While I understand unlanded courtiers not gaining the trait, I think at least landed knights should gain it. I've noticed that it procs as soon as a character's army moves one province, but it is a little frustrating that it doesn't also proc for knights. It means that I've been switching out commanders for the first couple of months of a great holy war just to get all my knights/heirs to get the trait.
