interests or a race against time/another player. Some quests can be done in 1 – 3 sessions, others take the whole campaign. To make some quests, you might have to change allies a few times.

Each quest has one or many requirements you will have to fulfil. Here are the most common requireements:
Own direct: The province is yours on the political map
Own indirect: The province on the political map is owned by you or your AI vassal, unless something specific is noted in the quest
Control: You have successfully sieged/assaulted the province and controlled it, or owned it direct, or owned it indirect it for some time specified in the quest

You can take on as many quests as you like. Please do not take on all quest “just to be sure” and then forget to report the ones you don’t intend to do, since that will make it easier for me to keep some sort of track on it. Thank you! You can take on a quest anytime between sessions.

A few quests depend on which religion or option you take in some events that happens in-game. The quests are made for the “usual MP choise”, so I think there will be no problem. But if you chose some other religion or option, the quest might become void (you will get a new one) or have to be adjusted. Will sort that out if its happens.

The goal is to have an equal number of quests for all nations. Some countries might have some more quests than others, hopefully there are enough. There is around 6 - 7 for each nation. If you have many quests, maybe you share the same quests with others……. At lot of players have very similar (not the same) quests.

It might be hard (over even impossible) to complete all quests; you will probably have to choose. Some quests are VERY hard. However, IF you make one of those, the reward will be BIG. Remember that you also could get a reward even if you fail the quest (see below).

Try to keep an eye on what other countries are up to. To stop your enemy for completing a quest could be a wise move.

Is the quest equally fair? Impossible to say, but my guess is absolutely not. We will have the answer first when the campaign is finish! That is why the rewards are not decided in advance (see below).

Some quests will be added over time. They are done, but will not be revealed until they could be taken. I give you a (bad) example: “Capture that manufactory” will only be known after someone has built it. And no, there will be no quests about capture of manufactories.

Each country can only make their quests one time. (They are quests!)

A quest can at anytime be changed or removed (Balinus call), the game changes, players might drop, role-playing and so on.

Rewards

If you make an quest, you will get an reward by Balinus. There is also a small chance that you also get a reward if a quest is abandon (depending on why), if you just fail by a bit (quest proved too damn hard) or whatever other reason Balinus might can think of.

The size of the reward will depend on different factors. For example:
- How hard (or easy) was it? (Against AI or human? Rack up 10 % inflation to do it? etc)
- How was it made (Told everyone what you are going to do, challenging them? Role-play?)
- Use of clever and/or sneaky diplomacy?
- War?
- And so on.
What won’t give a (at least big) reward is if you just “buy your way to success”.

It is impossible to decide the size of a reward before it the quest is complete. However, Balinus has a basic guideline for what is to be handed out.

The reward can be a combination of one or many manufactories, conversions, ducats, action ducats, dp-clicks, a new state culture, leaders, a shipyard - almost everything. Quests that are kind of “crusade-quests” will probably be rewarded with some conversions and FAA, “colonization-quests” might give a shipyard and some colonists. Etc.

The main thing is to have fun! :)

- - -

Almost forgot, there is one quest that is public:

I am a whiner!
To ruin the game.
Objective: To constantly whine, disobey Balinus, cheat, etc.
Reward: Bye, bye!

Seriously, the actions and quests might not work out at all or being very unfair. We will have to adjust it as long as the game goes on. :)

EDIT: Changes and clarifications are underlined.

Kings and Queens of the Bloody World, Act I

Alphabetical order (player name) (which suits me since my name begins with B ;) ) Fate always surprise me. I decided to go with an alphabetical order as usual. First 3 peoples are the GMs. What was the probability of that?

1) Balinus, French

Gontran le Preux de Lusigne
Stats : 5-9-6

In is early days, Gontran was a Knight. A good one, always protecting the weak. When his older brother died, he never accepted that he would be the heir. He left for a couple of years, wandering East, West, North and South. Religion became very important for him. Not only was it by living a life without sins but also because religion was the base of any Nation. When he came back, he was ready to take the power by succeding to his father, le vieux renard.

Lupin le brave de Lusigne
Stats : 9-9-9

All his youth was passing thinking that his father was weak, feeble. Why his father was always protecting everyone? Lupin couldn't understand that his father was passing over secure actions. His aims is to change this direction :
To Achieve Great Accomplishment : wonders of the world, great army, great influence at any cost. His mother once said to him : "You're gonna die by your megalomaniac actions".

Ambrosia la charmeuse de Lusigne
Stats : 9-9-4

Don't tell Ambrosia she's a women : she might smile and you're gone. Charismatic to the bones, Ambrosia can always tell how to charm a male. His youth as the only child of the family told her that nothing is free, everything is there to take : for a price. Lacking military skills, she rely more on diplomacy and administration to overcome the enemy.

Louis le fou de Lusigne
Stats : 6-9-9

Louis, once, killed a peasant because he smiled at him. From this day, most people takes their white gloves when they need to speak with him, or worst, need a favor. Usually the favor, and the guy, sink in the river. This madman would have been assasinated early if he weren't a fierce warrior with a cunning strategic up-hand over most of his generals. However, on his day of his Coronation, he went for some hunting : he broke his left thumb. Now inhabited with an infinite rage and despair, he became a real madman, trying to punish to world that took his thumb.

2) Cobjor, Portuguese

- Abdelkar
Stats: 6-8-4

He doesn´t want to be a king. No, he wants to sit in the garden and just look at his flowers and think of philosophy questions. In fact, he wants to be a gardener and a philosopher. But since no one else wants to be king, he has to. He governs his country like a garden, all is well organized, everything looks nice and he lay out his plans far ahead. It is important that every flower has its own space. Sure, a bigger garden is always nice. But not at the cost of disorder. As a gardener, it is rather important to have good relations with the other gardeners.

- Belzebub.

Stats: 6-9-9

Ruthless. Evil. Vicious. One of those you scare little children with. He cares nothing except for his own good/greed. It is said that he ordered the words “give” and “free” to be banned. Those who doesn’t agree will be handle with (*chop, chop* or “WAR!”). Belzebub does not care for the other royals of Europe, unless it really concerns him or his purse. Nobles and merchants, farmers or serfs – he doesn’t care for them either, just as long as they shut up and pay their taxes. Oh, and he burned the royal garden

- Carnothe inventor.
Stats: 7-8-7

Always trying out something new - a exploration here, a conversion there. Likes to build things and to explore new concepts. Goes with his feelings and thinks afterwards. Adventurous. Interested in warfare, from a scientific view of course. Stick with the old alliance or maybe try a new one? Can’t be friends with everyone! Never satisfied and one of those who just can’t handle money

- Dhrizzt.
Stats: 8-9-9

Cunning and ambitious. Thinks far ahead, someone might say too far. Believes in independence and that his kingdoms future lies with the common man. Also a kind of philosopher. True to his friends, always an eye on his enemies. Considers his options carefully. A true defender of the Robjoc´s honour and rightful possessions!

