After some google searching it appears there were already 2 rounds of layoffs in 2023 this is the 3rd round. No word on how many are left.
You can see on their instagram they've posted a variety of "whole team" pictures. There was one taken end of 2022 with the combined Argentine & Uruguay team and the count is below 100. I'm sure some people didn't show up but I doubt the entire company had more than 250 people total, and with such big layoffs, it's likely down below 100 for the entire group now.

It was 160 employees in 2022. The layoffs the news mentions is about Embracer as whole, this is the third round of layoffs this year they do on their own company structure. They cut down the workforce at Black Forest Games and Eidos in january.

" The layoff at Nimble Giant is likely connected to the ongoing restructuring program at Embracer Group. Since the Swiss group started the restructuring in June 2023, over a thousand employees have been laid off from Embracer-owned studios. Studios like Volition and Free Radical Designs were shuttered. Embracer was forced to restructure its operations after a $2 billion Saudi funding deal fell through in early 2023. "

They have options like using another developer.
While true, this is not in keeping with the strategic direction for Paradox that Fredrik, Paradox CEO, has announced… well, championed since returning to the CEO position after an all too brief departure.

maybe I did read that right after all... :(
Can we please get any news about the future of the game?
It's in the title of this Dev Diary. It's a hint.

"All Good Things..." is the series finale [...]. The title is derived from the expression "All good things must come to an end", a phrase used by the character Q during the episode itself.

"Bad news for Star Trek Infinite Developer Nimble Giant Entertainment as Embracer group lays off 30 employees."

Not sure how precisely the relation between Paradox and Embracer was regarding Star Trek Infinite (Paradox was just a publisher?), but Nimble Giant Entertainment (devs of the Star Trek Infinite) lost many workers recently. Some of them tweeted that they worked on Infinite (4:47 in the above video).
