"Dunk the Lunk, thick as a Castle wall"

Still, I like the idea of Hedge Knights maybe turning up and being hired (versus getting injured in tourneys). Perhaps some event opportunities right then and there for such men at arms.

And maybe having a very loyal knight that is really good will be taken into account when plotting rebellions and factions

Hope the knight system is not just a title we can give to anyone, but a more deep system with page and squire education for noble children.
I agree, random lowborn courtiers with high combat ability didn't just become knights out of no where

Actually looking at current system and
how few "knights" in an army currently, I think the Term "captains" or "officers" would work as well. As leaders of segments of troops under the overall commander, their skill as individuals fighters would be high, but more importantly they should be the ones inspiring the Frontlines, and if we used poweress as Mark as Frontline leaders, than I be willing to just use their given kills as numbers they help their soldiers kill... Such a knight character getting hundreds "kills" would be acceptable. It would be far simpler than trying organized your troops in sub units without getting regiment feel that just doesn't fit warfare in this era.