3) Dr Bob, Russian

Inspector Bob
Stats : 7-9-9

As a child this lad was found to be meticulous in everything he did, continuing the tradition of naming every leader of this great nation with a title befitting them he was called "Inspector". He demanded perfection in everything, and although this did upset some of the drunk ill mannered louts ( in other words... foreigners) he had to deal with it set him in good stead for the stewardship of his nation. The army was on top discpline at all times and he commanded the loyalty of his troops by making sure they are always fed and dry. He was most often quoted as saying "Men would follow a charismatic leader into hell, but I can give them bread and linen while they are there". His administration was equally efficient, corrupt monoplies and bueurcrats were sent to the salt mines and he could squeeze every last penny from the economy.
During his reign Russia would focus on expansion of both the economy and the realm, as the Inspector said "If we are not progressing we are standing still, and when we start standing still what do we become? That is right, POLES!!!"

Dr Bob
Stats : 9-9-9

Perfection in everyway, this fine leader of men was qualified as a doctor before he was thrust onto the throne following the abdication of the previous claimant's with his brothers acceptance that life would be easier if he didn't have the words "if only your brother was born first" ringing in his ears. Dr Bob then set about setting up a series of reforms in every department with his armies being given some of the finest medical care in the world including dental care. Recruitment soared. He improved the economy enourmously with a series of "evil genius" stages wherein he harnassed his dead enemies souls to power a so called Research Engine. He was also the soul of courtesy to all visiting envoys and had a photographic memory that allowed him to send a seperate gift to each of the Sultans 4 wives, 17 mistresses and 48 concubines.
Dr Bob is most likely to use diplomatic means to his objectives, along with getting richer. However he deals with backstabbers, gangbangers and Ozzeh with overwhelming military force. An iron fist in a velvet glove.

Executive Bob
Stats : 8-9-6

The very first Capitalist he ran the country by the process of market economics, and let the huge mega-corporations develop which raked in huge amounts for the country at the expense of the general populace and the army, his tactic of "Lets throw money at it" worked well in diplomatic circles, the fund he commanded allowed any mistake to be patched up and the intelligence agencies had nearly infinite resources. This did not work as well with the army as the entire army got fat and lazy on the extravagant food and luxuries, giving privates a four poster bed that needed to be assembled and dissembed every night was apparently not too good for their fighting effectiveness. The peasants also got a bit annoyed by being repeatedly exploited and reduced to near serfdom which in turn led too...
The economy is his sole concern, and he tries to diffuse difficult situations via bribery.

Comrade Bob
Stats : 8-7-8

A socialist born in the age of the mega-corporations he was sickened by his father's exploitation of the peasants and so intiated a series of crazy changes in the way the country worked, the super-rich were taxed at 100% and the money went to the poor, who then squandered it on magic beans sold by the foreign merchants. This had the benefit of keeping cordial relations with everyone else despite the ungodly system of government being implemented, after all who cares about his idealology when he is giving you money. The army did improve from his descenadants reign however as the peasants were overall more patriotic and fought to protect their freedom which by and large compensated for the abysmal tactics invented in this era.

His method of social reform has two competing philosphies, he is unsure whether to perfect his own nation and make it into a glowing vision of socialim, therby inspiring other peasants to rise up. Or to spread it by the sword and the bullet, and force the peasants to rise up or get sent to Siberia. He is also paranoid and considers pre-emptive strikes pure genius.

4) Fnuco, Swedish

Virginia "the Chaste"
Stats : 8-9-8

The beautiful duchess of Svealand became queen after her father's death, when she was only 16 years old. True to her promise to let her father choose her husband, she decided to break the normal succession rules, and not marry. Many European princes and kings wanted to marry the young Virginia, as she was the queen of a very powerful country (DIP 8). Not being interested in looking for a suitable husband, she dedicated her time to improving her country (ADM 9). She was also known as "the warrior princess" and more than once her presence on the battlefield turned the course of the battle when the Swedes seemed doomed, leading her armies to victory riding her semi-legendary mare (MIL 8).

Fnuco "the Great" Vasa
Stats : 9-9-9

Fnuco Vasa is maybe the most controversial person in Swedish history, as many historians fail to explain how he managed to be perfect in everything. A brilliant administrator, protector of merchants, workers and artists, he still managed to avoid any conflict with the nobles (ADM 9). During his reign, the Fnucos became relatives of all the European ruling families and long lasting friendships and alliances were forged by his extraordinary diplomatic movements on the European stage (DIP 9). Although he fought only one war against the bloodthirsty Norwegians, he was unanimously recognized as a military genius. His campaign in the mountains and fjords of Norway was the utmost show of brilliant generalship. His real military skils were unvealed in the first revolutionary military reforms Europe has ever seen (MIL 9)

Knut "Shortbow"
Stats : 9-8-8

Poor Knut had a very small... "appendix", therefore gaining the nickname "shortbow". His frustrations had both negative and positive effects. He neglected the country's internal well-being (ADM 8), while seeking alliances with foreign powers(DIP 9) and defending his honor and his allies on the battlefield whenever he could. (MIL 8) Famous for his moments of blinding rage and his complexing need of being accepted, Knut was also Sweden's greatest conqueror. During his reign, the kingdom's boundaries were pushed further than before, and Sweden was the most respected power in the whole world.

Harald "the Just"
Stats : 9-8-8

There was nothing more Swedish than this man. A tall, blonde, athletic, beautiful descendant of the vikings, he gave Sweden its longest period of peace and wealth. Never before has Sweden been so respected abroad without a single shot being fired. (DIP 9) He continued his father's military reforms even during peace times and he improved the country's weakened infrastructure. (ADM 8, MIL 8) According to the historians, had his reign lasted more, Sweden would have gained such an advantage over its neighbours, that its might would have caused the country to self-implode.

5) Elio Vasa, German

Sebastien von Fraese
9-9-9

Emerging from relative obscurity, Sebastien von Fraese is the founder of the Fraese Dynasty in Brandenburg. After disease eliminated the last of the Hohenzollern lineage, this popular cavalry officer staged a bloodless coup and seized the reins of power, "for the good of the people and the glory of Brandenburg."

