Korea is a Catholic country in my game, when did that happen?

There's lots of Catholics in Korea. Although I'm not certain if they are in the majority they are certainly a very large minority (say a wild guess of 25%?). Don't know why or when it happened though. Funny old world isn't it?

Nearly 50% of Korea's population is catolic in real life. I think it was the work of portugese, spanish and perhaps french missionars. They also had a lot of success in china and japan, but later chrisian religion was forbidden in these two countries. But in Korea christian religion did very well...

Do you have any other countries with weird state religions?

I think you can create a lot weird situations... Look at Surinam and Guyana in South Africa in real life - they have large Hindu minorities because of migration...

The growth of Christianity in Korea is a very recent development (20th century, mostly after WWII). According to the official Catholic church in Korea (I think it is atleast but since I don't know Korean I could be waay off) on this site http://www.cbck.or.kr/eng/ccik/history_03.htm#2, there were about 10.000 Catholics in Korea in 1801 and they grew to about 20.000 in 1866. The first protestant missionaries came there only in 1884. I have no clue as to how the Catholic POPs should be distributed but they should number no more than 15.000 in 1836.

The traditional faith of Korea is Buddhist by the way so the remaining POPs should be just that.

Just loaded up Korea to check and Korea doesn't have any Catholic POPs during this time so it's kind of weird (in the game) that they managed to go almost historical despite of this. Way to go Korea.

Christianity is North Korea is none existant, but I think thats to do with communism. In South Korea I know its one of the major religions, which is strange as it is almost one of the only countries in East Asia that it has.

Christianity did quite well in Japan to start with, but they were reincorporated or exterminated after foreigners were expelled from Japan.

China has tens of millions of christians, but in a country of more than one billion they form a very small fraction and are out numbered by even its muslim contingent.

Im Korean, and I can tell you that Christians are everywhere. You cannot drive around any part of South Korea without noticing thousands of "light crosses" that people put up over buildings and their houses.

Its a strange point in history today becuase it seems to me that Europe is far less Christian now then Africa, Asia and the Americas where they peddled their god for centuries.

North Korea is communist, but not entirely athiest - the government has created a pseudo-traditional mythology where their communist leaders are gods and miracals happen because of them.

Catholic missionaries came to Korea in 1777, but in 1839 three French missionaries were killed due to a rebellion in the local population against the Western intruders. The same year the government in Seoul introduced closed-door policy. Catholicism was forbidden until at least 1895 when the Japanese conquered the Korean peninsula. It`s therefore insane if 25% of the population in Korea are Christian!

I understand that it`s difficult for Paradox to ensure that all research they receive are of high quality, but please change this now. And also change the name of the Norwegian regions, please...

Not possible. At least, it wasn't in HoI or EU II. The map is 'set', you see.

How does religion work in the game, anyway? How does religion change amongst POPs, if at all?

1881: Building Mosques in Sweden

In the 1881 scenario, some 6% of the Swedish population is Arabic - Sunni. I suspect this might be ahistorical ... but just in case, how do I add them to the officially recognized cultures (along with the Swedes, Norwegians and Finns)?:)

Yes it is insane, as it is a wild understatment to say 25%:

Religions:
Christianity 49%,
Buddhism 47%,
Confucianism 3%,
pervasive folk religion (shamanism), Chondogyo (Religion of the Heavenly Way), and other 1%

Yeah, come to my town (Inchon). Everyones a Christian.
The Buddhists are fastly becoming the minority.

If I had to give a precentage of Christians in the population, I would put it at 55%.

And they are DEVOUT. Not like American Christians who just wear necklaces with crosses and call it a day... Koreans LOOOVVVEEE going to church and there are more churches then LGs, AM/PM and 711 here.

The problem is that the growth of Christianity in Korea is something that happens outside of the Victoria timespan and could perhaps be given an event for the endgame of HOI. Being a devout Christian myself it is something I praise God for but it is pretty much outside of the Vic timespan except for the beginnings of the Catholic church and the first protestant missionaries as flavour events.

hehe... maybe someday there will be a "Reverand Sun Myung Moon" event
