Good day everyone, we have just released Update 1.8, alongside Pivot of Empire today! As mentioned in the Changelog we have a list of Known issues occurring in the release version of 1.8 "Masala Chai" listed below for your convenience.

NEW Post Release 1.8
Some players are experiencing a crash to desktop on the game launch, related to users with utf-8 characters in their account name and/or path where the game try to write - we are currently investigating this issue. In the meantime, try to launch Steam in Administrator Mode as a temporary workaround.

Fixed with: 1.8.3., 1.8.4

Known issues:
  1. All saves of a previous version of the game will not work and may crash due to the changes implemented in game.
  2. Due to updated shaders, the game may load a bit longer the first time loading the game.
  3. Monterey 12 macOS occasionally freezes after country selection on medium/high settings.
  4. When playing on Ironman mode - it is recommended to avoid using the “Save to cloud” option, as the save operation might silently fail if cloud storage is close to full, resulting in loss of progress.
  5. When unlocking special production methods (PMs) via certain principles (e.g., transportation III or food standardization), locked PMs may incorrectly display default PMs instead of the special ones.
  6. We currently have an issue where custom keybindings may not save correctly when the game is restarted. Additionally, there is currently no option to reset keybindings to their default settings. We understand that this can be frustrating, and we’re actively working on a fix for future updates.
  7. In Polish localization, characters in event options may incorrectly appear as "subject countries" (Państwo Poddańcze) instead of their actual roles. This issue may affect clarity in some events.
  8. If you are playing on Linux, there might be an UI issue when changing screen resolutions.
  9. We are working on the issue where soldiers in battle could become invulnerable, preventing combat progression. This issue occurred only in specific scenarios.
  10. Currently the stall chance for enacting laws does not account for contributions from radicalized movements, potentially leading to higher actual stall chances than shown. A fix is on the way!
  11. If you are playing on macOS, changing the resolution to a lower setting and switching from fullscreen to windowed mode may cause the button click fields to misalign.
  12. Sometimes the AI may create numerous tiny armies instead of organizing them into well-structured formations.
  13. You may notice exaggerated wind effects on shorter trees; this has been adjusted for the following update.
  14. An issue where Power Blocks could invite Revolution nations is also addressed and will roll out soon.
  15. You may encounter an issue where foreign-owned buildings do not transfer reinvestment funds properly; a fix is already in development.
  16. Currently there are some error messages, we are aware of the issue and actively working on it.
  17. A brief UI flicker at the start of the game just before the main menu appears.
  18. Investment pools can get blocked in states with low infrastructure, even if other states have sufficient resources. We are aware of this issue and working on it.
  19. Progress bar tooltips may be unclear in Sikh Sovereignty Journal Entry, with green numbers indicating negative effects and red numbers indicating positive ones.
  20. Unstable Raj Journal Entry will have further design improvements.
  21. When hovering over a law to change it or aborting a law change that affects many movements, tooltips and pop-ups may overflow beyond the screen limits.
  22. Colonization speed previously included provinces in impassable land, affecting progress calculations. This issue is in progress.
  23. An issue where market access was not properly refreshed after state annexation.
  24. Historical characters don't have priority in the recruitment selection.
  25. There is an issue recurring where ports fail to hire laborers despite significant unemployment in the state, we are on it.
  26. You may encounter an issue where port attachments, such as Fishing Wharfs or Shipyards, fail to appear as intended in certain locations (e.g., Quebec, Balasore, and Bandar Lengeh). We are aware of the problem and working on a fix.
  27. Secessions with anarchists may get stuck at high progress, preventing resolution or downsizing your army. We're investigating and will update soon.
  28. In some cases, countries can enter a political deadlock where all interest groups are radicalized, preventing progress or resolution. This issue has been observed in Sweden and Norway during extended gameplay. We're investigating ways to improve AI handling of these situations.
  29. MacOS harvest condition map mode will black out and freeze the game.
  30. Abdicating the throne during revolution switches rulers of each nation.
  31. Conscripts can be recruited with no supply.
  32. Error related to political_movements.
  33. Having Win11 24H2 can cause the game to freeze your PC.

We are heavily invested in player feedback and look through as much as we humanly can, however people will encounter things we did not so please feel free to use the bug reporting.

Thank you to everyone who provides feedback and bug reports, they are really appreciated!

How to Rollback your Game

If you are on an older save you may want to continue an the save, you can roll back to a previous version of the game e.g. 1.7.7 via following the steps below!

1. Right click the game in Steam

how to 1.png

2. Go to Properties and select the tab called "BETAS"
how to 2.png

3. Pick the version you want to play and close.
4. Allow the game to update
5. Make sure, before you load any save, that the version number in the game is the one you want.
6. If the previous step fails, exit the game, right click -> properties -> local files -> Verify integrity of game files and wait for all files to be verified before going back to step 5.

Note: You can freely swap between the latest version and previous versions this way. By selecting "NONE - opt out of all beta programs" you go to the latest released version.

running steam as an administrator(or running victoria3.exe as an administrator) doesn't work for me(although it may work for someone). I hope you will not underestimate this issue by thinking it is just an administrator right problem.

I'm not sure, but it seems like a crash occurs if the Windows user account name is not in English. Actually I have confirmed that it works fine for accounts with English names (folder paths are all in English)

Please post this information in the relevant bug thread too. I will also, but I can't confirm the information myself.

Will post a bug report when I'm able to (tried a few times, forum freezes for me) but the COMPANY_INITIAL_LEVELS define is borked if you change it to be higher than 5 - when I did that (upped it to 15) to make companies start bigger in my game it started completely ignoring private ownership and the predicted headquaters were jumping all over France despite me building only in one state.

Are you attaching a save? If so, create the report without a save first, then edit your post to include the save file attachment. I find that editing in large attachments seems to perform better than trying to upload them in the initial post.

Non-primary cultures are shown as primary[Baltic governate ; 1..8.2 on startup]
Hm, Baltic Governate is a funny case, as the defined primary cultures are different from the starting primary cultures. I guess this list pulls from the defined ones, not the current ones. I expect other countries that add or remove primary cultures have the same issue. I suggest making a regular bug report on the issue.