Sebastien's quick rise to power was facilitated by his good humour - as a ruler, he is renowned for his ability to make those around him smile in the most trying circumstances. At the same time, his conviviality is complemented by a dangerously sharp intellect and talent for organization; this is reflected in his ability as an administrator and commander in chief of the armed forces.

Wilhelio der Große
9-9-9

In his youth Werner escaped the stress and chaos of court life into the world of literature and learning. This stood him in good stead when he inherited the crown, and put his formidable talents to practical application. Renowned for his sense of justice, one of his first acts was to resolve a violent estate dispute between two heirs to the duchy of Oberhavel by expropriating the property for the state and pensioning off the two feuding siblings. His determined centralizing policies made him a few enemies, but his extremely effective administration had no difficulty silencing them in the maximum security dungeons of Potsdam. Werner is clever enough to *know* he is always right, and brooks no opposition within his realm, or on the battlefield.

Herbelio von Braunschweig
6-7-9

From his youth, Cornelius carried on the Fraese tradition of intellectualism; some would say he carried it too far; most of his time is spent lost in his own thoughts. While he has written several outstanding books on the theory of government and law, he has little interest in their day-to-day affairs of state. Perhaps the main impediment for Cornelius in affairs of state is his lack of patience with those he percieves as his intellectual inferiors, which includes almost everyone. At the same time, his military strategic ability is very real, and war provides an opportunity for him to demonstrate his superiority over lesser men.

Cornelio von Braunschweig
7-8-8

Bernhard was a promising youth who many thought would be one of the greatest monarchs in Europe. Extraordinarily precocious, he was familiarized with high politics from a young age, and became rather famous in his teenage years for his facility with words and lavish parties featuring powerful people. Critics allege that he spread himself too thin in his early years and may have entered politics too young; the greatness hinted at by his precocious beginnings seemed to melt into mere competence by his mid-twenties, when he finally inherited the throne.

6) Grabah, Polish

Jan Grabahkuskovski
9-7-7

Not best statesman word has seen. medicore in everything. Pretty fat. does not care much about reforms, economy or wars. Tipical member of old aristocracy. Most important thing for him is who will be invited on royal hunts and protocol. Who sits where on royal banquets and with what words foreign dignitaries must be saluted. On military parades colour of his coat is far more important than shape of his army. All 'unimportant' things he luckily leaves to his subordinates. There is a famous anegdote about him when one of his ministers was reporting about allready dangerous falling behind neighbours in arment . all he said was "yes offcourse our army must get those new shiny golden buttons too".

Jan Grabahovinski
9-9-9

Great Grabahovinski strives to prove himself in the eyes of others, on the batllefield if possible. Allways personaly in charge of his army he leads all decisive calvary charges by himself. His thirst for glory is simply stronger than him. Ready to enter wars witch won't benifit him or his country, just to prove himself. He is not likely to declare wars on not worthy, weaker oponents or join gangbangs. Man who dreams about saving europian capitols from turkish danger or whoever is consider dangerous at the moment. Dreams of being called protector of europe.

Jan Grabovitz
7-8-8

His mother didn't wanted him, at the time she got pregnant her housband was allready 3 months on a war expedition somwhere deep in russia. So offcourse poor jan was big inconvinience both for mother and for the court. couple of abortion attempts (poison, witchcraft and finally jump down the stairs, head first) failed, that is partially failed. he was born as a freak. woman who delivered baby allmost droped him in discust thinking only mother can love this child. She was so wrong, no one could love him. When he was litlle kid they had to tie up chunks of meat around his neck so dogs would wanted to play with him. Problem with young grabovitz wasn't that he was just phisicly ugly(hunchback, one shorter leg, useles left eye and baldnes from early childhood) he was also mental freak. not in a sence he was retarded, he was actualy rather inteligent. but in a sence he enjoyed other people pain. evil to the bone. he never hasitated to beat up weaker yunger children. known to sexualy molest 10years old girls when he was teenager, he knew his parents would allways cover things up, out of sheer embarisment. He got in a throne by asassing 10 members of royal family who where before him in succesion line, including his mother. he will do anything just to screw someone up and guaranteed to attack all weaker neighbours or anyone curently in problems.

Veronika Grabahova
9-9-9

Very beautiful and inteligent, litlle known princess from bohemia came to throne by meriage. soon after her incompetent housband become monarch she allied with patriotic nobility and generals to overthrow him. Althou not polish by birth extreamly patriotic and just. Defence and benifit of holy polish lands is first thing on her mind. She hates wars and bloodshed but won't hasitate a second to use arms in defence, ready to fight to the last men in protection of poland. Allways ready to suport weaker nations. Great reformist, she leans toward advanced inovative society, education and abolishnes of serfdom.

Kings and Queens of the Bloody World, Act II

7) Jamala, German (Austria)

1. Maximilian I
dip 7, adm 9, mil 7
"Tu felix Austria nube"

Elected King of the Romans in 1486 at the initiative of his father, he also stood at the head of the Holy Roman Empire upon his father's death in 1493. The following year brought French intervention in Italy, inaugurating the prolonged Italian Wars. He joined the Holy League to counter the French. The war only ended with a success of the Empire after his death.

Maximilian is possibly best known for leading the 1495 Reichstag at Worms which concluded on the Reichsreform (Imperial Reform), reshaping much of the constitution of the Holy Roman Empire.

In 1508, Maximilian, with the assent of Pope, took the title of Elected Roman Emperor (Erwählter Römischer Kaiser), and thus ended the century-old custom that the Holy Roman Emperor had to be crowned by the pope.

In order to reduce the growing pressures on the Empire brought about by treaties between the rulers of France, Poland, Hungary, Bohemia, and Russia, as well as to secure Bohemia and Hungary for the Habsburgs, Maximilian I met with the Jagiellonian kings Ladislaus II of Hungary and Bohemia and Sigismund I of Poland at Vienna in 1515. The marriages arranged there brought Habsburg kingship over Hungary and Bohemia in 1526.

2. Karol V
dip 7, adm 9, mil 7

Family and nationality
It is hard to say what nationality Charles really held. He was a Habsburg on his father's side, but he was not German. His mother tongue was French, that being the language of the aristocracy in the Low Countries (modern-day Belgium, Luxembourg, the French région of Nord-Pas-de-Calais and the Netherlands), where he grew up. In his youth, he made frequent visits to Paris, then the largest city of Western Europe, which he thoroughly enjoyed, like most aristocrats of his day. In his words: "Paris is not a city, but a universe" (Lutetia non urbs, sed orbis). He also famously said: "I speak Spanish to God, Italian to women, French to men and German to my horse." Though his first language was French, in which he was known as Charles Quint (Charles the Fifth), he was a lifelong enemy of the Kings of France. His mother was Spanish, and Spain was the core of his kingdom, but he himself was not Spanish. He probably felt more at home in the Low Countries where he had spent his youth. In Spain, he always felt a foreign prince, and he was never totally assimilated.

Early life
Charles was born in Ghent and brought up in the Low Countries until 1517, where he was tutored by Adrian of Utrecht, later Pope Adrian VI. His three most prominent subsequent advisors were Lord Chièvres, Jean Sauvage, and Mercurino Gattinara. In 1506, on the death of his father, Charles inherited the Low Countries and Franche-Comté. After the death of his grandfather Ferdinand in 1516, Charles became joint-king of Castile with his mother Joanna of Castile (who was insane), and also inherited Aragon, Navarre, Naples, Sicily and Sardinia from his grandfather, and Castilian dependencies Granada and Spanish America (in the latter overseeing the conquest of the Aztec and Inca empires in the Americas, led by the Spanish conquistadors). Upon arriving in Castile and dismissing the regent Cardinal Cisneros, he had to fight the Castilian War of the Communities against the cities and petty nobles who disliked his appointment of Flemings for Castilian offices. He eventually won and from then on Castilian Cortes were keen on conceding him the vast resources needed for the numerous wars he waged in Europe. After the death of his other grandfather, Maximilian, in 1519, he inherited Habsburg lands in Austria and was elected Holy Roman Emperor on June 28, 1519.

He married the Infanta Isabella in 1526, sister of John III of Portugal, who had shortly before married Catherine, Charles's sister.

Wars against France and the Reformation

Charles V initiated many wars with France during his reign, first fighting against them in Northern Italy in 1521. Later in the Italian Wars, in 1527, his troops sacked Rome, causing Charles some embarrassment but enabling him to keep the Pope from annulling the marriage of Henry VIII of England and Catherine of Aragon, who was his aunt.

As Holy Roman Emperor, he called Martin Luther to the Diet of Worms in 1521, promising him safe conduct if he would appear. He outlawed Luther and his followers in that same year but was tied up with other concerns and unable to try to stamp out Protestantism.

In a war supported by Henry VIII of England, in 1525 Charles captured François I of France and forced him to sign the Treaty of Madrid, in which France renounced her claims to northern Italy. When he was released, however, François I had the Parliament of Paris denounce the treaty, because it had been signed under duress. The 1529 Treaty of Cambrai (signed with France) and the Peace of Barcelona (with the Pope) confirmed Charles as Holy Roman Emperor and also allowed him to keep the lands he had acquired in Italy.

1524 to 1526 saw the Peasants' Revolt in Germany and the formation of the Lutheran Schmalkaldic League, and Charles delegated increasing responsibility for Germany to his brother Ferdinand while he concentrated on problems abroad.

Wars against the Ottoman Empire

He had been fighting with the Ottoman Empire and its sultan, Suleiman the Magnificent, for a number of years. The expeditions of the Ottoman force along the Mediterranean coast posed a threat to Habsburg lands and the peace of Western Europe. In Central Europe, the Turkish advance was halted at Vienna in 1529, which they besieged unsuccessfully. In 1535 Charles won an important victory at Tunis, but in 1536 Francis I of France allied himself with Suleiman against Charles. While Francis was persuaded to sign a peace treaty in 1538, he again allied himself with the Ottomans in 1542. In 1543 Charles allied himself with Henry VIII and forced Francis to sign the Truce of Crepy-en-Laonnois. Charles later signed a humiliating treaty with the Ottomans, to gain him some respite from the huge expenses of their war.

The Council of Trent and other reforms
In 1545 the opening of the Council of Trent began the Counter-Reformation, and Charles won to the Catholic cause some of the princes of the Holy Roman Empire. He also attacked the Schmalkaldic League in 1546 and defeated John Frederick, Elector of Saxony and imprisoned Philip of Hesse in 1547. At the Augsburg Interim in 1548 he created a doctrinal compromise that he felt Catholics and Protestants alike might share. A more permanent settlement followed with the 1555 Peace of Augsburg.

In 1548 he made the Seventeen Provinces of the Netherlands (Low Countries) an entity separate from both the Empire and from France (the "Pragmatic Sanction of 1548").

In 1550, Charles convened a conference at Valladolid in order to consider the morality of the force used against the indigenous populations of Spanish America.

In 1555, his mother, the Queen of Castile, died. Thus, he finally obtained the full kingship of that country.

In 1556 Charles abdicated his various positions, giving his personal empire to his son, Philip II of Spain, and the Holy Roman Empire to his brother, Ferdinand. Charles retired to the monastery of Yuste (Extremadura, Spain) and is thought to have had a nervous breakdown. He died in 1558. In the last two decades of his life he suffered from gout. The Emperor was buried by his grandson, King Philip III of Spain, in the Royal Pantheon of the Monastery of San Lorenzo de El Escorial, northwest of Madrid.

3. Maria Theresa
9/9/9 (more balls then everyone else on this list)

Her Imperial and Royal Highness Maria Theresa, Princess Imperial and Archduchess of Austria, Princess Royal of Hungary and Bohemia was the eldest daughter of Charles VI whose sole male heir - his son Leopold Johann - died as an infant in 1716. In 1713 Charles issued the Pragmatic Sanction which guaranteed his daughter the right to succeed to the Austrian throne and inherit his united lands on his death. While many European monarchs agreed to the Pragmatic Sanction when it was issued, on Charles' death (1740) the War of Austrian Succession began.

At the time, Maria Theresa was married to Francis Stephen of Lorraine with whom she had sixteen children. Her youngest daughter was Marie Antoinette who would be promised in marriage to Louis, heir apparent to the king of France, who was later crowned King Louis XVI. She had 16 children by him, with 6 daughters (all of whom were named "Marie _______") and 5 sons surviving to adulthood. She made him co-regent of her Austrian dominions, but she actually kept most of the power to herself.

Maria Theresa's father had assumed that she would yield the true power to her husband. Because of this, her father had not given Maria Theresa any information on the workings of the government, leaving her to learn the job on her own. Additionally, the army was weak and the treasury depleted due to two wars near the end of her father's reign.

The War of the Austrian Succession began with Frederick II of Prussia invading and occupying Silesia. While Bavaria and France also invaded Austrian western territories, it was Frederick (later known as Frederick the Great) who became Maria Theresa's main foe during her reign. Therefore she focused her internal and external policies on defeating Prussia and regaining the lands that had been taken from Austria.

In 1748, France gave the Austrian Low Countries that it conquered back to Maria Theresa. In exchange, Maria Theresa ceded Parma, Piacenza, and Guastalla to the Infante Felipe of Spain.

She doubled the number of troops in the army, changed taxes to guarantee a steady annual income to support the government and military. She centralized the government by combining the Austrian and Bohemian chancelleries, formerly separate, into one administrative office. Before this, justice and administration were overseen by the same officials, but she created a supreme court with the sole responsibility for upholding justice in her lands. These reforms strengthened the economy. She dropped the Kingdom of Great Britain as an ally on the advice of her state chancellor, Wenzel Anton von Kaunitz, and allied with Russia and France. In 1752 she established a military academy, and in 1754 she established an academy of engineering science. She also demanded that the University of Vienna be given the resources to make the medical faculty more efficient. When she felt her army was strong enough, she prepared to attack Prussia in 1756. Frederick II attacked first however, invading Saxony, another ally of Austria, beginning the Seven Years' War. The war ended in 1763 with Maria Theresa signing the Treaty of Hubertusberg which recognized Prussian ownership of Silesia.

Her husband died two years later. Her devotion to him was so great that she dressed in mourning clothes until her own death 15 years later and became more closeted from her people. Her focus changed from attempting to regain Silesia, to maintaining the peace. She also recognized Joseph II, her eldest son, as coregent and emperor. She allowed him only limited powers because she felt he was too rash and arrogant.

In the later years of her reign, she focused on reforming the laws regarding serfs. In 1771, she issued the Robot Patent, a reform that regulated the serf's labor payments in her lands, providing them some relief.

She died in 1780, the only female to rule during the 650-year-long Habsburg dynasty.

4. Josef II
dip 6, adm 9, mil 5

Joseph was born in the midst of the early upheavals of the War of the Austrian Succession. Maria Theresa gave orders that he was only to be taught as if he were amusing himself; the result was that Joseph acquired a habit of crude and superficial study. His real education was given him by the writings of Voltaire and the Encyclopedists, and by the example of Frederick the Great. His useful training was conferred by government officials, who were directed to instruct him in the mechanical details of the administration of the numerous states composing the Austrian dominions and the Empire.

He was made a member of the newly constituted council of state (Staatsrath) and began to draw up minutes (to which he gave the name of "Reveries") for his mother to read. These papers contain the germs of his later policy, and of all the disasters which finally overtook him. He was a friend to religious toleration, anxious to reduce the power of the church, to relieve the peasantry of feudal burdens, and to remove restrictions on trade and knowledge. In these, he did not differ from Frederick, Catherine of Russia, or his own brother and successor Leopold II, all enlightened rulers of the 18th century stamp.

Where Joseph differed from great contemporary rulers, and where he was very close akin to the Jacobins, was in the fanatical intensity of his belief in the power of the state when directed by reason, of his right to speak for the state uncontrolled by laws, and of the reasonableness of his own reasons. He had also inherited from his mother the belief of the house of Austria in its "august" quality and its claim to acquire whatever it found desirable for its power or profit. He was unable to understand that his philosophical plans for the moulding of mankind could meet with pardonable opposition.

Joseph was documented by contemporaries as being impressive, but not necessarily likeable. In 1760, his arranged consort, the well educated Isabella of Parma, was handed over to him. Joseph appears to have been completely in love with her, but Isabella preferred the companionship of Joseph's sister, Marie Christine of Austria. The overweening character of the Emperor was obvious to Frederick II of Germany, who, after their first interview in 1769, described him as ambitious, and as capable of setting the world on fire. The French minister Vergennes, who met Joseph when he was travelling incognito in 1777, judged him to be "ambitious and despotic."

Until the death of his mother in 1780, Joseph was never quite free to follow his own instincts. After the death of his father in 1765, he became emperor and was made co-regent by his mother in the Austrian dominions. As emperor, he had no real power, and his mother had resolved that neither her husband nor her son should ever deprive her of sovereign control in her hereditary dominions. Joseph, by threatening to resign his place as co-regent, could induce his mother to abate her dislike for religious toleration. He could and did place a great strain on her patience and temper, as in the case of the first partition of Poland and the Bavarian War of 1778–1779, but in the last resort, the empress spoke the final word.

During these wars, Joseph traveled much. He met Frederick the Great privately at Neisse in 1769, and again at Mährisch-Neustadt in 1770. On the second occasion, he was accompanied by Prince Kaunitz, whose conversation with Frederick may be said to mark the starting point of the first partition of Poland. To this and to every other measure which promised to extend the dominions of his house, Joseph gave hearty approval. Thus, he was eager to enforce Austria's claim on Bavaria upon the death of the elector Maximilian Joseph in 1777. In April of that year, he paid a visit to his sister the queen of France, Marie Antoinette, traveling under the name of "Count Falkenstein." He was well received and much flattered by the Encyclopedists, but his observations led him to predict the approaching downfall of the French monarchy, and he was not impressed favourably by the French army or navy.

In 1778, he commanded the troops collected to oppose Frederick, who supported the rival claimant to Bavaria. Real fighting was averted by the unwillingness of Frederick to embark on a new war and by Maria Theresa's determination to maintain peace. In April 1780, Joseph paid a visit to Catherine II of Russia, against the wish of his mother.

The death of Maria Theresa on November 27, 1780, left Joseph free. He immediately directed his government on a new course, full speed ahead. He proceeded to attempt to realise his ideal of a wise despotism acting on a definite system for the good of all. The measures of emancipation of the peasantry which his mother had begun were carried on by him with feverish activity. The spread of education, the secularisation of church lands, the reduction of the religious orders and the clergy in general to complete submission to the lay state, the promotion of unity by the compulsory use of the German language—everything which from the point of view of 18th century philosophy appeared "reasonable"—were undertaken at once. He strove for administrative unity with characteristic haste to reach results without preparation.

His anticlerical innovations induced Pope Pius VI to pay him a visit in July 1782. Joseph received the pope politely and showed himself a good Catholic, but refused to be influenced. On the other hand, Joseph was very friendly to Freemasonry, as he found it highly compatible with his own Enlightenment philosophy, although he apparently never joined the Lodge himself.

Multiple interferences with old customs began to produce unrest in all parts of his dominions. Meanwhile, Joseph threw himself into a succession of foreign policies, all aimed at aggrandisement, and all equally calculated to offend his neighbours—all taken up with zeal, and dropped in discouragement. He endeavoured to get rid of the Barrier Treaty, which debarred his Flemish subjects from the navigation of the Scheldt. When he was opposed by France, he turned to other schemes of alliance with Russia for the partition of Turkey and Venice. These plans also had to be given up in the face of the opposition of neighbours, and in particular of France. Then Joseph resumed his attempts to obtain Bavaria—this time by exchanging it for Belgium—and only provoked the formation of the Fürstenbund, organized by the king of Prussia.

Finally, Joseph joined Russia in an attempt to pillage Turkey. It began on his part in an unsuccessful and discreditable attempt to surprise Belgrade in time of peace, and was followed by the ill-managed campaign of 1788. He accompanied his army, but showed no capacity for war; the low point of this campaign was the extraordinary incident known as the Battle of Karansebes, in which the Austrian army ran away from an imaginary Turkish army. In November 1788, he returned to Vienna with ruined health, and during 1789, was a dying man. The concentration of his troops in the east gave the malcontents of Belgium an opportunity to revolt. In Hungary, the nobles were in all but open rebellion, and in his other states, there were peasant risings and a revival of particularist sentiments. Joseph was left entirely alone. His minister Kaunitz refused to visit his sick-room and did not see him for two years. His brother Leopold remained at Florence. At last, Joseph, worn out and broken-hearted, recognised that his servants could not, or would not, carry out his plans. On January 30, 1790, he formally withdrew all his reforms, and he died on February 20, 1790.

The Council of Seven, a secretive group of buisnessmen, took power by systematically buying privatized government institutions. Their reign became popular as they introduced their "customer-related-government". 11) Ozzeh, Turk

Introduction

Humans are ignorant. They believe themselves the only intelligent race on the planet Earth, and have believed themselves alone in the universe for all ages. Any lone human claiming there are others out there has been met with disbelief and contempt. The Other race did not mind this. It well suited their ends. As long as humans did not know they existed, their lives could be lived on the high standard of civilization they had always known without being disturbed by these barbarous creatures.

Time passed. The "barbarous creatures" started to build houses. The Other race did not mind. They simply moved to another place. One with more shadows, to hide. They could have driven the humans from their houses. They could have annihilated their race. However, they did not consider the humans more of a threat than the humans considered sheep a threat.

More time passed. The sparse human houses had grown into large cities. Millions of the filthy animals filled the once beautiful Earth. The Other race had been forced into deep hiding. The humans far outnumbered them, and they constantly threatened to find the Other race in their hiding place. The Others had always been peaceful. They were civilized. Why would they kill when the Earth could be shared? However, the young members of the race started to feel restless due to the human pressure. They realized that the human race would only grow in size and in the end, their own race would probably cease to exist. Slaughtered by humans, since they were a breed of peace and could not defend themselves. They would not let this happen. Action had to be undertaken. War was out of the question; the human numbers were to great for that. Careful observations showed however that the humans warred themselves. This could be used. A subtle plan was made, targeting the nation humans called "The Ottoman Empire"....

The Ottoman Empire was founded by a turk named Ottoman in years past. It started out a small entity, but conquered more and more land, eventually even capturing the befabled city of Constantinople. This made the Ottoman Empire a major power in the world. However, as any Empire of Man, it's reign was a corrupt and foul one. Justice was sparse, the reign was absolute and certainly not in the best interest of the people. This puzzled the Other race. Why would not every member of the human race get equal attention? Why did not the human race concentrate on it's survival and continuation, as every other creature on the planet did?

It was after careful observation of this "Ottoman Empire" that the Other race decided on it's goal. All humans should be ruled by the Other race, for the good of both races. Humans were clearly not capable of ruling themselves, and caused harm to both other humans and the Others. To achieve this goal, the Others slowly started making themselves known to key persons in the Ottoman government. With their uncanning intelligence, they made themselves invaluable to those persons. Slowly, they started replacing these people. More and more people were included in the circle and made aware of the Others' presence. It took them many revelations of the planet around the star, but in the end the entire Empire worshipped them. Few in number, they relied on humans to perform the menial work to keep the Empire running. There was however no doubt as to who was in control. The strongest of their race now no longer headed their Council, but became Sultan of the Ottoman Empire...

These strong leaders then sought to expand their Empire to the rest of the human world. Force was not a necessity, many humans believed the Others were the best choice for government. Under the Others, the Ottoman Empire thrived. Other human nations were befriended. However, the Others had lost their disgust of violence and would now use force whenever necessary to achieve their goal...

The strongest leaders of the Others were honoured by many human historians. Four of them left a specifically deep impression.

Caelin Elessedil
9-9-9

This Other excelled in every task he set his mind to. His magnificent silver-blue scales and sparkling gold eyes left any who set his eyes upon him in awe. Charming as he was, there was scarcely anything he could not get solely by the power of his words and looks. Foreign diplomats forgot their demands and returned home with concessions made to the Ottoman Empire. Human armies looked upon his magnificence and turned against their own rulers. His gold eyes never seemed to miss any detail. He quickly grasped the human concept of currency and turned it to his own use. Not a coin in his Empire went wasted. His keen intellect improved infrastructure and trade where humans could think no further. This kind and gentle Other however, had another side to him. This side was represented by the silver sword that hung at his hip. Runes were burned into the alien metal, glowing red with power. When Caelin Elessedil drew that sword, his eyes went cold. What no Other of the old times could have imagined, had happened to this one. When no diplomatic or administrative solution would suit him, force became his tool. He did not delight in using it, but when he did, he wielded his sword so relentlessly that he didn't have to use it very often...

Tintaglia
9-8-7

Tintaglia was also called the Ice Queen. Unlike humans, Others did not deny the talent a female could wield. The humans were showed this mistake quickly. Her white scaling and sapphire eyes left any human man bewitched. They were so hopelessly attracted to this alien creature that they surrendered her everything she wanted. Including their coin and their services for improving her kingdom. What intelligence and administrative capabilities she did not posses, she used her men for. The only slight weakness of this strategy was that in war, humans tended to become too reckless for her sake. Their devotion was so complete they ran themselves into hopeless deaths. So, often, Tintaglia had to wield her white, sparkling sword herself to turn the course of a war.

Maulkin
7-9-9

That Others were not completely immune to the faults of humans became clear in Maulkin. He was a large Other, towering over every creature. In his youth, he had gone on a quest for the lost sword of Jhaneira, said to have incredible power. He stayed away for many years and when he returned, he returned with the sword. The journey had however somehow changed him. Where most Others were just and despised violence, he had gone cruel and selfish. He was called mad, but that did not stop him. He seized the position of Sultan due to his fearful demeanor and displays of power. Though not the most intelligent Other, he got every task done, simply because everyone feared him so badly. His rippling green scales and black eyes could make a man die of fear. Though he did not make many friends, his powerful sword got things done more swiftly than words ever could have done. He did damage to the Empire and the reputation of Others by his rule, yet the things he did good far outweighed this. After his death he was honored for the good things, his cruel demeanor forgotten.

Sessurea the Wise
8-9-9

Sessurea was already old when he came into rule. Traditional as he was, he despised violence. He also wasn't entirely sure Others were supposed to rule over humans, but he was determined to do so as best he could, to show them how to perhaps one day rule themselves. His scales were a dull grey, his eyes a soft brown. The fact that he never wore a sword said a lot about his character. The few wars fought out in his reign he didn't witness himself, as other Sultans used to do. However, he planned out every single detail of the battles and he did that so well that his generals never lost. This planning of every detail was crucial to him. He never delegated, did everything himself. Intelligent, he completed his tasks most efficiently. To foreigners he might seem dull, which somewhat hurt his diplomatic efficiency, but his generous deals always swayed them. His own people, even the humans, loved him. They began to call him "The Wise". His rule made clear that humans and Others could live in peace, if they just followed the right set of laws.

12) Sable, Venetian

Vaskir von Rammstein, Catholic
6-7-8

The first in the line of Rammsteins, a noble Germanic famliy that came to power in the mid 15th century. What he lacks in Diplomicy and Economics, he makes up for with his sword. He has a short temper and has been known to throw advisoirs out of windows, when they don't agree with him.

Naeda von Rammstein, Catholic/Reformed
9-9-9

Daughter of Vaskir I. She was brought up with only the best in schooling, and Military teachings. Vaskir I reign did not produce a male heir, so he instiled all the workings of a capable leader into Naeda. He had teachers from Paris.. Berlin.. all over the known world come to Venice. Naeda is known for her calm attitude and cool head. She wont back down from anything or anyone.. but always has an open ear to new ideas and ways of thinking.

Vaskir von Rammstein II, Reformed
9-9-9

Naeda's Reign produced a son.. Vaskir II, she named him after her father.
Like Naeda was.. Vaskir was taught by the best. He is much like his mother. But he is more religious in his dession making.

Rudo von Rammstein ?????
9-6-8

Rudo.. is a large man. And only one word describes him: Fighter. Not much is known about him. Other then his towering height, and short temper.

QUESTS MADE

1. Revenge!
The Muslim world celebrates the brave Sultans capture and control of the city of Rome. Now shall the infidels know the true might of Allah! What a humiliation for the Christian world!

As the new spreads, spontaneous Sunni Muslim preachers appear and common people flock to the Mosques. The Beys honours the Sultan by building him a new palace, wherever he likes! And most surprisingly, the Shah of Persia sends the Sultan a great gift!

2. There can only be one true Patriarch!
This quest is forgotten and only those who have a good memory remembers it...

3. A sunni muslim Hungary
At last, the whole of Hungary was Sunni! Once more, the Muslim world celebrated the Sultan. Spontaneous Sunni Muslim preachers appear and common people flock to the Mosques. A famous mullah, with some skills in mapmaking, gave his services to the Sultan. A lot of Hungarian nobles joined the Sultans army. The Sultan also got some gifts from other Muslims, except - for understandeble reasons - the Shah.

4. North Africa is in Muslim hands!
United under one muslim leader, the old African arabic culture sprung to life. The old and ancient Libary of Alexandria was rebuilt, and muslim students travelled from distant lands to study there. The city prospered. Also, old castles where rebuilt to there former glory.

5. Russia in North America! & Teach those Chinese a lesson!
The serfs and nobels cheered as the news that the mighty Russian Empire had reach lands far away - on another continent! Soon also the news about the Czar marvelous victory over the Chinese came to Moscow, and there was no limit to the Russians praise of the Czar! The gifts just came flowing in to the Czar. From the nobles gifts a Royal Naval Academy was built in Ingermanland. To meet the demand for naval supplies, and with the money from the mercants gifts, a naval manufactory was planned to be built wherever the Czar wished. A famous Admrial, De Tosa from Portugal, offered his services to the Czar. There was also news about a new trading company being created in Siberia. But above all, much to the Czars delite, no one remembered the sacking of.... Well, what was it now? Can´t remember...

6. We are the Germans!
After many years of struggel, the Austrian managed to unite all german volk under their rule. With a firm hand, the Habsburg conviced the militaristic germans to use their knowledge and power to strengthen the Habsburg Empire. A weaponfactory was built, the system for conscription reformed and some fortifications were repaired. A new promissing general enlisted the service of the Habsburgs.

7. Protect our protestant and reformed brothers and sisters in Central Germany!
The Margarve had almost made it. For long he had fought for the goals set up by his ancestors. And yet, he failed by so little. Still, some protestants and reformed had noticed his efforts and gave the Margarve a helping hand.

8. An orthodox bastion
The polish, strong in their catholic belief, had managed to keep the ortodox faith outside Central Europe - much because of the strong muslim precens in the Balkan. Still, it was a very notable act, reconized by powerful catholics orders and the Pope. And their help was needed.

9. From Ingermanland to the Pasific ocean!
The wast tagia was tamed, Russia was now in control of Siberia. Emigrants, hoping for a better future, took their belongs and went out on the long journey for the new and prosperous lands. Amongst them, an notable map-maker offered his services to the Czar.

10. Control over the trade in the Eastern Mediterranian
By force and diplomacy, the Sultan gained full control over the trade in the Eastern Mediterranian. A new company was found, and with that came a new factory. Trade was booming. However, the monopoly competed out many free traders. Denied their trade, they turned into piracy and roamed the Mediterrainan looking for tradeships!

11. Mother Russia rules the seas
And old ancient dream of the Tsars were to control a port bordering each sea or ocean. Now, Russia would now go fully naval and rule the seas!

13. The spanish gold galleys are captured!
In a swith and cunning pirate-like operation, the Swedish navy managed to engage and plunder the spanish ships carrying the gold from America to Madrid! Some of the plunder was used to build a new shipyard. The rest, well over a thousend ducats, went strait into the Swedish kings purse. It was a small miracle that all those ducats did not cause some more inflation to the allready strained Swedish economy... There is also a rumour that the famous
pirate "Goldfinger" now has joined the Swedish navy.

14. WHO IS THE MASTER THE SEAS - EH?
Yo. Bubba is in the house and he rules the seas. Period. Well, at least for some years...

Maneover, Fire, Shock

0-10 = 2
11-40 = 3
41-84 = 4
85- 98 = 5
99 = 6
Siege : 20% chance to get a siege value

If percentage *< 20%

And Siege=
0-40% of 1
40-70% chance of 2

*subscribing to this new thread*

i'm really looking forward to starting the new campaign.

Not sure where to post the history of Admiral Van Illa, so I post it here and in the old thread.

Admiral Van Illa (* and **)

Carno(***), king of all Portuguese, had a problem. He had to name a admiral for the Home Fleet. But who should he pick?

Bartolomeu? A fine sailor. Top scores in many of the exams at the Royal Navy Academy. But Bartolomeu was needed elsewhere. No, it couldn’t be him. Vasco? No, that great mans destiny was to explorer, not to guard the home waters. One of the brothers de Corte Real? God sailors with experience in naval warfare. A perfect choice. If not for project [classified]. Damn! Who else then? Only Pedro left. But he was also needed elsewhere.

Carno considered his choices. Which exploration can be cancelled? He couldn’t think of any. Abort project [classified] was out of the question. The more he thought of it, the more impossible it seemed. He looked once more thru the report from the principal of the Royal Navy Academy. Maybe there was someone else he hadn’t thought of? No, there was now one that would be capable of leading the Home fleet.…. Suddenly he saw a name he didn’t recognize, Van Illa. Van Illa seemed to barely have past the tests. Mediocre at best. Still, Van Illa seemed to have some skill in aiming a gun. Not much, but better than average. However, according to the principal, Van Illas grade in aiming could be the result of the combination of Van Illas drinking habits and the rough sea the day the test took place, as those factors sort of “cancelled each other out” - Van Illa aiming in one direction and the waves rocking the boat in the other direction...... Nevertheless, at least Van Illa was better then no one.

I don’t really have a choice, Carno thought for himself. Exploration and project [classified] had highest priority. As much at it hurt him, he had to name Van Illa admiral of the Home fleet.

*”Illa” in Swedish can be translated to something like bad or (to) hurt.
** Renamed from "Amjala", stats 2/3/2
*** I will start with Carno, the Inventor

Trocadero Bushman's bio
troca033.jpg

Trocadero is a bastardbrother to Joohoo Bushman, no one knows who is the father to him,
when Joohoo entered the throne, he didn't know where to place Trocadero in his court.
So he sent Trocadero to the army as a pre-teenager so that he would learn everything about
warfare. Trocadero was learned his skills of war to the cost of his normal life. The teachers
were strict to the point they didn't like to teach a bastard. Because of that, Trocadero
became bitter with his life and he was jealous at Joohoo. Though he was a loyal servant to
the kingdom because he thought he would be rewarded some day of his achievements. He knew he
was a good generals and become arrogant and a bastard in other ways :D

I choose Joohoo Bushman as my first king.

The Ascension of General Turenne No2: An Ottoman Empire Chronicle

It was a stormy night. Lightning flashed through the sky above the green grassland. In the distance a tree was hit, fire spreading throughout a forest. Through the violence of the storm, another sound could be heard. It were the screams of a woman...

The screams stopped. A baby started crying. A proud father looked upon his son, took him up in his arms and uttered his name: "Turenne No2". The nursemaid gave him a strange look: "If you don't mind me asking, my lord, could you not think of a better name for your child?". General Maximus looked upon the nursemaid with contempt. She would pay for her insolence. Now however, his wife looked upon him with a questioning look as well. He would answer. Clearing his throat, he said: "Well, the leader-creating-God gave me this name for my child.. I would've wished it otherwise myself, but this 'Dr. Bob' apparently has little imagination."

General Maximus was a strict man. He believed physical strength was the most important attribute for a man, with intelligence and tactical sense coming on the second place. However, being a general, his son still got the best possible education in war tactics that could be had in the Ottoman Empire. After watching his father brutalize soldiers, flogging them to death constantly, young Turenne No2 vowed he would be good to his soldiers whenever his time to lead would come.

Years passed. Turenne grew up. When he reached the age of 30, his talent had made him a far better general than his father ever was. He devised new tactics to be used with the new gunpowder weapons that came from the east. His manoeuver ability was above average, as was his capability to lead cavalry shock charges. Even in sieges he usually took the fort months before other generals. His father, on the other hand, had reached the age of 70 and was losing his capability to brutalize his soldiers, and with that (sadly) his capability to lead....

It was 1492. General Maximus lead an army against the enemies of the Ottoman Empire. His son Turenne No2 accompanied him as always. On the day of the battle, they both surveyed their troops, as Maximus suddenly fell from his horse. Turenne knew enough of medical science to determine his father had had a heart attack. He survived, yet was in no condition to lead the army. With his last strength, standing up straight, General Maximus said to his son: "You are the general now."

Grieving for his father, yet knowing it had to be this way, Turenne went over the battle plan. Seeing his father's faults, who always thrusted too much on brute force and numbers, he corrected them. Then, he did something his father had never done before; he lead his horse through the ranks of his men to inspect them and speak courage to them.

Morale rose to new heights. Filled with courage and love for their new general, the Ottoman troops followed their orders with new determination. The enemy, after taking one look at the well-formed battle ranks, fled in terror. And so the greatest victory in all of Ottoman history was achieved, without one single man lost.

Turenne No2 went back to Constantinople, where the Others in charge praised him and made his promotion official. Looking upon the beautiful scaled creature that was his Sultan, Turenne couldn't understand the contempt his father had always felt towards the creatures. Turenne knew he would gladly serve the Empire and his Sultan for the rest of his live. And so, he left the palace, walking straight with his sword in hand, determined to bring defeat to the Empire's enemies.

I would like to start with Caelin Elessedil (9-9-9) as monarch.

For all interested, the leaders have all been put into the save-game, I can add in the prize on monday, so you still have time to change your leader name if you are unhappy with it. ;) of course if you can think of nothing better... *shakes fist at ozzeh*

hey Bal do you want me to put in the first monarchs of people as well?

Sure! :) Make sure you give them a death date of 1819. You only need to change the actual monarch, not the monarchtable thing.

Do you think it would be a good idea for everyone to post their monarch descriptions here, helps for me and means others can check which king the enemy has at the moment.
